SOUTHERN WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER
CHAMPSHIP SHOW 20TH JULY 2024

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge this well-run friendly show.
Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs for me to judge.  There are quality westies in the UK even if our numbers have declined.

Fronts need to be watched, some boarding on a ‘terrier’ front which for a westie is not correct, a westie should have a return of upper arm, with the front legs slightly under the body, giving a chest, not as much as the Scottie but more than the Cairn.  Try to remember to walk you dog on the mats, it does help with movement.  One more point, watch your use of products!

Inverglen November Knight,  A super young dog, very true to type, just needs a little more time.  Beautiful head and expression, correct scissor bite, well set shoulders, cobby body with correct rib, excellent rear angulation, and tail on top.  Pushed hard for top honors, just not as finished as main winners.

2nd Mrs B Vysniauskiene
Harvey Baltoji Aurora At Cherryleague,  Pleasing head, scissor bite, would prefer them larger, harsh white jacket, moved well for handler

Krisma Fine Fettle,.  Super male, just what I was looking for. One you really need to get your hands on.  Nothing is exaggerated.  Excellent head and expression, bite good.  Enough neck into lovely well-placed shoulders, good return of upper arm gives the correct fore chest.
Super crisp hard white jacket.  Good rear angulation, which he used on the move.  Full of himself! As a westie should be!+ Happy to award him the CC.

I love this dog, but in the challenge, I just preferred the outline of the CC winner.
Beautiful head and expression, dark eye, neat ears.  Clean well-set shoulders into a good top line, strong loin, well set tail, with excellent rear angulation, moved with drive and purpose. RCC

2nd Mrs K, Ms S Van Der Veen
Int/Ned/Lux CH, White Villan Lucky Luck.
Another boy I could have taken home. Same comments as 1st place, just not as good coat at the moment.   Any other class and I could have forgiven him lacking coat, but not in open.

LB 5 (3)
1st Mrs D Britten, Krisma Winter Sun, litter sister to the dog CC.  Another lovely bitch, strong head, scissor bite, neck into clean well-set shoulders.  Kept her top line on the move, well set tail and excellent movement.  Set off in a hard, white coat.

2nd Ms C Crozier, Dalskairth Glamis Girl.  This is a bitch you need to get your hands on.  Nothing is overdone, a cobby honest bitch.  Excellent head, correct front, shoulder well set, into a nice neck, kept her top line on the move. Moved well for her handler.

OPEN BITCH, what a class of top-notch bitches.

A couple of points, video’s from outside the ring do not always see what the judge sees standing in the middle of the ring.  Moving your bitch at a pace it is not used to can affect balance and movement, as can not using the mats.  We can stack a westie into any shape we want, but they have to move correctly.

1st Mrs M Kanasova, Poppy Cake Sunshine Celebration WW21EW21Interra21
A total delight to judge.  Strong bone, but feminine, beautiful head and expression, clean shoulders with correct upper arm giving her a chest.  Lovely clean well set should, level top line, tail on top with plenty behind the tail.  Wonderful reach and drive.  Delighted to award CC & BOB

2nd Mrs M Noyce, CH Maxual Vanilla Ice Cream
I love this bitch, unfortunate to meet the CC winner. All the above comments apply, but I just thought the CC winner moved with more animation today. RCC & RBIS
