WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE RICHMOND 17

My thanks go to Richmond Dog Show Society for inviting me to judge our breed and also to those exhibitors for entering their dogs.
As entries diminish there is always the fear that quality will also reduce. On the day I did find some areas of concern, particularly small heads and poor toplines but overall the quality was good and I was very pleased with the main winners. A few lost out today on reluctance to move or use their tails. It was good to see all exhibits on the day presented in clean condition.

Minor Puppy Dog (2, 0)

1st Miss Gillott & Mrs Carlins – Lizandycris Paco Rooban. Strongly built 8 month old puppy with good head and mouth. Moved out well and showed his sound movement to best effect. Promising.

2nd Mrs Minetts – Duskhunter Ruff Diamond. Another promising boy. Soundly constructed although longer cast than 1. Well put down and moved out well.

Junior Dog (1, 0)

1st Mrs Brittens – Krisma jump Start. A young dog with boundless energy levels and most definitely a mind of his own. A nicely balanced, well angulated dog with a well sized head, large teeth, clean shoulders laying back into a level topline. Well set tail always carried on top. Quite unsettled in the class but did stand alone. He settled in the challenge and won the Res CC while pushing hard for the CC.

Post Graduate Dog (4, 1)

1st Mrs Squires – The Dashing Devils Macho Man. A well balanced dog in good coat. Clean shoulders. Moved out well with good reach and drive. Would prefer to have found a larger head. Won this class by virtue of his movement.

2nd Miss Dales – Lynnsto Special Agent. A well muscled boy put down to perfection with the best of coats. Well angulated front and rear, strongest of heads, dark eyes, good mouth. Sadly failed to lift his tail and moved with reluctance on the day. This cost him the class.

Limit Dog (4, 1)

1st Miss Gales – Bocans Bolt to Bellevue. A dog I have judged and liked in the past. I have always felt that this boy is very well built and has super movement but has not had as much success as he may have achieved due to his shortly trimmed coat. On the day he was put down to better effect and fully deserved his second CC by virtue of his soundness, construction and the manner in which he covered the ground.

2nd Mrs Purchons – Lindenka I`m Dexter. A pleasing young dog with the strongest of heads. Well placed shoulders and well angulated rear end, good tailset but sadly today he did not use this to best effect when on the move.

Open Dog (1, 0)

1st Miss Gillott & Mrs Carlins – Lizandycris Line Me Up. Up to size male, well muscled and trimmed as I like to see them. Strong head, good tailset. Loses balance due to shoulder placement and length of loin. Moved out well.

Minor Puppy Bitch (6, 1)

1st Mrs Minetts – Duskhunter Diamond Lil. I liked this girl a lot. Very well balanced young bitch. strong head but with feminine expression and neat ears, good scissor bite, well angulated frame. Well muscled for one so young. Very good movement. Pleased to award her Best Puppy.

2nd Mr & Mrs Gaydons – The Dashing Devils Popcorn at Gilbri. Of different type to 1 but of undoubted quality nonetheless. Cobby and well angulated, strong head although earset could be better. Moved with confidence.

Puppy Bitch (4, 0)

1st Miss Dales – Lynnsto Ryme & Reason. Another from this kennel put down to perfection. Pretty bitch, well balanced, well developed head with dark eyes, well set ears and a good scissor bite, Showed sound construction when asked to move.

2nd Mrs Fryers – Hopecharm Bit of Fruitcake. Freestanding bitch exhibiting similar attributes to 1although slightly longer cast. Keen terrier expression, good presentation, moved well. Strong rear end, topline lost when stood.

Junior Bitch (0)

Post Graduate Bitch (3, 0)

1st Miss Dales – Lynnsto Evelyn All. This bitch caught my eye upon entering the ring and that first impression lasted right through to the end of my judging. The most feminine of bitches presented in superb condition. So well balanced and a joy to go over. The cleanest of shoulders running into a short back ending with a well set tail carried firmly on top. Her correctly angulated front and rear end could easily be seen as she moved around the ring with deliberate purpose. Very happy to award this girl her first CC then Best of Breed. One I would love to take home.

2nd Miss Gillott & Mrs Carlins – Lizandycris Maggie May. A quality bitch and certainly one I have admired previously from ringside. Strong head and good shoulders although not quite the balance of 1. Sadly she was one of a few that failed to use their tails on the day.

Limit Bitch (3, 0)

1st Mrs Fryers – Hopecharm Christmas Rose. An alert, freestanding bitch put down in good condition with the whitest of coats. Strong head, well angulated rear end, tail on top, moved out well.

2nd Mrs Minetts – Matheron Connex Again With Duskhunter. Nice cobby bitch with the harshest of coats. A head to match 1. Better topline than 1 and pushed hard for first place but lost out due to being unsettled on the move.

Open Bitch (5 entries) 2 absent

1st Mr & Mrs Fox`s – Hillsted Sweet Mystery Sh. Ch. Well balanced feminine bitch with the cleanest of shoulders. Straight front, good rear angulation, harsh coat, moved out well with tail on top. Unlucky to come up against todays CC winner but pleased to award her the Res CC.

2nd Mrs Squires – Ch The Dashing Devils La Diva. One I have judged before and placed first in her class. A cobby bitch with good balance. Head is smaller than I would like but she has many other positive attributes which have carried her through to her title. Today for me she was slightly overweight, moved well for her handler.
