WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE MIDLAND COUNTIES 17
I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging the breed at Midland Counties. I would like to thank my stewards Bill and Trish Gray who were so efficient, helpful and pleasant on the day.
I am aware that you can’t make everyone happy but I thought that the placings were taken in good spirit. Sometimes a lot of doom and gloom is spoken about the breed in the UK but I thought I had some very good dogs under me, and there were a number of very nice youngsters coming up the ranks. It’s easy to think that grass is greener on the other side but we still have to work at keeping the UK as the true home of the Westie. Unfortunately, the atmosphere and noise of the hall did have an adverse effect on some and I felt for the handlers in a difficult situation.
I was aware that it is difficult to maintain a type in the line ups, partly due to numbers and also diversity of breeding.
PD 2, 1 abs
1, Milner’s Juanne Rufus the Ruffian. Strongly built and masculine with plenty of bone. Broad skull, excellent bite. Good texture of coat but could be in better order. A little resistance in the tail. He was a little unsettled by the surroundings but would probably benefit from more reassurance from his handler. It would have also helped if he hadn’t been the only dog in the class.
JD
1, Owen’s Frisbeck Guitarman. A beautiful headed dog with broad skull, well placed ears and good bite. Shoulders OK but not helped by trimming that made him look as though he had a slight roach over the back. Lacks some power behind on the move that also affects his front movement
PGD 4, 1 abs
1. Jennings’ Comdale That’s Andy. I thought this boy had matured a lot since I had last seen him in the ring. He has shortened up and held himself very well. Great Westie coat, hard, straight and sparkling white. Strong, masculine head with excellent bite, well laid shoulder, level topline, tail right on top and well angulated hindquarters. I liked his balance as I went over him and he has good bone and substance. He is a free mover but today wasn’t enthusiastic in the challenge.
2. Dale’s Lynnsto Special Agent. Another quality dog, with pleasing head, good shoulder and balance, and well angulated. True in movement but just lacked a little confidence. Nevertheless with time I am sure he will do well.
3. McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Local Laddie
LD 4, 1abs
1. Purchon’s Lindenka I’m Dexter. A very correct dog to go over. Well proportioned head, strong muzzle, straight front, excellent clean shoulders, tail set bang on top and well angulated behind. Well balanced. Moved true
2. Thomson’s Fernsunrise Fairplay to Ashgate. A very strong masculine dog, Broad skull but falling away a little under the eyes. Good reach of neck, short back and strong quarters. Very animated on the move, responding very well to his handler
3. Windram’s Louie Conquistador
OD 7, 2abs
1. Carlin and Gillott’s Lizandycris Line Me Up. This boy was on form today, full of his own importance. They say every dog has his day and he was determined to have his. A strong dog with broad head and muzzle, straight front, good reach of neck and well placed shoulders running into short back. Tail well held. Well muscled hindquarters, he strode round the ring with ease and panache. I have never seen him so animated before. Very happy to award him the DCC
2. Lilley and Milling’s Ch Lilmill Nosey Parker. A dog I have always admired and is very correct in his make and shape. Excellent head and bite, straight front, good neck and shoulders, level topline, strong hindquarters, You cannot but notice his very short straight tail held right on top. He is a good mover, free and with drive. He was unfortunate to be out performed by 1 today. RDCC
3. Noyce’s Ch Armadales Son of a Gun at Maxula
MPB 6, 0abs
1. Griffiths’ Karamynd Guilded Lily. Such a charming young puppy. Very feminine and so eyecatching. Delightful head and expression, short back, well angulated and with a super temperament. Moved well and with confidence. Will watch her progress.
2. Berry’s Hillcloud Ripple. A happy youngster with good shoulders and bone. Not the head of 1. Well angulated hindquarters and moved well.
3. Dale’s Lynnsto Tickled Pink
PB 8, 0abs
1. Gaydon’s The Dashing Devil’s Popcorn at Gilbri. This girl doesn’t put a foot wrong. Feminine head with that expression that tells you she is a real terrier. Well placed shouders, very short in the back and tail bang on top. Strong hindquarters that she uses to advantage on the move. She responds so well to her handler, a real showgirl. BP
2. Berry’s Ashgate Naughty but Nice. One I had not seen before and I was very taken with her. She is very well constructed and everything about her shouts confidence. Pleasing head, excellent white straight coat, short backed, strong quarters. Moved very freely.
3. Lilley and Milling’s Lilmill Rize and Shine
JB 7, abs 4
1. Griffiths’ Karamynd May Queen. This bitch has a great outline and balance. Head very well made but still immature, good reach of neck and excellent shoulders, short coupled, level topline, tail well placed. Shown in beautiful coat and condition. She appears a little stubborn on the move, as though she has done it all before and would like to make her own decisions.
2. Noyce’s Forever Friends de New Gryffindor at Maxula. Very nice type, pleasing head, good in shoulder, mature body and short back. Could move more freely.
3. Bradbury’s Petalam Season
PGB 12, abs 6
1. Dale’s Lynnsto Evelyn All. A classy bitch with a super white coat. Very good outline, clean shoulders, short back and well angulated hindquarters, short tail bang on top, head OK. Moved very well
2. Strand and Hands’ Crinan Carousel. A quality bitch to go over and very typical. Correct westie head with good proportions, strong body and hindquarters, tail bang on top. She moves true but does not choose to give as much of herself as she could
3. McLoughlin’s LeyHey Luck be a Lady
LB 7, abs 2
1. Fryer’s Hopecharm Christmas Rose. Mature girl, with generally good construction. Strong head, deep body, pleasing outline and tail very well set and held, good hindquarters with plenty of muscle. Beautiful ultra white coat and well presented, without any exaggeration. Moved soundly.
2. Purchon’s Lindenka Apple Crumble. Good to go over with pleasing head, cleanest of shoulders and level topline. Tail was well held. Moved well. In this class, I felt she still had some maturing to do, to give her more substance.
3. McLoughlin’s Llovall Look Here LeyHey
OB 4, 1 abs
1. Burns’ Ch Burneze Our Marnie. Eyecatching in the class, freestanding and super white coat. Strong head with good proportions, good layback of shoulder, level topline, tail set bang on top. Well angulated and muscled hindquarters. Shown in super condition and moves so freely and is at one with her handler. Plenty of attitude! CC, BOB. Pleased to see her take G3
2. Fox’s Ch Hillsted Sweet Mystery. A bitch I have admired in the ring during the year and she didn’t disappoint today. She is a strong girl with much about her that shouts typical Westie. Great head, good stop and broad muzzle, good body and bone, well angulated. Very strong behind on the move. She gives the impression that she wants to call all the shots and her handler should do as she is told. RCC
3. Davison’s Lynnsto That’ll Do Nicely at Braxquin.
