WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE MIDLAND COUNTIES 11

West Highland White Terriers

Most of the Westies seemed disinterested in what they were being asked to do. There was very little use of ears & very little tail movement. Perhaps there would be more animation if the exhibitor talked to their exhibit rather than tempting it with titbits. The skirts on a lot of the exhibits were far too full & resembled those of an Am Cocker, spoilt the smooth sides of the dog on the move & far too low to the ground & parallel to the ground rather than following the line of the body of the dog. As you move from the withers to the back of the dog the back should widen because of the need for muscles to propel the dog – this was missing in some of the exhibits.

Movement does not have to be swift; it has to have drive from the muscular rearquarters. Some were moved so fast that their feet hardly touched the ground.

Most bites were correct but the size of the teeth needs to be watched.

MPD (1)

1 Corri’s Inverglen Lord Of The Manor, strong head, dark eye, good stop, correct bite, level topline, good turn of stifle, moved well. Coat still developing.

PD (2)

1 Storey’s Nossimp Written In The Stars, good head, dark eye, well placed ears, good stop, scissor bite, good sized teeth, good layback of shoulder, elbows well in, level back, good turn of stifle & when moved properly did so with drive. BP;

2 Ladham & Rudd’s Juraspirit Caimbeul, pleasant expression. Not as short coupled as 1 & needs to tighten up in shoulder & stifle.

JD (1)

1 Fox’s Hillsted Same Again, much has already been written about this young dog. A pleasure to go over, very strong head, slight dome, well placed ears, dark eyes, good sized teeth forming a scissor bite. Lovely layback of shoulder & elbows well in, level back, short coupled, hindquarters wide & muscular across the top, good turn of stifle, moved with drive. CC.

PGD (5)

1 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Arlo, strong in head, good ear placement, dark eye, scissor bite, good layback of shoulder, level back, moved with drive;

2 West’s Tomlyndon Spoilsport, not quite as muscular behind as 1, otherwise same attributes;

3 Anthony’s Rosamie Dream On with Charmedautum.

LD (8)

1 Griffiths’ Karamynd Play It Again, lovely compact dog, very strong head, dark eye, small well placed ears, distinct stop, scissor bite made with big strong teeth, good shoulder placement, level back, short coupled, good turn of stifle, moved with drive, harshest of white coats & presentation excellent as is becoming expected from this kennel. In the challenge seemed to lose interest. RCC;

2 Tomlyndon Spoilt Rotten, lost out to 1 on movement;

3 Carlin & Gillott’s Lizandycris Out To Play.

OD (5)

1 Edmondson’s Ch Pepabby Prank, strong head, distinct stop, good ear & eye placement, good shoulders, level back. Movement not as good as usual but then it is coming towards the end of the year & this dog has done a lot of travelling;

2 Purchon’s Lindenka Sullivan, good specimen of the breed but preferred use of ears of 1;

3 Corri’s Inverglen Banjo.

MPB (6)

1 Atkins’ Lizandycris Centre Page & 2 Berry’s Carthonastar Fleur by Ashgate, both had harsh white coats, correct bite, dark eyes, well placed shoulders, good turn of stifle. Just preferred movement of 1;

3 Harper’s Westigo Sheeza Delight.

PB (6)

Strong class of puppies. First 3 could change places many times.

1 Purchon’s Starstruck at Lindenka, lovely head, good ear placement, dark eyes, good stop, scissor bite, good reach of neck, well placed shoulders, level back, good turn of stifle, harsh white coat & well presented as you expect from this kennel;

2 Thomson’s Hillcloud Athena at Ashgate, same attributes as 1. Just preferred overall balance of 1;

3 Fox’s Comdale Miss January at Hillsted.

JB (3)

1 Thomson’s Ashgate Moonsie, good head, well placed ears & dark eye, correct bite, good shoulder placement, elbows well in, level back, good turn of stifle, moved well;

2 Sweetzer’s Bellevue Wild At Heart, not as strong in head as 1 but had similar attributes;

3 Hunt’s Kellethrigg Serenade.

PGB (11)

1 Strand’s Westlake Pearly Lady & 2 Griffiths’ Krisma Asking For Trouble at Karamynd,

2 lovely bitches which met the Standard, well placed ears, dark eyes, distinct stop, scissor bite formed with large white teeth, good shoulder placement, level back, short coupled, good turn of stifle. Just preferred steadier movement of 1;

3 Hunt’s Kellethrigg Snowflake Lass.

LB (4)

1 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Bramble, good bitch, strong head, good reach of neck, shoulders sloping backward, level back, good tail carriage, good turn of stifle;

2 Corri’s Inverglen Sophie, good ear placement, dark eye, distinct stop, scissor bite, deep chest, level back. Preferred movement of 1;

3 Carlin & Gillott’s Lizandycris Aint She Grand.

OB (3)

Three very smart bitches matching the Standard in most departments.

1 Coley’s Karamynd On Cue for Kingsview, CC & BOB & 2 Smith’s Faymar Fine Romance, RCC. Both had dark eyes, small erect ears well placed, scissor bite, good reach of neck, shoulders sloping backwards & lying close to chest wall, elbows well in, level back, short coupled. 1 had slightly muscular rearend. Both moved well;

3 Steemson’s Bocans Playing With Fire.
