WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE MIDLAND COUNTIES 10

West Highland White Terriers

My main criticisms were: I saw some really badly stained whiskers & grubby looking teeth, too many overlong, crooked nails & poor feet. There was a distinct lack of strength of bone in the skull of many exhibits, resulting in insufficient stop & a foreign expression. I saw many over wide & over powerful looking fronts in otherwise quality exhibits, Many of these, mainly bitches, were just too big all round. Presentation overall was great, with just a few not making any effort & they had to pay the penalty. Please, you expert trimmers, as well as an abundance of furnishings, do leave a little more coat down the back. On a happier note, movement & temperaments & sportsmanship were great.

MPD (5,1a)

1 Carling & Gillot’s Lizandychris Devlin Disgise, a well grown puppy at just 6 months, good coat. Ears not his fortune at the moment. Free mover, sound & confident on the move;

2 Jenning’s Comdale Smooth Operator, good head, neck & shoulders, dark eye, nice outline, moved well when he settled, coat still a bit woolly;

3 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Arlow.

PD (3)

1 West’s Tomlyndon Spoilt Rotten, good hard coat & plenty of it except where needed – on his muzzle, mature body for age, level topline, good quarters, mustn’t get heavier especially around shoulders, a confident & lively showman;

2 West’s Tomlyndon Spoil Sport, suffered a stomach upset during the show which rather spoiled his chances but he came back to finish 2nd. Nice head, good level topline, straight front, black points, nice neckline & scores in shoulder placement. Will have a better day,

3 Burns’ Burns Dizzee Rascal.

JD (6,1)

1 Taylor’s Flassendale Fairlie, good head, correct mouth with strength of muzzle, good stop & well set dark eye, good in shoulder with reach of neck, level topline & excellent hard, super straight coat, presentation was not exaggerated in any way, moved & showed well. RCC;

2 Carlin & Gillott’s Lizandychris Out To Play, excellent coated dog, good in neck & shoulder placement, straight front, level topline, well set on tail, nice for size, showed well;

3 Gaydon’s Gilbri Stars & Stripes.

PGD (15,4)

1 Tullis’ Drumsheugh True Grit, workmanlike dog, strong head, powerful jaw, I liked his neckline & shoulder, straight front, sound mover, excellent hindquarters, has the rare black nails;

2 Noyce’s Maxula Name Of The Game, decent head, but just a little full in the eye, very neat ears, good coat, neat & well trimmed around his feet, many exhibits were not, full of himself & showed well;

3 Dunnes’ Charosmack Cool Days.

LD (9)

1 Lewis’ Lynnstow Man About Town, pleasing alert expression, smooth, well laid back shoulder, straight front, good neat terrier feet, straight, firm topline, good tailset, excellent presentation & movement, is well up to size;

2 Corri’s Inverglen Banjo, nice masculine dog, good head, clean stop, neat well placed ears, keen expression, looks right at you, good in body & hindquarters, lovely front, shows himself well with his free movement, in excellent coat;

3 Purchon’s Lindenka Sullivan.

OD (8,2)

1 Gordon’s Ch Lamsmore Fitzwritin, a dog of striking appearance, hard white coat, dark deep set eyes, tiny, well placed ears, good in neck, shoulders & topline, his short tail is set bang on top of his ultra short back, well boned skull & deep stop giving him correct expression, good straight front legs & super feet, expertly handled & shows non-stop. CC, BOB & G2;

2 Atkin’s Kymgarwin Crusader at Abercroft, sound dog with a good head & expression, strong in muzzle & foreface, good mouth dark eye, best of legs & feet, kept his straight tight front, still up on his toes at 6 years & showing well;

3 Thomson’s Ashgate McKenzie.

MPB (6,3)

1 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Opal, promising puppy with a lovely head & expression, dead white coat, dark eye & dense pigment, straight front, scores in shoulders & reach of neck, good topline & tailset, given time will trouble the best;

2 Noyce’s Maxula Make A Promise, attractive baby, nice head & all the basic requirements, what coat she has is good in colour & texture, keeps her outline on the move. Just needs time;

3 Davidson’s Braxquin Beginning A Dream.

PB (5)

1 Purchon’s Montrose by Lindenka, well presented puppy, steady, confident showgirl, liked her front & neckline, shoulders laid back & smooth, good topline & tailset, waiting for face furnishings. A little more stop would improve. BP;

2 Smith’s Lingbeck Playing The Lady, a taller bitch than 1, good head & front. Bit untidy around feet. Didn’t always use her ears. Good coat, moved well;

3 Dales’ Lynnsto Smarty Pants.

JB (8)

1 Dales’ Lynnsto Visa, super hard white coat, but it is so short down her back, would have liked another ¼ inch. Very attractive head, well made up under the eyes, good pigment, straight front, scores in neck & hindquarters, immaculate presentation;

2 Thomson’s Ashgate Miss Mona, lovely feminine head & correct expression with strong foreface, tremendous wealth of hard coat, well boned, strong hindquarters, uses them well, sound mover, presentation could be improved;

3 Smith’s Faymar Fine Romance.

PGB (20,6)

1 Corri’s Inverglen Sophie, attractive head & expression, good straight front, tidy feet, up on her toes, deep set dark eye, liked her shoulders & neckline, deep in body, sturdy but feminine, excellent mover, shows herself well. RCC;

2 Sweetzer’s Ambalasi Full Of Ambition, a quality bitch with a nice head & expression, lower to ground than 1, very hard white coat & an ultra short, firm back, well off for furnishings, good mover;

3 Burns’ Burnese Truly Talented.

LB (9,1)

1 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Bramble, striking head with a good alert expression, liked her neckline, layback of shoulders & front, good tailset, what coat she has is excellent, moves with the speed of lightening & now always in a straight line, made her handler work hark hard;

2 Foster’s Thozow Sweet Pea, speed-merchant here, feminine head & expression, good reach of neck, pure white, quality coat, powerful hindquarters but a little wide in front. Moves very quickly but I would prefer to see a little less of the speed & more drive from her, the same applies to several other exhibits;

3 Steemson’s Bocans Playing With Fire.

OB (11,2)

1 Molony’s Killynether Krazy For You, recently crowned, she is all terrier & looks as if she could go all day, excellent head & foreface, short, strong muzzle & correct mouth, strong & firm in body, tremendous coat of good texture, tall enough for a bitch but well balanced throughout, kept her topline as she moved with drive. CC;

2 Jenning’s Llovall As Mama Said to Comdale, slightly younger bitch who pushed hard, well presented, excellent coat, good pigment, level topline, firm body & good legs & feet. Not the strength of skull & foreface, as yet, of 1. Did all that was asked of her & her day will surely come;

3 Ash’s Hillcloud Drizzle.
