WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER

Courtesy of the Junior Stakes final held the previous evening we had a super sized carpeted ring. I therefore used this opportunity to move the dogs a lot as any construction failings then become obvious. Construction should come before grooming, that said we are showing dogs and at the top level presentation comes into play. My observations of the breed, and as a sometimes breeder exhibitor, are directed at myself as well as the entry. Temperaments without exception were good, one pup was a little overawed by the environment but this should improve with experience. I found little to complain about regarding bites, larger teeth would now be the icing on the cake. Perhaps because of our prolonged winter I found some who would have benefited from a pedicure, short nails help give the desired foot shape. I thank all who entered especially in these financially challenging times.

PD (4)

Lovely class.

1 & BP Gillott & Carlin's Lizandycris Devlin Disgise. 9 months, great strength to head with good eye, correct bite. Ears looking a little large at present but with maturity should be fine. Reachy neck into well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Clean front, good legs and feet. Firm level topline, short coupled with good tailset. Moved true out and back Pleasing presentation.

2 Squire Kimgarwyn Arlo. Also 9 months. Masculine head, dark eye, good bite. Well laid shoulder leading into short compact body with good topline and tailset. Lovely coat. Moved with extension and drive just needing to firm up in front.

3 Burns Burneze Dizzee Rascal. 10 months, Eyecatching with a beautiful white coat excellently presented. Not the shoulder construction of winner, well ribbed, short coupled good tailset. Moved well.

JD (5)

1 West Tomlyndon Spoilsport. Most attractive masculine head with good eye, neat ears and broad jaws with large teeth. Clean well laid shoulders, well ribbed, short coupled. Firm strong topline good tailset. Powerful quarters used to move with great drive.

2 West's Tomlyndon Spoilt Rotten. Same sire as winner and has the same super head qualities. Again well laid shoulders, good topline and tailset. At the moment I prefer the overall balance of winner.

3 Taylor's Flassendale Fairlie. Real honest dog with lovely head and expression. Slightly heavier in forehand but still has a well laid shoulder. Good topline and tailset. Moved true but suggest he and handler practice moving together.

PGD (9,1)

1 CC & BOB Edmondson's Pepabby Prank. Aware he has done a lot of winning and with hands on I can feel why. Has such a lovely head with good stop, broad scull, dark eye, neat ears which he never stops using giving the desired expression as though always ready for action. Super neck running into well laid shoulder with good return. Deep ribbed, short coupled, firm level topline with well angulated quarters and tail bang on top. Moved enthusiastically with great drive and extension. I accept his coat at the moment could be better but it is harsh, double coated and would cope with a days work if required.

2 Gillott & Carlin Lizandycris Out To Play. Another very decent dog with pleasing masculine head, good eye neat ears. Perhaps not the front assembly of winner though not much to fault. Well ribbed, good topline and tailset. Strong quarters, short hocks moved well.

3 Owen Bournehaven Triple Target Sh Ch. Well laid shoulder with good return, deep ribbed, strong quarters moved out well. For me I would prefer a little more hair left on ears to give a more natural expression.

LD (10,4)

1 Purchon Lindenka Sullivan. Very honest dog lovely to handle. Has a real masculine head with broad scull, good eye and ears. Deeper stop would complete the picture. Well laid shoulder with good return. Strong level topline deep ribbed , good tailset steady showman. Beautiful coat of lovely texture and correctly presented.

2 Budge Rozamie Icicle. Close decision. Another with a most attractive head with would be improved with a deeper stop. Nice eye and ear and bite. Most pleasing in forehand construction with good return. Well ribbed short coupled with good tailset. Moved well. Tidier presentation would improve overall picture

3 Tullis Drumsheugh True Grit Sh Ch. Good construction disguised by too much coat in places and unfortunately at this level of competition is taken into account. Has a strong masculine head with good eye and neat ears. Well laid shoulder running into short level topline. Short coupled, good tailset. Moved ok.

OD (8,3)

A lovely class and here I had to make some hair splitting decisions and some compromises.

1 & RCC Gordon Ch Lamsmore Fitzwritin. Presents a lovely picture, good outline kept on the move. Decent head with neat ears, dark eye good bite. Clean well laid shoulders though I would prefer a better return of upper arm. Deep ribbed, short coupled, strong topline good quarters well set and carried tail. Moved true and steady.

2 West Ch Karamynd Playing Away At Tomlyndon JW. Has the most lovely head with broad jaw good bite, neat ears making a most pleasing expression. Well laid shoulder with good return though movement in front could have been a little more positive, perhaps less furnishings may help.. Well ribbed, short coupled, strong well angulated quarters and moved with drive.

3 Mallon Irish Ch Lymehills Super Trouper. Completing a trio of handsome dogs. Has a strong head, wide scull, dark eye neat ears good bite. Decent reach of neck into clean well laid shoulders. Well ribbed, short coupled, good quarters and tailset. Moved true but would have liked a bit more enthusiasm.

MPB (4)

1 Hughes Brychdyn Remarque. 8 months stood out in this class. Lovely feminine expression with nice eye, neat ears and good bite Pleasing reach of neck into the best of shoulders with good return. Well ribbed, short coupled with strong quarters, excellent tailset. Kept a good shape on the move.

2 Robinson Patnor Party Girl. 7 months Most attractive head with neat ears and good bite. Well ribbed short coupled with good quarters and tailset. Preferred front assembly of winner.

3 Squire Bellevue Lookin F'fun. Also 7 months Close decision but preferred head and expression of 2nd. Well ribbed, good topline and tailset. Moved and showed well.

PB (6,1)

1 Lilley & Milling Lilmill Pocket Rocket. Most lovely head with dark eye, neat ears well used. Good reach of neck into clean well laid shoulders, good return. Well ribbed, short coupled Good hind angulation used to advantage as she moved with drive and extension. Pleasing presentation.

2 Purchon Montrose By Lindenka. Decent head properties though for me I would prefer a slightly higher ear placement. Clean shoulders, well ribbed with good quarters and correct tailset. True and steady mover.

3 Squire Kimgarwyn Opal. Today not co-operating with her handler on the move and this cost her. Most attractive head with a lovely expression. Deep ribbed, short coupled, good rear angulation which she can use!

JB (6,2)

1 Dale Lynnsto Platinum. Pleasing head and expression. Nice eye, neat ears. Clean well laid shoulder, deep ribbed, could be shorter coupled. Good tailset, strong quarters used with purpose as she covered ground with ease on the move.

2 Smith Lingbeck Playing The Lady. Liked for overall balance but preferred the shoulder of winner. Another with most attractive head and expression. Strong well angulated quarters, moved steadily.

3 Morton Lynnsto Switch To Swifton. Pleasing head and expression. Shoulder placement ok, well ribbed though would prefer shorter couplings. Good quarters and tailset. Moved steadily.

PGB (13,4)

1 Burns Burneze Truly Talented. A Lovely bitch to handle. Most pleasing head, good eye neat ears. Clean well laid shoulders, well ribbed, short coupled. Well angulated quarters with excellent tailset. A lesson in presentation. Moved with enthusiasm but today felt hind action could be more positive.

2 Cooper Brorastar Ain't She Sweet. She is but losing a little weight would make her sweeter. Needs handling. A very honest type with correct construction. Pleasing head and expression. Decent reach of neck running into well laid shoulders with good return. Strong well angulated quarters with correct tailset. Move true.

3 Strand Westlake Pearly Lady. Another that needs to be handled as she only shows off her qualities on the move. Attractive feminine head and expression. Well laid shoulder with decent return Well ribbed, good tailset. I would prefer a tidier trim

LB (9,1)

1 Coley Karamynd On Cue For Kingsview. Very compact bitch so nice to handle. Beautiful head and expression, nice eye neat ears good bite. Well laid shoulders with good return, deep ribbed short coupled. Strong well angulated quarters which she used on the move keeping a good shape and covering ground with ease.

2 Lilley & Milling Lilmill Potty Dotty. Extremely close decision as this is another lovely bitch. Slighter bigger but so very well balanced. Pleasing head and expression, reachy neck into well laid shoulder. Good topline and tailset. Again covered ground easily. Pleasing presentation.

3 Squire Kimgarwyn Bramble. Again a pleasure to handle. Attractive head and expression. Clean well laid shoulders, well ribbed, good topline and tailset. Showed her good construction as she moved with drive and extension just losing overall shape at times.

OB (7,3)

Most difficult decision of the day. Would take the first two home at any time. Found them similar and here I really was splitting hairs as the winner is beautifully presented but could carry tail better on the move. The second was hiding her lovely construction under an excess of coat.

1 & CC Lilley & Milling Lilmill Give Me Your Answer Do. Lovely head with dark eye neatest of ears well used. Has the forehand construction I appreciate with clean well laid shoulders and good return. Deep ribbed, short coupled, strong well angulated quarters, short hock, correct tailset. Moved out with super drive and extension.

2 & RCC Hands Crinan Celesta. Exactly the same construction comments as the winner. She has a beautiful head, so correct in front assembly, short coupled, excellent quarters and tailset. Moved with great freedom of action.

3 Mallon Irish Ch Colla Fanfare. Lovely also to handle. Most pleasing head and expression. Decent reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Deep ribbed, good quarters and tailset. Just not showing the same freedom of movement as first two.
