WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE LEEDS 15

I would like to thank the Leeds Championship Show Committee for inviting me to judge their show. The new layout of the showground was wonderful and I think appreciated by the exhibitors.
I would also like to thank my two Stewards for their help and assistance during the day.

Puppy Dog (1-0)

1) Anthony’s Charmedautum Willis Correct bite. Head ok. Slightly long cast. Coat was harsh to the touch. Movement a bit erratic but eventually he settled. I would like him to carry a bit more weight.

Junior Dog (3-1)

1) Noyce’s Armadales Son Of A Gun At Maxula (Imp) A strong male with a very good head. Correct bite with decent size teeth. Good reach of neck, clean shoulders running in to a short back. Strong quarters. Beautifully presented in a coat of correct length. He moved really well for his owner. Should have a bright future.

2) Burns’ Burneze Purely Belta. Aptly named youngster. He really was full of himself. Just out of puppy and so unlucky to meet the more mature dog today. Good head with a correct scissor bite. So well put together throughout. He was beautifully presented in a gleaming white jacket. It was a pleasure to go over such lovely dogs. They could change places any time.

Post Graduate Dog (5-2)

1) Jennings’ Comdale Johnny Junior. A dog I liked a lot. Strong head with a lovely expression. Correct bite with good sized teeth. Correct length of neck running into clean well laid back shoulders. Short coupled with a good depth of rib. Tail well set. Strong quarters. Moved with drive and he held his top line on the move. Beautifully presented with a double coat. A super dog.

2) Purchon’s Lindenka Chesterman. Another one with a good head and correct bite. Correct neck and shoulders. Slightly longer cast than one but still well balanced. His tail was carried well and he really covered the ground on the move, so well presented with a coat of correct length. I just preferred the make and shape of one.

3) Pearson’s Winoski Man Friday

Limit Dog (2-0)

1) Corri’s Inverglen Lowe N’ Behold. Mature male with a strong head, including a good width of the jaw with an exquisite expression. Strong neck, correct shoulder placement. Good front and strong hindquarters. Well set tail. Super coat and sympathetic presentation. A typical westie that moved with drive.

2) Pearson’s Winoski Mr Chips Sh.CM. Different type but nevertheless a very nice westie. Head and bite was ok and he produced a very good outline both moving and standing. Just preferred the more powerful appearance of one.

Open Dog (6-0)

1) Strand’s Crinan Code Name Westlake Boy oh boy, what a class. I was spoiled for choice. The indisputably best class of the day. I would have been happy to award CC’s to any of these dogs. I have judged this dog before and at that time I gave him the RCC. Since then he has grown into a full blown male and I have not changed my opinion about him. To me he is a typical workman like dog. Super head and the biggest teeth you could find in any westie. Wide jaw clean neck and shoulders, short coupled strong quarters tail so well set and he carries it so well. Powerful dog that could keep moving all day and could no doubt do the job he is designed for. He was well presented in a harsh double coat. I was delighted to award him his third CC and BOB

2) Hughes’ Ch Brychdyn Diamond Geezer Half Brother to one. A smaller package but with many of the same attributes. Super head and correct bite. Clean neck and shoulders powerful hindquarters. His sparkling white coat was presented to perfection. He showed himself to advantage at all times. A super dog I have watched from the side lines and admired. I was not disappointed going over him. RCC

3) Coley’s Kingsview Warwick

Veteran Dog (2-0)

1) McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Living Legend Sh.CM 10 ½ years old and not showing his age. Strong head with neat well set ears. Clean neck and shoulders. Short back, deep ribs. Short coupled, strong hindquarters which he used to drive round the ring. Very well presented, a credit to his owner.

2) Claridge’s Hamish Ivory at Sunniwhite Sh.CM. A very well constructed dog with everything right about him, today he was not as positive on the move and therefore had to make way for the older boy. Presentation was A1 Still a comparative youngster in great condition.

Puppy Bitch (1-0)

1) Purchon’s Lindenka Apple Krumble. Such a pretty puppy. Ultra feminine head with neat small ears. Ample reach of neck running into well laid back shoulders. Short level back, with correct tail set. Very good pigment. Excellent coat that was so well presented. Still a little lose in front but she is still young and will no doubt tighten up. She should have a bright future. I was happy to award her Best Puppy.

Junior Bitch (3-1)

1) Burns’ Burneze Geordie Girl. What can I say that has not already been said about this young bitch. She is a stunner. Lovely head piece. Neatest of ears, dark eye that gives her that piercing look. Ample reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, deep chest, short coupled, tail well set and carried at all times. Correct quarters and she is well enough muscled for her age. Presented to perfection, but it is on the move that she really shines. You just cannot take your eyes of her and you can see how well put together she is. The standard says, no small amount of self-esteem, well this youngster has that in abundance. Showing free, no topping or tailing here. I was happy to award her the CC, however in the challenge she had to give way to age and maturity.

2) Corri’s Frisbeck Flower Girl By Inverglen. Another very nice youngster that is so well put together. Lovely head piece with a correct bite. Lovely neck and shoulders, well coated and presented as always from this exhibitor, nothing overdone. Showed herself off to her advantage at all times, so unlucky to meet Geordie Girl today.

Post Graduate Bitch (6-1) A very mixed class of bitches

1) Woodward’s Fernsunrise Face The Music. Pleasing head with neat ears dark well shaped eye. Good front and well-muscled hindquarters. Deep chest, short coupled. Correct coat of a good length giving her that rugged appearance. She responded so well to her handler both standing and on the move so she presented a good outline at all times.

2) Burns’ Burneze Diamond Diva. Litter Sister to my Bitch CC winner. A lovely bitch who in my opinion need a bit of time. Just out of puppy so had quite a bit to give away in age. A lot of the same comments apply to her as to her sister. She is a slightly taller bitch but so well balanced. She moved true both coming and going. Shown in super condition and as always presentation was first class.

3) Rose’s Jopeta Kute Krystal

Limit Bitch (6-1)

1) Foster’s Thozow Forget Me Not Sh.CM A bitch I have watched for a while and I have seen her mature into a lovely bitch. Very pretty head with a correct bite. Neat ears that she uses all the time. Clean neck running into well laid back shoulders. Very good front and hindquarters. Beautifully presented in a crisp tight white coat and working as one with her handler all the time. A big personality in a small package. RCC pushed hard for CC but no doubt her day will come.

2) Jennings’ Comdale Lovely Molly. Another lovely bitch that showed well. Nice enough head with neat ears. Correct bite ample reach of neck, well laid back shoulders. Strong quarters, tail was well set on. Coat in very good order. I preferred the cobby type of one.

3) Jenkinson’s Highcross Charmer

Open Bitch (3-1)

1) Morton’s Swifdon Stormy Days A very nice bitch with a pleasant enough head. Neat well set ears. Correct reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, strong quarters. Broad back end, well set tail that she carried well on the move. Shown in very good coat and so well presented.

2) Hands’ Crinan Calista Another bitch that I liked a lot. Strong head, correct bite neat ears. Deep chest and strong hindquarters. She kept her outline on the move. Two nicely built bitches that fit the breed standard and I feel should make it to the upper house.

Veteran Bitch (3-1)

1) Smith’s Lingbeck Leading Lady And she was the leading lady today. A strong bitch who did everything she could to say, look at me. A bit on the larger side but not too big, so well put together. So well presented in a sparkling white coat. Working well with her owner at all times. I could not deny her a well deserved Best Veteran.

2) Rose’s Jopeta Jorja On My Mind Another strong bitch with a super head and bite. Neatest of ears. Well balanced, she carried her tail well. She really wanted to stride out so I did not see her at her best due to the owner/handler being slightly immobile at the time..Still a very nice bitch.
