WEST HIGHLAND WHITE LEEDS 13 Judge: Mr D Berry BEST OF BREED : 2751 SMITH Mrs V Ch Faymar Fine Romance WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE LEEDS 13 West Highland White Terriers I was very pleased with the size of entry given the prevailing situation, & my having judged relatively recently. Given that circumstances I couldn’t have expected the male fronts to have improved dramatically, for them to be straighter with less turned out feet & blacker nails, but I might have hoped that the nails would at least be shorter & therefore not accentuate these faults as much. MPD (4) 1 Coley’s Kingsview Warwick, very raw 7 month old with a coat coming through, good head & expression. Maybe not the best constructed in the class but the best mover overall; 2 Purchon’s Lindenka Frazer, liked him on the table, particularly for his front & his exceptionally good coat for age, moved true, but his lack of confidence told against him; 3 Jennings’ Comdale Handsome Harry. JD (3) 1 Corri’s Inverglen Lowe N Behold, very typical example from this kennel, liked his true front, head shape, outline & hard, tight coat, the best mover in the class; 2 Strand’s Crinan Code Name Westlake, liked his head & earset. Just needs to come together more; 3 Pearson’s Winoski Man Friday. PGD (5) 1 Purchon’s Lindenka Donovan, stood out for overall quality & presentation, moved & showed well; 2 Ladhams & Rudd’s Juraspirit Caimbeul, I said last time I judged him what I like about this dog & why he is better than first impressions, but it’s still the case that he needs to come up on his front feet to make the best of himself – may I now suggest some old fashioned road walking; 3 McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Latest Legend. LD (6) 1 Noyce’s Maxula Name Of The Game, a good quality class but he was the winner on first impressions & remained so, a good size without being too big & everything from his typical male head to his strong hindquarters with well shaped short tail, balances, given his excellent coat & movement I had no hesitation in giving him the RCC & only a type preference prevented it from being the higher award; 2 Pearson’s Winoski Mr Chips, his look has improved from when he stood behind the above last time I judged, though possibly not going just as well as he did then, nice to see a couple of slower maturing, but lasting, dogs coming to their best; 3 Corri’s Inverglen Lord Of The Manor. OD (4) 1 West’s Tomlyndon Spoilt Rotten, said last time I judged, where he had to give way to an exceptional dog from abroad, that he has everything I like to see, including type, though stacking, which has never been an important consideration for me, better than before, he’s still best appreciated on the move. CC; 2 Dale’s Something Special Superbia Lynnsto, a taller type with a typical straight front, lovely head & level topline, beautifully presented & I was much happier with his coat texture this time, bit lackadaisical in movement but its trueness carried him through; 3 Jennings’ Comdale Johnny Boy. VD (2) 1 Mcloughlin’s Ley Hey Living Legend, I know I’ve judged this 8 year old before in contested classes where his reverse scissor would have counted greatly against him, & it’s a pity as he is an otherwise good example of the breed with a decent front, good shoulder & good movement. MPB (2) 1 Coley’s Karamynd So What at Kingsview, pair of babies with similar strong points, particularly in heads, fronts & coats, her backend is notably well developed for one so young & her confidence showed both her expression & her outline to the better advantage; 2 Dale’s Lynnsto Legally Blond. PB (1) 1 Hunt’s Kellethrigg Lucky Charm, alone but her excellent construction, head, coat & movement would have carried her through most such contested classes I’ve judged previously. BP. JB (4) 1 Gaydon’s Gilbri Town Tease, a very typical & excellent example of this kennel presenting very much the finished picture, has the head, balance, outline, tail, coat & movement I want to see; 2 Jenkinson’s Highcross Charmer, different type, but of similarly superb construction with very pleasing front in particular, moved true but her wariness then, & while being examined, did count against her; 3 Ladhams & Rudd’s Juraspirit Jasmine. PGB (6) 1 Lancaster’s Clanestar Cloud Chaser, feminine headed bitch with good coat, lovely straight front, well laid shoulder, level topline & a correctly sized tail set well on excellent hindquarters, altogether a pleasure to go over & didn’t disappoint on the move. RCC; 2 Dale’s Lynnsto Ultra Special, not quite the layback & front movement of the 1 but otherwise has all the same attributes; 3 Woodward’s Fernsunrise Forget Me Not. LB (10) 1 Hunt’s Kellethrigg Serenade Girl, a very nice example of the breed wining a very good, even quality, & consequently difficult to judge, class, size did play a major part in one decision in particular but otherwise it mainly came down to a preference for heads & expressions; 2 Tullis’ Drumsheugh White Mischief, have said before that this one can only be best appreciated on the move, & after she was allowed to relieve herself this proved true again; 3 Burns’ Burneze Plan Bea. OB (6) 1 Smith’s Ch Faymar Fine Romance, a pleasure to get the opportunity to go over this girl again & heartening that one who was, deservedly, into the top awards at a very young age has proved to be a laster, & she’s not yet four, so much to like about her but I’ll just highlight here her lovely head, ears, expression & front. CC & BOB; 2 Lehtonen & Hotanen’s Int/Fin/Sw/Est Ch Who’s Hot And Who’s Cold, a lot to like &, like 1, showed excellent free movement, but doesn’t quite have the finish; 3 D White Mischief. VB (1) 1 Windram’s Cassara Princess, the owner knows that I have always had a lot of time for this bitch & while I have some criticisms that haven’t changed, I’m very glad to see that her 9 years have not diminished her movement, & in fact her attitude may even be better than it used to be.
