WEST HIGHLAND WHITE DARLINGTON 15 Judge: Mr W R Irving BEST OF BREED : 1418 BURNS, Miss M & BURNS Mrs A Burneze Geordie Girl WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE DARLINGTON 15 West Highland White Terriers It has been some years since I awarded CCs to the breed in the UK & the entry of 51 was quite good by present day standards. I was worried by fronts & not all that many had really good shoulders & front action. By & large I thought that coats were not bad & heads too seemed pretty good. The dogs were pretty good for colour & there was not too much chalk flying around except on a couple of exhibits. VD (3) 1 Tullis’ Drumsheugh True Grit, very pleasing in head & expression, tail could be better but good in neck & body without being overdone there. Moved better in front than2. Good compact body & OK in coat texture & length. Stood up well & gave of his best; 2 Claridge’s Hamish Ivory at Sunniwhite, another with a good compact appearance but shown a shade heavy at the moment & could be cleaner over the shoulder. Good in head & with the right stop which is where he scored over 3. Good in hind movement & was well muscled in hindquarters; 3 McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Living Legend. MPD (0). PD (7,2a) 1 Foster’s Hillsted Masquerade at Thozow, good in head & expression, could be better in tail but good tailset. Was good in neck & topline & pleasing hindquarters. Moved better in front than 2 & went on to be BP & win the RCC; 2 Gaydon’s Hopecharm Tony One, not so good in shoulder & could do with a bit more neck. Good head & correct compactness of body & good loin. Enough rib & good hindquarters & shown in good coat; 3 Clements’ Roxholm High Lander. JD (1) 1 Dunne’s Charosmack Codron Flite One, a youngster with a very good harsh coat texture. OK in head & expression & could be presented better there. Could be a bit straighter in front & more compact in body. Not terribly well behaved at times & needs more ring training. Good tailset & moved out well behind. PGD (5) The first two stood away here I thought. 1 Gillott & Carlin’s Lizandycris Line Me Up, very pleasing in head, skull & expression. Good size & correct set on of tail. Pretty good in coat & enough length of neck without being overdone. Moved better behind than in front; 2 Johnson’s Roxholm Ready To Rumble with Salmark, another one, pleasing for coat & good in tail length but could be carried better. Not so good in hind movement. Well presented & good in head & skull; 3 Windram’s Leonardo Ventura. LD (4) Not a good class for fronts. 1 Purchon’s Lindenka Chesterman, good in head, eye & skull with good small ears. Could be a shade better in topline at times when standing. Very good in tail. Could be better in shoulder but moved out well behind. Good rib & correct coat texture; 2 Noyce’s Armadales Son Of A Gun at Maxula, very good in coat & really compact in body. Could be better in front but very good in head & ears. Pretty good in hindquarters & OK for rib & loin; 3 Corri’s Inverglen Lowe N Behold. OD (5,1) 1 West’s Ch Tomlyndon Eager Ernest, stood out in this class. Good in head with the right skull, stop & good muzzle proportions which all went to give a good expression. Moved well behind & OK in front. Well presented & good neck flowing into typical topline with enough compactness & good loin. Good bone & tail OK for length & carriage. Went on to win the CC; 2 Steemson’s Serb Ch Bogarhazi Zuckini, another compact dog which is where he scored over 3. Not quite the movement of 1 but he too was good in head & expression. Good neck & correct stifles; 3 Strand’s Ch Crinan Code Name Westlake. VB (2) 1 Smith’s Lingbeck Leading Lady, better in topline than 2. OK in head & ears & moved better behind than in front. Good black nose compared to 2. Well bodied up but not so good in front movement; 2 Windram’s Cochansa Dales Pride, moved well behind but didn’t really hold her topline well when seen in profile moving around the ring. Coat not at its best. MPB (4,1) 1 Squire’s Kimgarwyn Thistle, quite immature & needs to do a lot of finishing in coat but what I liked about her very much was her front where she moved really well. Needs time to mature in head but was very good in outline & also moved well behind. BPB; 2 Smith’s Highcross Precious Charm to Lingbeck, good in head & further on in maturity & coat development. Moved OK behind but not so positively in front. Good underline & good tail & tailset & well developed for bone; 3 Jenkinson’s Highcross Crystal Charm. PB (4,2) 1 Purchon’s Lindenka Apple Krumble, a shade shorter in leg & not quite the head of 2 but moved better than 2 & could do with a bit more coat texture. OK behind & good in rib & loin. Needs to develop a bit in head & muzzle; 2 Gillott & Carlin’s Lizandycris Thistle Dew Nicely, standing looked very good & looked like the winner & was very pleasing in head, neck & topline but just wouldn’t be handled on the table & didn’t have enough confidence which is a pity. She moved out reasonably well & had good maturity for her age. JB (4) 1 Burns’ Burneze Geordie Girl, a young bitch which was very pleasing in outline & obviously had a great deal of quality about her, catching my eye even on the first tour of this class around the ring. She holds her shape well. Good in neck, topline & tailset. Good in head & quite good in ears. Scored in front over 2. Good hindquarters standing with rather well bent stifles. Has a great deal of breed type & is good in proportions & pretty good in coat & presentation. Went on to win the CC, BOB; 2 Gaydon’s Gilbri Dream Maker, another pleasing one for breed type & excellent in head & expression. Doesn’t have quite such a good shoulder & front as 1 but moved very well behind. Good topline & tailset; 3 Strand & Hands’ Crinan Carousel. PGB (2,1) 1 McLoughlin’s Llovall Look Here Ley Hey, stood alone but was quite sound in front & OK behind as well. Not in the best of coats but good head & skull, correct eye & good small ears. Well proportioned in body but coat not quite at its best. LB (4) A close run thing in this class between the first two, both of which had many good virtues. 1 Gaydon’s Gilbri Bright Star, just slightly more compact than 2 & was very good in head, skull, eye & expression. Moved out slightly better in front than 2. OK behind. Good in topline & tailset & correct in rib & loin; 2 Jenkinson’s Highcross Charmer, another also with a good head & expression & she was particularly good in coat texture, probably better there than 1. Excellent body outline & topline. Good hindquarters. As stated, a very close run thing in this class & the decision could be different on a different day; 3 Smith’s Lingbeck Playing The Lady. OB (7,2) 1 Steemson’s Roxholm Reign Dance by Bocans, very good for compactness of body. Good typical head & expression. Scored in topline over 2 & was really very good in coat length & texture. Good rib & depth. Moved better behind than in front. Went in to win the RCC; 2 Hands’ Crinan Calista, another with a good typical head & expression with the right stop, ears & eye. Not quite the topline of the winner but good in hindquarters & OK in bone; 3 Foster’s Thozow Forget Me Not. RONNIE IRVING |
