WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE CRUFTS 24
Firstly can I thank all exhibitors that travelled from near and far for this special day on
the westie calendar. Also to those that sat ringside and showed support for the winners,
creating a lovely atmosphere, thankyou.
On the found the breed to be in good condition on the day and nothing health wise to
worry me. Unfortunately I will say that the breed lacked depth of quality on the day for
what was once an event that only the best of the best could attend by sought-after
qualifications throughout the year. But I must say I’m very happy with my winners
I would like to remind folk that the breed does have a grooming guide that indicates a
length but the styles seems to vary and that becomes a matter of taste and what can
been seen from ring side isn’t always what a judge finds underneath. I was surprised to
see a softness creeping back in on more than one exhibit. Please remember the breed
is not the Bichon of the terrier group. Style over substance is not the answer if quality is
to be maintained.
As the judge on the day I was looking for West Highlands that fit my interpretation of the
breed standard. A tidy working type terrier with substance, bone and muscle. Neither
fashion of popularity came into my decisions. I will add that for my main winners I’d
happily take them home and work with them. They were a credit to their owners,
handlers & breeders.
Vet dog (7-4)
An interesting class and all 4 placed were obviously worthy Champions in there day.
1
st Griffiths Ch/it Ch Violent Warrior Vertragus. An upstanding 8 Yr old male of substance

very steady performance going on to lift Best Veteran.

st Vysniauskiene’s Harvey Baltoji Aurora at Cherryleague. A raw dog pleasing head and
expression, correct bite. Good coat moved ok front and rear.
2
nd Stankiene & Stankus Vivolunar Brando logo. At first impressions I preferred the visual
type. Head and expression ok presented in good coat moderate in angulation both front
and rear. Rib a little barrelled hence contributing to wide front movement. Lacked drive
in rear.
Limit Dog (3-2)
1
st Goodwin Nolan's Mac Too High Ho Silver. A 5 year old male of moderate make and
shape. Strong head, dark eye, well placed ear and correct bite. In good double coat

Open Dog (18-14)
Best male class of the day for depth of quality with the majority holding titles from
around the globe.
1
st Van Der Veen’s Int, Lux & Ned Ch Whitevillan Lucky Luke an upstanding stallion Male
with no small amount of self esteem. Upon inspection I found him to be balanced in his
angulation not over done, with a strong head with adequate stop. Well placed ears,
correct eye and broad jaw with correct bite. Strong neck correct rib and couplings lovely
bone and muscle tone. This boy proved that if they’re built right they move right. His
reach, drive and foot placement had to be admired. I could have watched him all day
and I think he could have gone all day, though I did worry about his pregnant handler. I
was pleased to learn of his breeding, hearing that he was father to the res cc winning
male and having never seen either dog before it was nice to learn that he already has
one CC in the UK finishing off at Crufts with CC number 2 and Bob. Let’s hope number 3
isn’t too far away.
2
nd Kanas Million Reason Sunshine Celebration. Another 4 year old male. Different in
type but when handled I found a lot to like . Pleasing head and expression well placed
ear, dark eye and good wide muzzle and correct bite. He has the whitest of coats and
dark pigment. Good reach of neck clean shoulder well ribbed and coupled , great
tailset and carriage with butt behind. Presented in good coat. He has a strong rear that
doesn’t need the extreme sculpting. Moved true front and back though at times he lost
his topline. These two boys definitely made the most of themselves when they caught
one another’s eye.
3
rd Skrobiszewska, Chen & Skrobiszewska. Am Gr Ch Play The Game Vertragus. A young
male of not quite two years old but oozes quality. Strong head nice eye & ear. Correct
bite. Good in neck and shoulder firm topline with good tailset and carriage. Moved true
front and rear. I found his groom a bit tight on the day making him look less mature and
his rear looking weaker but upon physical inspection I was very happy with him. I’m sure
he’ll have a bright future. Very well handled.
Veteran Bitch (5-5)
1
st Przygodska’s Int, Pol, Ro Ch Victory in the Game Vertragus such a pretty feminine girl
and in great condition for her age and litter sister to the veteran male. Presented in
lovely coat texture and trim. Feminine head and expression dark eye, neat ear and
correct bite. Clean neck and shoulder nicely ribbed and coupled. Good tailset and
carriage. Moved well front and back. If I had to be critical I would say I’d like a little more
return in upper arm but she oozes quality and a worthy ch.
2
nd Richards Multi Ch Magic Mystery Lady of White Castle. A 10 year old bitch of quality.
She’s nice for size and balance, good head. Dark eye, neat ear and correct bite. Well
angulated both fore and aft. Covered the ground well, presented in coat of good texture.
Would have liked her a litter lighter in body.

st Davidson’s Braxquin Especially for you. Nice for type and size. Pleasing in head, net
ear, dark eye. Good mouth. Clean in shoulder, good topline, tailset and rear. Presented
in good coat. She’s a bit straight I upper arm resulting in her being short in reach when
moving. Nice rear.
2
nd Broomhead’s Hopecharm Northern Queen at Bradenfox an honest bitch, nice for
size. Nice head and expression for her age. Neat ear, dark eye, correct bite. A little wide
at the shoulder which shows on her movement. Covered the ground well topline, tailset

1
st Burns Burneze Mad about a girl. Very nice for size and shape., nice head and
expression. Dark eye, well placed ear and correct bite. Clean neck and shoulder, one of
the shortest on the day. balanced in angulation both front and rear. Definitely has ring
presence and I’m sure will have a bright future. At this stage she still has a softness in
her coat but I’m sure the owner will get on top of it as she matured.
2
nd Bruen’s Zackshine Glenrosa. An honest bitch with a novice exhibitor that should be
proud of herself. Whilst she’s a little on the narrow side she is nicely constructed.

st Zvirble’s Selenidera Celestial Unicorn an honest bitch that will rise to higher things
I’m sure. Pleasing head and expression, ear, eye & mouth all correct. Clean neck and
shoulder, good topline and tailset that was carried well on the move. She is another one
that is balanced in her construction and it shows when moving. She has reach and
drive. Holding a lovely shape in side gate. Her coat needs work as it a bit soft.
2
nd Ulatowska’s White Queen of Hildor int Jun Ch another quality bitch with many of the
same virtues as the one before. Pleasing head and expression, ear, eye & mouth all
correct. Presented in good coat balanced fore & aft, moved true.
3
Rd Steemson’s Still the one I dream of whisper Dusk by Bocans.
Post Grad Bitch (6-4)
1
st Kopcka’s Leolux Jewel of the deep. Nice for size, feminine bitch that’s nicely put
together. A Front and rear that work well together, good topline, tailset and carriage.
Presented in a harsh coat all be it a little short. The over grooming gives her a bit of a
startled expression but they’re bits that can be improved upon with experience. Well set
ear, dark eye and good bite. It was lovely to see the emotions from this young handler
when she won the class. Moved and handled well. If you keep putting that much love
into the breed you will continue to succeed. You made my day (tears and all)
2
Nd Bradbury's Fourastay Flower Power. A pretty bitch with a lot to like . Feminine head
and expression. Nice eye, ear and mouth. Clean neck and shoulder. Nice rib and
couplings. Good topline and tail. Drove well from the rear. She was a little uptight on the
move but seen enough to warrant a nice placing. When her brain kicks in she will be a
different girl.
3
rd Szulzycka Newvoldermort Sweet Revenge.
Limit Bitch (5-5)
1
st Storey’s Lizandycris the new hope for Nossimp. This is a bitch I’ve admired a lot over
the last year and today I wasn’t disappointed. Whilst Feminine in size she has strength
in her size. Lovely head and expression, neat ear, dark eye and correct bite. Her front is
clean and well placed on the body. She’s well ribbed with short couplings. Good tailaet,
carriage resting on a strong rear that she uses. She moved true in all aspects and very
nicely presented. I’m sure her time will come for top honours.
2
nd Ulatowska White Queen of Hildor (repeat)
3
rd Szulzycka Newvoldermort just for me
Open Bitch (11)
A class of females that can change any day under another judge.
1
st Kanas’s Poppy Cake Sunshine Celebration.. I loved her!!! A 4 years old she has all the
qualities that a westie bitch should have. Feminine yet strong, bone without being
coarse, balance that I’d happily own with a coat that has the harshest of texture. Which
did make her rear look a bit high but on the table but upon inspection i was happy. I
loved her head, expression, mouth, strength of neck, well angulated front and rear. Her
tail set is correct and she had butt. Her rib and couplings are great. She moved with
reach and drive enough to please hence she won Bcc. It was great to find out later that
she is also full sister to the sire of the winning male.
2
nd Zvirble multi ch Selenidera All eyes on me. Oh boy doesn’t she live up to her name...
lovely head and expression correct mouth, lovely neck and should, good topline and
tailset. Carried well on the move. Nice spring of rib and short couplings. A little taller
than one but still so much to like. Her side gate is effortless moved true fore and aft.
Delighted to give her the res Bcc.
