Thanks must also go to the committee of the National Dogshow for inviting me to officiate at this level. Judging is not easy, to me it is having the breed standard as a blue print in my mind and find dogs that in my opinion come close to it, and that is the crucial word, opinion. At the end of the day it was just my opinion and I hope it has been taken that way, not all judges see the same things, not all judges find certain points of the dog as important as the next judge. I know there is a lot of talk, mainly on facebook, about the quality of the WHWT having gone down in the last ten or so years but I must say that in my opinion there are still quite a few WHWT of quality in the ring, which is reassuring, what we do next with the breed is down to all of us, we need to preserve what we can, to leave the breed in healthy circumstances for the next guardians of this lovely breed. Special Beginners Dog - No Entries Minor Puppy Dog (1/0) 1st - Kopycka-Wright's Newvoldemort Maximumforce For Leolux, well bodied pup, lovely to go over, nice rearend and moved well, would like to see a bit better earplacement. Puppy Dog (1/0) 1st – Gordon's Hopecharm Fizzing Whizzbee, Smart pup of good proportions, strong skull with good ears, eye and mouth. Nicely laid back shoulder, good angulation at the rear, moved with drive. Best Puppy Junior Dog (2/0) 1st – Corri's Inverglen November Knight, Nice cobby youngster, good skull, and correct earplacement. Lovely laidback shoulders and correct ribs. Good angulation at the rear, moved well. 2nd- Fox's Hillsted Same Direction, seen this dog as a pup and liked him. Much the same attributes as one, correct driving rear movement. On the day he did not seem to be settled when in the ring. Post Graduate Dog (3/1) 1st- Vysniauskiene& Vysniauskas' Harvey Baltoji Aurora At Cherryleague, nice type with a good head, dark eye, neat small ears. Enough depth of chest, I would have liked to have seen a slightly better layback of shoulder. Level back with a good tailset. Could do with a little bit more bend of stifle, which showed in rear movement. 2nd- Owens' Frisbeck Horn Pipe, nice dog, correct head and ear, slightly short upperarm, which will show in front movement. Good rear end and tailset. Limit Dog (3/0) Now this was a class that caused me a little trouble, first and second were very close, a really nice pair of young males, that I have liked watching ringside. 1st – Britten's Krisma Fine Fettle, and he sure was in fine fettle, lovely dog to go over, good head, ears and the dark eye I like to see, good mouth. Neatly laid back shoulders and good ribs. Short in loin, level back and good tailset, good bend of stifle, moved with drive, facilitated by his hocks being in the right place so they enabled movement with drive. Reserve CC. 2nd- Fox's Hillsted Same Difference, all the attributes of 1, good type and driving movement, in the end it came down to ear placement, I preferred the earplacement of 1. Open Dog (5/2) 3 males that showed off themselves and all their good points well. 1st – Davison's Hopecharm Midnight Cowboy For Braxquin, a dog that surprised me, watched him many times from the ringside, but this is a dog that you need your hands on to appreciate him. Good skull, good ear placement, enough depth of chest, good ribcage, short in loin, level back, good tailset. Moved well front and rear, with the rear driving him forward, as I like to see it. Dog CC 2nd – Steemson's Ch Bocans Hot Of The Press, nice dog, a little too large for me but has a lot to like about him, Good strong skull, good ear and eye, level back and good tailset, but when it came to separating 1 and 2, it came down to movement, I preferred the rear movement of 1. 3rd – Thomson's Ch Ashgate Kelvin Veteran Dog – no entries Special Beginners Bitch (2/0) 1st - Kopycka-Wright's Leolux Jewel Of The Deep, a nicely groomed and presented bitch, good head, good mouth. Would have preferred better layback of shoulder, nice rear, and tailset. 2nd - Anthony's Charmedautum Willow, as 1, would have liked a bit better layback of shoulder, nice type, very much still a baby. Minor Puppy Bitch (3/1) 1st – Crozier's Dalskairth Kirkholm Cutie, just 6 months so there is still a lot of developing to do, but a nice type with a good head and ear, good layback of shoulder, would like to have seen some more bend of stifle, good tailset. 2nd - Anthony's Charmedautum Willow Puppy Bitch (2/0) 1st – Thomson's Hillcloud Echowave By Ashgate, Pup of really nice quality, nice head and good earplacement, good shape and dark eye. Good layback of shoulder, level back, correct tailset, Moved with drive. 2nd - Broomhead's Hopecharm Northern Queen At Bardenfox, similar in type as 1, but I preferred the shoulders and rear of 1. Junior Bitch (5/1) 1st - Burns' Burneze Mad About The Girl, a name that suits her, lovely type, lovely skull, with neat ears and a dark eye, good mouth, good depth of chest, well layback of shoulder. Level back and a well angulated rear end, moved with drive and for some reason watching her go round with her handler it made me smile, well presented. When it came to the RCC, I would have liked her slightly bigger. 2nd – Davison's Braxquin Especially For You, another nice bitch, good head and ears, but I preferred movement and drive of 1 on the day. 3rd- Vysniauskiene & Vysniauskas' Nina Ricci Blataj At Cherryleague Post Graduate Bitch ( 5/1, & 1 withdrawn) This was a class with three bitches that were very close, there was in my opinion not a hair between them. I could not award 3 1st's so had to put them in order, but they can change places at any time. 1st - Steemson's Still The One I Dream Of Whisper Dusk By Bocans, lovely type, cobby and strong build, good head and neat small ears, good eye. Lovely layback of shoulder, level topline, well set tail, moved with drive front and rear. Reserve CC 2nd – Bradbury's Fourastay Flower Power (as 1) 3rd - Fryer & Krisova Kanasova's Gin And Tonic Sunshine Celebration At Hopecharm (Imp Slo) (as 1) Limit Bitch ( 2/0) 1st – Fryer's Hopecharm Fleur De Rosa, nice bitch of right proportions, and temperament, more then willing to have a go at the Rhodesian Ridgebacks in the next ring. Nice head and ears, good eye, good shoulders and level back, would have liked a tad more angulation in the rear. 2nd – Crozier's Dalskairth Glamis Girl, another lovely bitch, good head and ear, nice dark eye, level back. I preferred the earset of 1. Open Bitch (4/0) The class of the day to me, strong bitches as I like to see them. 1st – Fox's Hillsted Sweet Whispers, not overdone and everything in the right place, strong skull with a good ear, good eye. Depth of chest as I like to see, well laid back shoulders, good ribs, level back and a good tailset. Good angulation behind, with the hocks where the need to be, close enough to the body to really create that driving movement a WHWT should have. No hesitation to give her the Bitch CC & Best of Breed 2nd – Smith's Ch Lingbeck Hold The Dream, another nice bitch of quality, strong head, well placed ear and dark eye. Good shoulder with a level topline, good angulation at the rear. Everything the winner had but on the day I preferred the movement of the class winner. Ida Bouwhuis Go To Top Of Page

My thanks must go to all exhibitors for entering what was my first CC appointment, after serving an apprenticeship of 45 years, during which a lot of people were part of my journey, some of you are still in the breed, so thank you! Thanks must also go to the committee of the National Dogshow for inviting me to officiate at this level.

Judging is not easy, to me it is having the breed standard as a blue print in my mind and find dogs that in my opinion come close to it, and that is the crucial word, opinion. At the end of the day it was just my opinion and I hope it has been taken that way, not all judges see the same things, not all judges find certain points of the dog as important as the next judge.

Special Beginners Dog - No Entries

Minor Puppy Dog (1/0)

1st - Kopycka-Wright's Newvoldemort Maximumforce For Leolux, well bodied pup, lovely to go over, nice rearend and moved well, would like to see a bit better earplacement.

Puppy Dog (1/0)

1st – Gordon's Hopecharm Fizzing Whizzbee, Smart pup of good proportions, strong skull with good ears, eye and mouth. Nicely laid back shoulder, good angulation at the rear, moved with drive. Best Puppy

Junior Dog (2/0)

1st – Corri's Inverglen November Knight, Nice cobby youngster, good skull, and correct earplacement. Lovely laidback shoulders and correct ribs. Good angulation at the rear, moved well.

2nd- Fox's Hillsted Same Direction, seen this dog as a pup and liked him. Much the same attributes as one, correct driving rear movement. On the day he did not seem to be settled when in the ring.

Post Graduate Dog (3/1)

1st- Vysniauskiene& Vysniauskas' Harvey Baltoji Aurora At Cherryleague, nice type with a good head, dark eye, neat small ears. Enough depth of chest, I would have liked to have seen a slightly better layback of shoulder. Level back with a good tailset. Could do with a little bit more bend of stifle, which showed in rear movement.

3 males that showed off themselves and all their good points well.

2nd - Anthony's Charmedautum Willow, as 1, would have liked a bit better layback of shoulder, nice type, very much still a baby.
