We often do not see the good dogs after a career going up the classes and then retiring. Well done ‘The National’. It is over two years since I judged & although obviously this is only a portion of the breed I was heartened by this entry especially by the limit & open classes of both sexes. In the males we had generally good strong heads, many with large teeth! Indeed I saw nothing to give concern with bites & teeth in general today. Open dog was a great class, I enjoyed judging. Puppy bitches appealed greatly & with a little luck my BP should have a bright future. Limit & open bitch produced many who I would be proud to own, many of these deserving their title. Presentation in general was sensible & the majority were terriers enjoying strutting their stuff. MPD (2) 1 BPD, Thomson’s Hillcloud Lightening Bolt with Ashgate, 7 months, super headed pup with broad strong skull, great strength to muzzle topped by a mouthful of large teeth with correct dentition. Clean shoulder, well ribbed, short coupled. Enough angulation, keeps a good profile on the move with good tail carriage; 2 Foster’s Hillsted Masquarade at Thozow, just 6 months but took the day in his stride moving true both ways, just a little lazy with tail carriage. Another with strong skull & muzzle with big teeth in a lovely bite. Just not the stop of 1. Clean shoulder, well ribbed, short coupled. For me I would prefer a little more angulation fore & aft but presents a balanced picture. PD (0). JD (3) Three very promising teenage youngsters. 1 Noyce’s Armadales Son Of A Gun at Maxula, lovely headed dog, a real handful with width & depth, nice eye, neat ears, excellent bite. Reachy neck into well laid shoulder, good depth of rib carried well back, short coupled. Well angulated quarters, tail bang on top. Lovely texture to coat well presented. Moved with reach & drive. Is just at the teenage stage needing time for everything to come together for the finished dog; 2 Purchon’s Lindenka Chesterman, again a most attractive masculine head with lovely bite. Clean well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Strong well angulated quarters with tail on top. Steady mover keeping a good shape in profile. Not just as well developed in rib as the winner, needing time; 3 Bradbury’s Gelmore Midwinter Magic. GD (1) 1 Windram’s Leonardo Ventura, pleasing head with a nice eye & the neatest of ears, good bite. Would prefer more lay to shoulder but is well ribbed with short loin. Good coat texture & is a free happy dog on the move. PGD (5,1a) 1 McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Latest Legend, pleasing head, good width to skull with nice eye, neat ears, strong muzzle & good bite. Well ribbed, short coupled, strong quarters with good tailset. Makes the most of himself on the move with free easy action; 2 Szulzycka’s Newvoldemort Al Capone, pleasing head though the trim makes him look a little feminine. Very compact dog with depth of rib carried well back with short strong loin, good tailset. Would prefer more lay of shoulder, has a lovely harsh jacket though profuse leg furnishings disguises movement; 3 Bartley’s Yushama Shooting Star Atelib. LD (5,1) 1 Dale’s Hopecharm Ed Turner at Lynnsto, masculine in head properties with nice eye, neat ear, good muzzle & bite. Clean shoulders, good depth of rib carried well back, short strong loin. Correct tailset & carriage. Excellent coat & presentation. Would prefer a little more angulation as although steady on the move would like more drive & extension; 2 Purchon’s Lindenka Donovan, pleasing head with nice eye, good bite. Clean shoulder, short coupled, good tailset with balanced quarters. Steady on the move, could be a little more positive in front. Not as forward in development at winner, again just needing time; 3 Strand’s Crinan Code Name Westlake. OD (7,1) A lovely class to judge, thank you for bringing your dogs. 1 CC & BOB, Coley’s Kingsview Warwick, strong all male stallion & he knows it. Reminds me of the great dogs from the past. Great width & strength of skull, strong deep muzzle, good bite. Nice eye & ear presenting true terrier expression. Clean, well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Deep rib carried well back, short coupled. Excellent topline, angulated quarters, moved with extension & drive covering ground easily. Harsh double coated jacket with pleasing presentation; 2 RCC, West’s Ch Tomlyndon Eager Earnest, eyecatching deserved ch. Super head with a nice eye, neat ear, correct bite. Well laid shoulder, deep rib, strong quarters, tail on top. Close up to winner. Moved with drive but a little untidy in front, not the verve of winner; 3 Engelbrecht V Orden’s Int Ch Multi Hopecharm Prince Harry, completing a trio of lovely dogs. VD (3) 1 Tullis’ Drumsheugh True Grit, have judged before & still like him. Lovely headed dog with neat ear, good eye, correct dentition. Well laid shoulder, ribs carried well back, short loin. Good topline, quarters & tailset though needs trimming for the move. Moves with good extension & drive effortlessly. Delighted to see him placed in the veteran group; 2 McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Living Legend, another I have handled in the past. Now 10 years old. Pleasing head with nice eye & ear. Dentition showing signs of age. Well laid shoulder, well ribbed & short coupled. Decent angulation with good tailset. Little lazy on the move; 3 Sarmac Starlite Express. MPB (4) 1 Dale’s Lynnsto Issa Star, balanced pup so well presented. Feminine expression with dark eye, good bite. Well ribbed, short coupled, good quarters & tailset. Move true both ways if at times just a little overawed by the day; 2 Morton’s Swifton Sweet Surrender, another promising pup with such excellent pigmentation. Pleasing head properties. Well laid shoulder, well ribbed, short coupled. Good tailset & enough angulation. Needs to tighten in front movement; 3 Woodward’s Fernsunrise Fly The Flag. PB (3,1) 1 BP, Corri’s Frisbeck Flower Girl by Inverglen, thought her quite delightful. Ultra feminine & so well balanced. Lovely head, nice eye, neat ears, correct bite. Clean well laid shoulder, well ribbed, short coupled. Good quarters, tail on top. Moved with ease showing drive & extension keeping a great shape; 2 Szulzycka’s Newvoidemort Start Me Up, a little overwhelmed but time will improve. Lovely head, nice eye, good bite. Well ribbed, short coupled. Good tailset. White harsh coat, well presented. JB (2,1) 1 Sweetzer’s Ambalasi Pick’n’Mix, needs handling to appreciate. Pleasing head, good eye & correct bite. Well laid shoulders with good return. Well ribbed, good topline & tailset. Moved soundly though not with much purpose. GB (0). PGB (7,2) 1 Bacon’s Refrandies Furzey at Cabon, very nice to handle, well balanced. Lovely head, nice eye, ear, strong muzzle with correct bite. Clean shoulder, well ribbed, short loin, good tailset & quarters. Free easy action on the move, well presented; 2 Davison’s Braxquin Forget Me Not, lovely head & expression, nice eye, ear, correct bite. Well ribbed, short coupled, good topline & tailset. Excellent presentation with a harsh very white jacket. Preferred shoulder & movement of winner; 3 Woodward’s Fernsunrise Face The Music. LB (8,3) A really good class topped by two lovely bitches I would be proud to own. 1 Britten’s Krisma Storm In A Teacup, so well balanced. Lovely head & expression, good eye, ear & bite. Good reach of neck into a very well laid shoulder, good return. Well ribbed, short coupled, well angulated quarters with excellent tailset. Moved true in every way. Good harsh jacket though just a little short of coat & this was a factor when making green card decisions. Nothing a couple of weeks won’t solve; 2 Hand’s Crinan Calista, always like what this exhibitor shows & today no exception. Lovely head, expression with nice eye & good bite. Ears a shade wide. Well laid shoulder, well ribbed with short loin, good quarters & tailset. Moved well with ease of action covering ground; 3 Lancaster’s Clanestar Cloud Chaser. OB (5,2) 1 CC, Coley’s Karamynd So What at Kingsview, what a smasher, just loved her great terrier attitude looking down her nose at the opposition. Head fills the hand, excellent pigmentation, strong muzzle, good bite, neat ear. Great reach of neck into clean well laid shoulder. Ribs carried well back, short coupled, excellent tailset & carriage. Moved with great reach & drive. Harsh white jacket well presented. In the challenge for BOB, that could have gone either way, I felt the dog was just the more controlled on the move; 2 RCC, Moreton’s Swifton Stormy Days, slightly softer in demeanour to winner but another lovely bitch. Good breadth to head with strong muzzle, good bite. Well laid shoulder with good return. Well ribbed, good topline, strong quarters with good tailset. Lovely jacket very well presented. Moved true in every way with free easy action just not the verve of the winner; 3 Noyce’s Maxula Box Of Tricks, completed a trio of lovely exhibits. MODWENA JOHNSTON Go To Top Of Page
