WEST HIGHLAND WHITE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 14 Judge(s): MISS JEAN LANNING West Highland White Terriers I found a divergence in type & size. I have always considered one of our old unspoilt breeds. The Westie has always been a smart, neat, compact, & well balanced dog, not given to any exaggeration. Today I found a big variation in size, & several with too much length of body. I was surprised to find they are on the health watch, & have a skin problem, also irregular teeth?! My finding has always been over the years, dogs shown under me did not appear to have a skin problem. My information is, that dogs that are ‘hand stripped’ on the whole, do not have a problem, but the many pets who regularly have the clippers run over them, so often suffer from clipper rash & Eczma. If there is a problem with teeth in this breed, one is always able to find quite a number, with ‘small teeth’ (like grains of rice). A point I have over the years highlighted this in my critiques. I thought overall the quality in bitches higher than the males. My top winners, in my humble opinion are true representatives of the West Highland White. MPD (1) 1 Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Nosey Parker, for one so young, well finished, hard coat, moving well. PD (5) 1 Dale’s Hopecharm Ed Turner at Lynnsto, excellent head & eye, with strong jaws & good teeth. Smart mover. BP & PG4; 2 Ash’s Hillcloud Jupiter, neat type, has time to finish well; 3 Steemson’s The Dashing Devils Macho Man. JD (3) 1 Gale’s Bocans Bolt To Bellevue, high class. Well coupled, lovely size, excellent pigment, has all the qualities to end in the top flight. His day will come; 2 Lilley & Milling’s Krisma Line Dancer at Lilmill, built on bigger lines, excellent coat, but too long cast; 3 Bartley’s Davot Chief Whip Atelib. GD (2) 1 Dale’s Lynnsto Candyman, in good order. Good head & eye, with strong jaw, moving out well. Won well today. RCC; 2 Windram’s Louie Conquistador, ideal size, needs to firm in front. PGD (8,2a) 1 Judge-Ford & Clements’ Bocans Blade, real Westie. Well balanced with excellent coat, excellent head & eye, strong jaw with excellent large teeth, correct coat, presented in A1 order. CC & BOB; 2 Dale’s Jack Sparrow Du Moulin de Mcmonique, another that can go all the way. Pleases for size, grand type, well balanced & moving well; 3 Budge’s Charmedautum Dazzle. LD (4,1) 1 Thomson’s Ashgate US Apollo, as one expects from this kennel, the hallmark of excellence. Size & type all there. One of the best movers today; 2 Purchon’s Lindenka Donovan, well coupled, pleasing size, just needs to extend more on the move; 3 Pearson’s Winoski Mr Chips. OD (4,1) 1 Jennings’ Ch Comdale Johnny Boy, built on large line & could be shorter coupled. Sound mover, & well presented with excellent coat. Excellent head, eye & mouth; 2 Metcalfe’s Flassendale Fairlie, size & type appeal, but topline did not appeal today; 3 Noyce’s Maxula Name Of The Game. MPB (4,2) 1 Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Bubble And Squeak, promising, balance & type all there; 2 Thomson’s Dylandougie Ayr at Ashgate, same lovely quality. Two high class babies with time on their side. PB (1) 1 Bartley’s Atelib Moon Aura, another needs time, moving a little close behind. Good coat. JB (3) 1 Foster’s Thozow Forget Me Not, cobby build, moving well, in good coat, with good head & eye. Won well today. RCC; 2 Harper’s Westigo Cheeky Girl, close up, same make & shape, can finish well; 3 Dale’s Lynnsto Candy Crush. GB (3) 1 Steemson’s Bocans Bossy Boots, moving well. Lovely pattern, good head & eye, strong jaws, pleasing size; 2 Hunt’s Kellethrigg Lucky Charm, has the type & the size, not so tidy in front action; 3 Woodward’s Fernsunrise Forget Me Not. PGB (6,1) 1 Harper’s Westigo Sheeza Delight, short back, pleasing size, the right stamp; 2 Minett’s Matheron For’n Affair with Duskhunter, similar type, close up here; 3 Claridge’s Hillcloud Echo with Ashgate. LB (6,2) 1 Clements’ The Dashing Devil’s Precious Star, well balanced, good for size, excellent pigment. Moving well; 2 Owen’s Egremont Seventh Heaven, won well here. Good example.
