STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE WINDSOR 22

I would like to firstly take this opportunity to thank the officers and committee of Windsor Championship Dog Show for my invitation to judge at this prestigious show and my two stewards who kept everything in order for me. But my biggest thanks goes to the exhibitors, who gave their time and hard earned money for my opinion, and for this I am extremely grateful. It has been four years since I last judged the breed, due to a lockdown cancelled appointment in between, but I have to say the breed is in good shape, dentition was very pleasing, and fleshy heads and breathing difficulties were almost non-existent at this show and it was a very warm day. I have two criticisms in general, one is that a few exhibits were unfit and lacking in muscle tone and this is so easily remedied and that tail carriages still need to be addressed by breeders in the future. I said in my critique of Darlington 4 years ago when my SBT went Terrier Group 2 and my Veteran won the Veteran Group, “If I ever get another day like this, I will be extremely lucky”, well it seems my luck was in as the Stafford Puppy won the Puppy Group and came back to compete on the last day of the show for BPIS. It was a huge effort from his owner who lived the other end of the country, and he truly showed his heart out and was handled to perfection. For this I thank you for representing our breed so well.

Vet (4)

1 Lewis’ Ch Biggleswick Splash of Ginge. 7-year-old red dog who certainly does not look like a Veteran! Typical head with distinct stop, dark, round eye and beautiful clean dentition all there housed in powerful jaws with the required cheek bumps. He has a good straight front, great depth of brisket and rib and powered by strong hind quarters. He moved with purpose and drive holding his level topline. BV. Well done for keeping him in such good order.

2 Rowe & South’s Illori Akinlana JW Sh CM VW. B/B dog of 8 years old with slight greying to his muzzle. Good head piece with neat ears and dark eyes. Good front construction and moved well holding his topline. Correct tail carriage. I just preferred the overall bone and balance of my winner.

3 Daly-Lees Starolestaff Arabella at Boscador. B/B bitch of smaller stature, also 8 years old. Dark eyes, lovely expression, ears carried a little high. Did not have the fitness and condition of my first two places but at her age it is allowed. She was a real sweetheart.

MP (2)

1 Lavington’s Ginstean Bracken Boy. B/B 8 months old. Lots to like about this young dog and I’m sure there is such a lot more to come as he matures. A nice clean head, with dark eyes and strong muzzle with correct dentition. He has a good front, nice tight feet and moved well once settled. Enough depth of brisket and rib for age. A nice puppy. Good luck with him.

2 Martinez’ Bullbrothers Hott as Hell Red of smaller stature than 1. Also, of 8 months old with slightly lighter bone to my winner. Clean head with dark eyes, good dentition and correct ear placement. Good front and spring of rib. Correct tail carriage. Neat feet, good backend with correct angulation and moved well once settled.

PD (4)

1 Wilson’s Northstaff Nightmare. B/B 9-month-old pup of such obvious quality. He is everything a pup should be at his age and stood fore square and looked the part from all angles. Beautiful clean head, strong muzzle housing correct dentition and dark eyes. Tidy ears, good front and rear construction and the required tail set. When asked to move he did so with purpose, holding his topline level. He didn’t take his eyes off me and was not to be denied today. I was pleased to award him Best Puppy and to my delight he went on to win the Terrier Puppy Group 1 under judge Anne Macdonald. Well done.

2 Paulauskiene -Diana’s Diamond Don Quixote NAF. B/B 11-month-old. Clean head with good stop, dark eyes and correct ear placement. Good dentition. Good front and rear construction. Moved OK.

3 Butler’s - Alport on Tour. B/B of 11 months old. Pleasing head shape with dark eye and correct bite. Nice front on this lad, short coupled and good rear. Moved and handled well. Carried his tail a little high today which spoiled his outline on the move.

J (9,1)

1 Stanway’s Waystaff Strikes Mayhem AI. Pied dog. A fit, muscular exhibit who I strongly considered for the RCC. He was the fittest dog here today and it was a joy to go over him. A well balanced, standard dog with good pigmentation. Strong head with correct bite and cheek bumps. Dark eyes with a wicked expression. Deep, wide chest, good spring of rib, short coupled and muscular hindquarters completed the picture. Moved well with correct tail carriage.

2 Gicquel’s It Quash Marvelous Hagler de Stafflorence. B/B Another good head on this dog, with dark eyes and strong muzzle housing correct dentition. Neat ear carriage and strong neck. Straight broad front, good ribs and depth of brisket with a muscular backend which enabled him to move with drive. Neat feet. I just preferred the fitness of 1.

3 Higginson’s Fairlenium Iron King. Pied dog with good pigmentation. True head shape with dark eyes. Wide chest and good angulation. Moved extremely well but I would have preferred a harder condition.

Strong muzzle with plenty of underjaw housing correct dentition. Good width to chest, spring of rib and strong hindquarters. Tail held correctly and moved with drive holding a level topline. Lovely condition on this dog. One to watch!

2 Clark’s Ortizo’s Powerpack Lachlan Dorin JW. B/B another quality exhibit with clean head, dark eye and strong muzzle. Standard dog very similar to my 1st in body. Just preferred the movement of 1.

3 Tomkins Pasgal’s- Reach Out And Touch. B/B of smaller stature than the first 2. Head not overdone, with dark eyes and good mouth. Moved well.

PG (4)

1 Jefferson’s Alport Bold Ruler. B/B A good standard dog with a strong head, straight front, good rear and angles in all the right places. Shown in good hard condition. 1 Jackson’s Jackabyte Javikah B/B dog of obvious quality. Masculine head, strong with good depth to muzzle housing big white teeth. Dark, round eyes with piercing expression. Strong neck, well sprung ribs and strong muscular hindquarters with correct tail set. Moved well with purpose and drive making his owner keep up with him. Shown in fit, hard condition which clinched the RCC.

2 Parker’s Jackabyte Boletoro at Nettleworth. B/B A beautiful, strong head piece. Very similar to 1. With all the bodily attributes to the RCC winner above, I just preferred the fitness of my winner.

3 Johnson’s Ellchansha Hotshot. B/B Another class act. Standard black brindle. Pleasing clean head with dark eyes, neat rose ears and a naughty expression. Good width across the chest, well sprung ribs and strong rear construction. Moved well holding a level topline.

Fore and aft construction was everything it should be at this age. Moved well in good condition. I was pleased to award her Best Puppy bitch and she was unlucky to meet another from this kennel in the BP challenge, but her day will surely come. One to watch!

2nd Quinn’s Callastaff Five Years at Bowferry B/B slightly bigger than 1. Clean head, with strength. Good front and rear. Moved well holding her topline. Again, everything she should be at this age. Another quality pup.

YB (4)

1 Parker’s Elitebull Mojito at Nettleworth B/B a quality, standard bitch. Powerful head, dark eyes and neat ears. Strong muzzle with good under jaw housing correct dentition and the required cheek bumps. Good depth of brisket, wide chest, well laid-back shoulders and spring of rib. Fit and muscular hindquarters which allowed her to move with drive around the ring holding a level topline with the desired tail set.
