STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE WINDSOR 17

Thank you to all exhibitors for investing their time and money to seek my opinion today. Overall I found the exhibits presented to me today to be on the whole of varying type, to my mind dentition has improved over the last decade, and it goes without saying that temperament remains 100% reliable. With this in mind neither are mentioned in individual appraisals. The use of bait seems to be increasingly popular in the breed, handlers need to be aware that the use does not detract from their charge's movement, there is nothing worse than looking at an untypical, high stepping front action when an exhibit is looking to the handler for bait.

VD (3)

1 Jones & Jones' Blazinstaff Light My Fire JW ShCM. Red carrying good pigmentation, he's a lovely balanced exhibit, completely free from any exaggeration, strong enough head so you see he's definitely a dog without any coarseness, he retains his shape on the move although a little more reluctant than in his youth he still had enough to win his class here.

2 Smart & Worthy's Fifa Blue. As his name would suggest, he's a blue dog, he's very strongly headed, good muzzle ration and well set ears, fairly well balanced in profile, front a little loose, that said he moved pretty well, presented in fine order.

3 Roberts' New Holland At Jamborob. A grand old brindle chap with a dash of white on his chest, he has lovely pigmentation decent head with slightly high ear set, fairly square in profile and was sound on the move.

PD (2)

1 McClements' Samtan Brindle Prince At Jodanzac. Brdle/Wht, a pleasingly coloured brindle lad with white on chest, He's a powerfully built puppy with a strong head to match the rest of his well proportioned body, ears are held a little high currently and he wasn't giving his handler the easiest time of it today, when he did get it together he was not bad at all on the move. BPD was absent to challenge the bitch for BP later in the day.

2 Brady's Calazde Black Hawk War. Blk/Brdl, not as heavily built package as first but a decent enough pup, neat head that would benefit from a bit more underjaw and a rounder eye shape, good body proportions and presented in good order, not moving with the rear drive of first today, nice pup nonetheless.

JD (8)

1 Allsopp's Rubericla Trailbreaker. Blk/Brdl, a very smart all round package presented in gleaming condition. For me, in the challenge he just lacked a bit of bone and I'd like a slight difference in his leg/body proportions, but there can be no argument that he's a quality exhibit, clean lines when you view him at any angle, his head is strong without being over done, well set ears make for a typical expression, well bodied and as said, turned out in hard condition, his angulation front and rear in correlation produce a sound moving dog once his handler got rid of bait from his hand and I could see his true movement.

2 Breckell's Chiswelstaff Lets Dance. Blk/Brdl, this is another smart exhibit, he does possess more bone than first and also has the clean lines, his head is strong, neat and typical, nicely ribbed and correct length of back, strong rear and well set on tail, not a lot to split him from first, just came down to a preference and a slight one at that, of first's front movement. Turned out in super condition.

3 Southall & Powell's Beckash Up N' Atem. Blk/Brdl, strongly headed exhibit of a good size and shape overall, not the clean lines of first and second and a little longer cast, he's in good order and when settled, produces sound, powerful movement.

YD (3, 1)

1 Turner's Quatros Iron Clad Buddy JW. Brdl/Wht, nice dog displaying good type and balance, his head is typical with good underjaw and dark eye, good front, straight and wide, behind the collar, he has a well sprung rib and a short coupling, good fore and aft angulation, moves out well.

2 Freeman & Davies' Kylestaff Moonlight Shadow At Windstaff JW. Blk/Brdl/wht standard sized exhibit in lovely coat, decent enough head shape but reluctant to use his ears, front is straight if a little tight in width, decent rear quarter and length of back, seemed a little reluctant to put in a shift today.

ND (4)

1 Jordan's Dazmarnic Know Wot I Mean. Red/Wht tidy dog, unplaced in the strongly contested Jnr class, he had enough virtue here to win, good strength for size and has obvious excellent pigmentation, lovely front, neat typical head with well set ears, balanced body profile with well developed quarters, liked his agile movement.

2 Shipp & Hammond's Hammystaff Hanky Panky With Idyllicstaff. Red/wht. Red lad with striking white blaze to his chest, his front is straight and his head typical and clean with good underjaw, well developed rib and strong rear quarters that product good movement and a well held profile, I found him to be a tad longer cast than first. Lovely condition.

3 Slattery's Dazmarnic Up For Trouble. Red with white, a more heavy set type than first and second, but not a cloddy dog by any means, nice head on him with dark mask to compliment, would like a cleaner front construction, he's well equipped behind the collar and moves out well.

PGD (13, 4)

1 Rees' Edgeworth Arturo. Blk/Brdl/Wht, a standard sized exhibit that carries lovely type and balance, he has enough strength and his nice fitting coat, shows his clean lines without exaggeration, neat well set ears and a true set front, he has good rib and coupling, well set on tail and powerfully developed rear that, when asked to, produces the sound movement that his construction would suggest he possess.

2 Gardner's Labrastaf Curious George. Blk/Brdl, a similar sized exhibit to first but slightly heavier set, his ear set is a little high but this cannot detract from his other virtues , strong head, good ratio's on profile, well developed quarters that propel him along nicely, holds his shape well, overall a smart package.

3 Hopkins' Trufflestaff Papinashuash JW. Brdl, fits the height standard well and balanced in profile, he's heavier set than first and second and not so clean in muzzle, but he produces a good performance when on the move showing good balance and a well held shape.

LD (8)

1 Mayren's Bellarouge Adonis At Fergiestaffs JW. Red & Wht typical exhibit, who cries type when viewed at any angle, loved his no non sense expression and true outlook of his competitors, clean head with well set ears, the cleanliness continues as the eye and hands continue over him, well off for rib, correctly coupled and well set on tail, presented in top order his movement here was sound and animated and he needed the performance to see off the challenge of the second placed exhibit. I really wanted to see him repeat it in the challenge but seemed a bit jaded.

2 Lewis' Biggleswick Splash Of Ginge. Red/Wht, another quality exhibit showing strength for size in a balanced package. His smart appearance is complimented by his rich coat colour and pigmentation, head is strong and typical, well ribbed and his rear quarters are of the highest development, good ratio's on profile, powerful sound movement, gleaming condition, on the day I preferred the overall package of first, but only just.

3 Payton's Tonpay Barmy Army JW. Brdl, top class shape and type to this lad, on his toes throughout, he's free from any exaggeration and is turned out in the peak of physical condition, typical and sound movement.

OD (12, 1)

1 Corcoran & O'Donovan's Molru Alright Dave Blk/Brdl. Super typical exhibit that screams Stafford at you which ever way you look at him, first thing that strikes you is his condition, his tight fitting shining jacket covering muscletone that you can see has been honed to perfection almost without laying hands on him. He is balanced in profile with correct length of leg to body ratio's, straight in front and both front and rear angulation are in unison, short coupled, correct top line and a well set on tail. When asked to move he once again is a picture of power in motion, maybe moved a little too quickly by his handler at times but there is no doubting his soundness. DCC & BOB shortlisted to last 6 in the group, well done.

2 Ryan's Ch Rubericla Black Starscream. Blk/Brdl, another very typical exhibit, I found him similar in profile to first, presented in top order also, strong headed although not quite matching the underjaw of first, straight front, again I liked his leg/body ratios, a topline which holds its shape on the move, his constructIon ensures that he's a sound mover, right up there with the best when he's animated. RCC.

3 Hedges & McBride's Brohez Rubin Hurricane (ai) (Imp). Blk/Brdl/Wht, a good standard sized exhibit carrying a lot of virtue, strength for size here again in evidence, good front, well angulated, thought him a tad longer coupled than first and second, sound mover when viewed either way.

GCD (1)

1 Mitchell & Ashton's Our Little Cracker Blue. Top of the height standard for this lad, pleasing head and carrying good bone and substance, a little narrow across his front, he was presented in top condition and moved out ok.

VB (4)

1 Hopkins' Ch Trufflestaff Monifa Kanika JW BV. Blk/Brdl standard sized exhibit with clean lines and balance all round, neat well set ears straight fronted, body proportions of the highest order, she retains her profile when moving freely around the ring, a pleasure to re-acquaint with her, one of the finest of the last decade of Staffords. BV.

2 Hirst & Bibby's Ch Taraiel Ciara JW ShCM. Another top quality lady fitting the standard superbly, strength for size, excellent in profile, true front, sound on the move as you'd expect, just lacking a little animation today.

3 Roberts' Denbright My Precious At Jamborob. Red with a lovely typical but "soft" Stafford expression, she has a good straight front and super coat condition, moved happily around the ring.

MPB (7)

1 Rogers' Berrystock Miss Spitfire. Blk/Brdl with a white flash on chest, quality youngster, straightest of fronts on her, nice size all round at this stage of her development, clean head and although at the head of this critique I said I wouldn't mention dentition, this exhibits are exemplary. Large well set canines with incissors large and squarely set to the jaw. Body wise she presents a pleasing picture with correct ratios and angulation, sound mover, BPB & BPIB.

2 Lee & Coleman's Berrystock Enigma Black. Blk/Brdl litter sister to first and cast in a similar vein, she is a tad taller than her litter mate and doesn't quite match her for rib, that aside, the type and attributes are pretty similar and I'm sure they'll be battling it out together as they mature through the classes, once she settled she produced sound movement.

3 BLanch Calonge's Diamonds Of Blanch Lady Thunder. Blk/Brdl/Wht. A stronger cast type to first and second, but not overdone, decent head lacking a little underjaw, nice profile and proportions about her make her nicely balanced, one who was a bit too keen on the handlers bait when asked to move.

PB (1)

1 Fisher's Samtan Welsh Potion. Brdl/wht, a little excitable in the warming sun today, neat head with clean muzzle, straight in front, she possess good rib, decent profile side on and her rear is well angulated, well set on tail, she moves ok when she settles.

B (7, 2)

A super class of young ladies.

1 Ryan's Rubericla Little Elita One. Blk/Brdl. Super smart looking exhibit, strength with femininity, clean lines and carrying great type, straight fronted, lovely head shape, liked the correlation between front and rear when side movement viewed with good leg length/body ratio, top line is good and also carried well, showed me enough animation when I asked her to move in the challenge. RCC.

2 Branten & Branten Simons' Sennyards Everybody Likes You. Blk/Brdl/Wht. Similarly cast to first, just losing out on eye shape, great ear set on a lovely shaped head, has lovely clean lines, super front, good angulation front and rear, sound mover presented in top condition.

3 Southall's Beckash Black Ice. Blk/Brdl, smart again here, typey exhibit of good quality, lost out to first and second with a slightly high ear set and slightly less rib, that said, she's soundly angulated front and rear and paints a decent picture on the move.

YB (9, 1)

1 Branten & Branten Simons' Sennyards Love Yourself. Blk/Brdl, strongly presented exhibit with typical expression and good all round virtue. Strong head and decent ears when she uses them to her advantage, her front is true and angulated well, enough rib and powerful rear, good profile ratios, produced a picture of strength for size when moving.

2 Janssen's Dutch Dutch/Ger Earthquake Staffs Icehot JW Jun Ch. Wht/Red, liked this very typical exhibit, lovely head complemented with a well placed dark eye, her body profile is kind on the eye also with good leg to body ratio, not quite the power in the rear as first, but sound on the move too. Topline and profile holds well.

3 Scotland's Callastaff Moon River. Brdl/Blk, compact exhibit of good balance and conformation on profile, would like a tad more length of muzzle to her head which is strong but feminine, sound powerfull mover presented in good order.

NB (2)

1 Mayren's Joemikeste Queen Of The Nile At Fergiestaffs. Red/Wht, liked her overall balance, to my mind a little more rib would complete her picture, but has time on her side, head is typical, neat and clean lipped with tidy ear set. Moved out well.

2 Thomas' Sunnystone Bit Of Brimstone. Blk/Brdl, cobby exhibit with strong head, well sprung rib, and well developed rear quarters, cracking coat condition, lacked a little bit of animation when asked to move.

PGB (10, 5)

1 Hillman's Carandstaff Jean Genie. Blk/Brdl Nice exhibit carrying a desired type, lovely head shape, smart and clean with correct eye and ear placement, front is true and set wide, she has good rib, her depth of body to leg length ratio is good, well developed rear with correct angulation, moved well, won the class with some to spare, handler needs to believe in her more, tidy exhibit.

2 Robinson, Robinson-Cox & Cox's Studstaff Sugar And Spice Of Hamason JW ShCM. Red/ Wht of a similar size and shape to first, typical in head and front construction, would benefit from better conditioning which would help with a lack of animation shown when asked to move.

3 Buchan's Happystaff Could It Be Magic. Blk/Brdl, decent head to her, she is compact in profile and looks to be balanced, a better rib would enhance her overall picture as would conditioning.

LB (12)

A difficult class of varying type.

1 McKimm's Biggleswick Fifty Fifty JW. Red/Wht. Liked the clean, balanced picture this girl portrayed when being assessed. Super head and under jaw with sharp lines to lips, stop and ear set, a dark eye complements too and has a desired out look to life. Her well fitting coat outlines her superb conditioning, she has just enough bone to her, and her profile ratios are good. Moves out soundly.

2 Payton's Tonpay Anythin Could Happen. Brdl/Wht. A stronger type than first, she is at the top of the height standard, I would suggest, but is well balanced. Her head is clean cut too, front is true and straight, well ribbed, liked her topline and well set on tail, she is in the peak of physical condition, moves powerfully and typically, the sort of bitch you'd want in your breeding programme for sure.

3 Yates, Tune & Cund's Tusslestaff Black Diamond At Chelmbull. Blk/Brdl, she's finer cut than first and second and on first inspection maybe a little "light" for my interpretation, but on individual appraisal you get to see her virtue a plenty. Cleanest of lines on profile, balance and poise on the move, with a typical gait.

OB (10, 1)

1 Byrne & Gartland's Ch Carandstaff Moondance JW. Blk/Brdl/Wht, a fine example of a Stafford bitch, she has that desired attribute of strength for size, but there is no coarseness or masculinity about her in anyway, loved her head shape with well set ears helping to create a very typical look from front on, lovely side profile with correct leg/body ratio, good rib and a level topline, when asked to move, she does so powerfully and true, carrying a sharp, "on the ball" expression at all times, presented to me in top order. BCC.

2 Branten & Branten Simons' Ch Ned Sennyards Love At First Sight Jun Ch. Blk/Brdl, a powerful exhibit nearing the upper of the height standard, I found her to have a typical but slightly harder expression to first, a rounder eye shape would soften, behind her collar her body is of a powerful exhibit with rear quarters and double thigh decent rib, correctly angulated, a little longer cast than first but a quality exhibit through and through.

3 Winwood & Tunnah's Nerotoro Stella JW. Blk/Brd/Wht. Another top quality exhibit with much to admire, great strength for size and again no exaggerations, presented in top order with gleaming coat, moved a little erratically at first but soundly and well when settled, nice exhibit.
