STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE SOUTHERN COUNTIES 19

Firstly I’d like to thank you all for bringing your dogs for me to see and accepting my decisions sportingly as I would expect from the Stafford community. I’d also like to thank SCCA for the invitation, albeit as a replacement for judge elect Jim Beaufoy and I hope Jim is soon returned to full health. We were provided with a large ring giving ample space to show off the dog’s movement. My stewards Alan Hard and Tec kept the ring running like clockwork - again thank you. Staffords are just the best breed and all accepted their role as a show dog with varying degrees of enthusiasm but temperament was first rate by all exhibits as I would expect. The breed is on Breed Watch by the KC for inverted canines of which there were none and for breathing difficulties and I can only query this as on a hot sunny day there was no evidence whatsoever of any dog so much as panting any more than would be considered normal let alone breathing heavily

MPD

1 Moore’s Chedenstaff Devil Star – at 9 months still very much a puppy - just as it should be. A bl/br dog showing a good length of leg to balance with the length of back and depth of brisket. Scored on the length and strength of his muzzle and a skull that is already showing the desired width and depth but he needs to grow into those ears. Movement was good for a puppy.

2 Desmond’s Elitebull Charger - a much stronger black brindle whose development belies his tender years. His head is deep through with well placed, dark eyes and the neatest of rose ears but for me just too short in the muzzle. He is soundly constructed with a strong well boned front and quarters to match hence a soundly moving dog but his topline on the move needs to tighten.

PD

1 Riley’s Hatson Come On Thunder - not the biggest of lads but he has a smashing head and expression enhanced by neat, small rose ears and the darkest of round eyes. His body is close coupled with a wide front set on well boned legs and correct tight feet. Hope he gains more confidence on the move as he gets older. BPD

JD

1 Johnson’s Ellchansha Hotshot - this boy really catches the eye - he’s a fine upstanding bl/br with the best of heads - wide and deep through with forward facing, round, dark eyes set of by his well placed and well used small rose ears. Loved his well boned straight front which showed no looseness at the elbow. He strode out well round the ring and I’m sure will trouble the best as he matures and ribs up.

2 Manghan’s Diamondstaff Wee Mac - Another bl/br that has assets by the bucket load, who moved freely round the ring scoring heavily on his topline which was kept throughout. He is soundly made with front and back angulations in harmony. A size down from my first place but balanced throughout with a typical head and good expression.

3 Murray Reid’s Paddy O’Shea - this is a strong dog who is well off for bone and has a strong backend. He has a strong head and moved ok when settled.

YD

A great class this one - I think all my placings are top class dogs so had to nit pick between them but they have much to offer the breed.

1 Page’s Assilio Lisbon Lion, I was very taken with this fine upstanding red dog. A good fronted dog with plenty of leg in balance with the width of his front and length of his back. He scored on his free, active movement, maintaining a level topline throughout. He has good depth to his body and I’m sure he will rib up with age. He has an alert expression which draws you to him and says - look at me - I’m here and he was close up in the challenge.

2 Gough’s Manark Made To Measure - a slightly stronger red dog who I’ve admired from a distance. He has ample bone which shows in his straight front with good width and well placed shoulders. His body is well developed producing a pleasing picture from all angles aided by a strong backend. Movement - what can I say - sound in bits springs to mind as most of the time he spent looking and jumping for those crows flying above! Loved his attitude and I hope he catches one someday.

3 Funnell & Wiggins’ Powerpack Kilgobnet - a fine upstanding black brindle who is sound as a pound with a lovely outline and an alert, typical expression. He has a straight, well boned front and quarters to match. He had the length in muzzle and strength in under jaw that I was looking for and on another day all 5 dogs will change places many times.

GD

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Soulja Boy - a bl/br who really caught the eye. I really liked him. He’s got the best of faces with correctly placed round, dark eyes set off by the neatest of rose ears. He has a correct wide front showing no looseness at his elbows and the bend of stifle to match leading to good movement. His body is well ribbed and close coupled.

2 Thomas’ Sunnystone Limited Edition - a cobby brindle dog with ample bone and a close coupled body with a sturdy backend to match. He has a strong head but tends to fly his ears.

PGD 1 Harris’ Illori Azizi - this dark brindle dog scored on his length, strength and cleanness of his foreface - no lippyness here. He has dark eyes producing a pleasing expression. He is true in front and has ample rib and depth of brisket in line with his elbows all stood on tight feet. 2 Wilson’s Northstaff Notorious - thought this dog had been polished with Mr Sheen - he just glistened in the sunlight. He is well boned and short coupled with a straight front which is just wide enough. He is handled expertly to show off his virtues. 3 Devlin’s Tightlines Dusty’s Trail - this is some big red lad but he is soundly made with bone in abundance.

LD

This was certainly a class and a half with many top, top class dogs.

1 Johnson’s Tillcarr Fire Coanda - coming out on top was this standard sized, top class bl/br. Anyone looking for a sound, good moving Stafford take a look at this lad. He has the best of fronts showing leg length and chest width in balance with depth of brisket. His backend is strongly made with good bend of stifle and well developed hams. He moves out well but more animation would complete the picture. He has a typical headpiece deep through with neat ears and correct eye placement but lost out in the challenge to dogs with more length of muzzle.

2 Rowbotham’s Elitebull Black And Brass - coming in a close second was this striking bl/br. He has the best of heads with a clean foreface showing good length and depth to his muzzle and no lippiness and in balance with his skull. He has neat rose ears but darker eyes would complete the picture. Bodily he has ample bone producing a straight front with no looseness at the elbow and a strong powerful backend producing drive on the move.

3 Woodward’s Powerpack A Tisket A Tasket - another of those bl/br who looks balanced from all directions. He has enough length to his muzzle to produce a pleasing picture and balance with his skull enhanced by great eye placement. He exudes class and breed type.

OD

1 Desmond’s Ch Elitebulls Challenger - what can I say - I just love this dog. He is top notch from head to tail. He has an outline just to die for and all parts are blended together to produce a picture of perfect soundness and balance exhibited in his free active, agile movement. Now for that head - where to start - wide and deep through with round dark eyes showing a keen, alert expression aided by well used, neat rose ears and all offset by a strong muzzle with adequate length and depth. A dog with no excess flesh, a short close fitting coat and muscles on his muscles. He is the dogs do dahs but wish he’d keep that tail down.

2 Allsopp’s Ch Rubericla Trailbreaker, another smashing example of our breed who’ll always be in the running. He’s beautifully balanced with a true straight front stemming from well laid shoulders and good width across his fore-chest. He is the owner of a great shaped headpiece set off by the neatest of ears. Today he seemed to be missing his dad and was a fidget for his handler but his virtues are obvious to all.

3 Mayren’s Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs - a strong red dog with ample bone and good width in front. He is close coupled with a great spring of rib all in balance with a powerful rear. He moved well today and held his outline throughout. He has a pleasing headpiece with depth and strength and no sign of loose flesh.

Sp Beginners D

1 Harris’ Illori Azizi.

2 Moore’s Chedenstaff Devil Star.

3r Mitchell & Ashton’s Our Little Cracker - a topsized blue dog, he shows good balance throughout verified in his movement. He’s starting to show his age now but still has what could be termed as an old fashioned head shape which works for me with good length and strength of muzzle.

Vet

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Ch Taraiel Ciara - only one here and a girl to be so proud of. I judged her as a youngster and must say she’s like fine wine and at 9 years old gets better all the time. I’ve always loved her face and time and a few grey hairs have all added to her attraction even if she wants to pull a face and not co-operate with her handler. Caught off guard with her ears up and there aren’t many with a better expression. Pleased to say that she went second in the Veteran Group

Good Citizen

1 Rowe & South’s Illori Akinlana - boy did he stand out in the final line up - well enough for him to be awarded the RCC. He has a great outline with good lift in balance with the width across his shoulders and length of back. He is close coupled with adequate rib and a good bend of stifle all of which produce a typy balanced dog. I loved his head and wicked expression but not sure about the Good Citizen bit as he was an unruly customer in close up with the rest of his contemporaries. Excelled on the move as he should with his construction.

2 Woodward’s Powerpack A Tisket A Tasket.

3 Harris’ Illori Azizi.

MPB

1 Wilson’s Elitebull Elysian Dream at Kalverin - what a beauty to start off the bitches. She has the best of fronts with enough width, lift and bone stemming from well laid shoulders and finished off on tight feet. Bodily she is at the right stage for her age and already has a powerful backend. She is a confident girl with a ring presence that belies her tender years. I just loved her face, so pretty with the sweetest of expressions yet a look of innocence all hiding a set of the biggest white teeth. Had no hesitation in awarding her the RCC and wish she was mine.

2 Hands & Freeman’s Gazstaffs Black Velvet - here we have another cracking looking puppy. Bl/br with a true straight front and the right amount of bone for her build. She scores heavily on her well developed spring of rib - all of her attributes on the move are propelled by her powerful rear quarters. When her ears settle her pretty face will be enhanced no end.

PB

1 Stanway’s Waystaff Honeymoon - really appreciated the all round clean lines of this pretty red girl. There is not an ounce of surplus flesh on her. She has a most attractive head with her muzzle length in full harmony with her skull and housing a set of the largest of pearly white gnashers and the tightest of lips. Her front is straight and she had a lovely level topline throughout.

2 Waltham, Bryant & Carter’s Shortyrocks Faith Trust And Pixie Dust - a more stocky red puppy with ample bone and showing a good wide front set on straight legs but feet need to tighten. She has such a pretty face with great eye placement and a strong short neck set on well laid shoulders. Her body is close coupled with a good spring of rib.

3 Canavan’s Boldstock Whos Bovered Now - a dark brindle who has the head and expression many of us are aiming for. She has a strong wide front and a good bend of stifle with good muscle development.

JB

1 Raynsford & Stevens’ Raynstaff Dark And Stormy - must say I was very taken with this Bl/br. She has great balance throughout with all bits blending together to make such a lovely outline. Her face is so clean, set off by the darkest of round, correctly sized and placed eyes and enhanced by neat well used rose ears. Bodily she scores heavily on the right amount of bone in her straight front and elbows that are tucked into her well ribbed body. She strode round the ring like a good ‘un and was my Best Junior and went on to third place in the Terrier Junior Group.

2 Johnson’s Ellchansha Once Upon A Time - a very close decision here as this is also a cracker. She has the best of fronts and the best of feminine headpieces - wide and deep through with good length to her muzzle and a strong under jaw along with her dark round eyes all produce a soft expression. Her movement was a treat to watch and she’s a bitch that will trouble all comers as she matures further.

3 Harris’ Annemstaffs Black Beauty, another one who’s on the road to greatness and so unlucky to be up against the above two girls. She is sound and exudes breed type by the bucket load with a good spring of rib. Just feel she needs more confidence on the move to show off her virtues to best advantage.

YB

1 Mastikova’s Daintydiamond’s All Time High - not the biggest of girls but all the bits are there in bucket loads and combine to make a bitch who says loud and clear - I’m all Stafford and they all come together to produce a balanced outline. She has the expression I was searching for with nothing overdone and as clean as a whistle with an alert look about her. Her front and back angulations are true and this leads to sound purposeful movement round the ring.

2 Funnell’s Powerpack Alura Finvarra - a size up here but a bitch well within the standard and fitting the height weight ratio to a tee. She has a foreface of good length and depth in the correct ratio to her skull. She stands proudly on well boned front legs showing a good width with no looseness at her elbows. She is well ribbed but slightly longer cast than the winner.

3 Miller’s Skyland Ontario - this girl has a pleasing headshape leading to a good expression and has clean lips and neat rose ears. Just feel her front needs to tighten.

GB

1 Hopkins’ Raspberry Ripple of Spirit-Staff’s to Trufflestaff - a typy, red girl with a black mask that sets off her pretty face very well. She has good eye placement and soft, dark, round eyes all leading to a typical Stafford bitch face. Her front is straight and well boned and matches her rear angulation. All in all a good sound bitch who was unlucky to encounter such a strong junior class.

PGB

1 Gardner’s Ballindona Fab’U’Lus - a dark brindle who excelled in her great spring of rib and her front set on well boned legs. She has a pretty face and must admit I was struck by her large open nostrils and just the biggest set of white teeth, both so needed in the breed.

2 Mitchell & Ashton’s Blooming Lovely - not a big girl but she is so pretty and not overdone in any way. There is no loose flesh in evidence on any bit of her. Her face is as clean and her muzzle and skull are in the correct ratios. Bodily she is soundly put together which gives her a balanced outline and hence true movement.

3 Lloyd’s Blue Phantom Shadow - a much heavier built blue girl with ample bone on her straight front and a close coupled body with good spring of rib. Heavy lips tend to detract from her face.

LB

What a class - my first thought was - oh no - all the bitches I’ve long thought the tops all appearing in this one class.

1 Rowe & South’s Illori Believe In Me - this girl is topsize but fits the height weight ratio and I just love her. She has the face I was looking for with strength and yet retaining her femininity for all to see. She has the best of fronts which is in perfect balance with her strong well constructed rear leading to agile, active movement covering the ground with long easy strides. Her body is close coupled with length of back balanced to length of leg and depth of brisket. A well deserved CC was hers for the taking - thank you for bringing her.

2 Waltham’s Dringshaw Boule De Neige - another I’ve loved from a puppy. Her ring presence and attitude to life are a joy to behold. She is an all white bitch with the best of heads and expressions enhanced by coal black, round eyes of correct size and correctly placed to look straight at you. She has the best of powerful backends with stifles well bent and chunky well muscled hams. I’d like tighter feet but she sure is a bitch to be proud of.

3 Mayren’s Joemikeste Queen Of The Nile at Fergiestaffs - my best puppy last time and I’m pleased at the way she’s developed into such a great looking Stafford. She’s red and white with the cleanest of heads and no hint of lippiness covering a fine set of teeth. From her front through to her rear all bits fit together in unison to make for a sound bitch with a great outline.

OB

1 Butler’s Joemikeste Play The Game - if ever there was a bitch destined for top honours this is her and if ever there was one destined to give her handler a torrid time she’s here as well - keeping 4 feet on the ground is hard work. She’s a bl/br with a wicked expression stemming from her dark, round eyes that look straight ahead. Her strong neck of correct length leads to well placed shoulders set on straight, well boned legs of correct length and in balance with width of chest, length of back and depth of brisket. Her ribs are well sprung and her jacket is close fitting with no hint of excess flesh on any bit of her. A great champion

2 Stanway’s Stormfire Crack The Code at Waystaff - this red and white is the soundest of bitches with the best of fronts showing no looseness at her elbows and in harmony with her rear quarters. She has a pretty face showing the correct ratio between skull and muzzle but her ears tend to distract. She moved ok today and has the best of toplines that is maintained both stacked and on the move.

3 Mann’s Nerotoro Cosmic Girl - a really attractive bl/br who has a balanced outline and is brimming with breed type. She is soundly built and looks good from all angles. She scores heavily on her beautiful face and sweet expression.

Sp Beginners B

1 Mitchell & Ashton’s Blooming Lovely awarded the Best Special Beginners in Breed, in the absence of the winning Dog.

2 Turner’s On The Hill Two at Tidestaff, a strongly built brindle with good rib development. Her head is clean with tight lips and a good length of muzzle in balance with her headpiece.
