STAFFORDSHIRE BULL SOUTHERN COUNTIES 12 Judge(s): MR GEORGE EARLE Staffordshire Bull Terriers Things have changed little since I last judged in the UK a little over two years ago. Still a large number of exhibits with very poor movement. Still a number, although quite a small percentage, of misplaced canines. (The Kennel Club tell judges of all breeds at the pre-Crufts briefing that dogs with misplaced canines must not be placed whenever they judge). Still there are an increasing number of sloping croups which change Staffords almost beyond recognition. MPD (5) 1 Hart’s Albermarbull Red Riot, very well put together 8 months red puppy, well proportioned skull, defined stop, dark eye, good teeth, good forehand , short level back, good depth of body, rearquarters developing well, moved well. In good condition. BPD; 2 Hopkins’ Truffelstaff Kichro Yuzuki, well grown b/br puppy, 8 months, good head shape & depth, good dentition, nice dark eye, short neck, very good front legs & feet, deep well developed body, good topline, movement OK. Not the bend of stifle of 1; 3 Thisby’s Dogumentary’s Thunder. PD (5) 1 Butler’s Torostaff Our Billy, very good b/br/w, mature for age, good size, good head shape, nice dark eye, distinct stop, well sprung ribs, short coupling, strong rearquarters, moved well; 2 Savage’s Oscellsie’s Chilli Pepper, powerful red puppy, good head, good front legs & feet, well ribbed, short coupled, moved OK. Did not carry topline of 1; 3 Harris’ Burlington Bullseye. JD (9) 1 Muir & Quinn’s Diamonds Of Blanch Rium Black Steel, well balanced quality bl/br dog, very good head, dark eye, good dentition, distinct stop, strong muzzle. Short strong neck, good shoulders & front, body developing well, short coupled, strong rearquarters, moved & handled well; 2 Cramer’s Staffstyle Eskimo Pride, nice junior in good condition, good head shape, dark eye, good forehand, strong deep body & good rearquarters, moved & handled well. Does not have the muzzle of 1; 3 Choma & Matviakova’s Satip Sorbos. YD (8) 1 Speed’s Speediestaff Black Velvet, good sized, well balanced bl/br, starting to mature well, good head shape with neat ears, dark eye, distinct stop, good dentition. Strong neck, good front, deep brisket with enough spring of rib, good tuck-up, powerful rearquarters with good bend of stifle that allowed him to move very well; 2 Fairhurst’s Fairlenium’s Snow Patrol, standard well balanced pied, with pleasing head shape, dark eyes, good forehand, well ribbed, good free movement, close decision with 1; 3 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Granitangel Supergiant. GD (5) 1 S Eskimo Pride; 2 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Granitangel Supergiant, bl/br/w dog, good head, front, body & movement. All the attributes but longer than 1; 3 Legate’s Kippastaff Bossy Blue. PGD (5) 1 Dearman’s Blazinstaff Sacrifice, strong, upstanding, r/w with well balanced head, deep stop, neat ears, dark eye, good spring of rib with deep enough brisket, short coupling, strong rearquarters, moved well; 2 Bruton’s Zacstaff Black Knight, b/br, nicely within the Standard, with very good head & super expression, straight front, well developed muscular body, level topline, strong enough rearquarters. Did not move well; 3 Daly & Lees’ Michenil Magical Midnight. LD (17) 1 Meara & Millgate’s Ramblestaff Solo Eclipse at Millamear, strong, well put together, compact b/br, nicely proportioned head with correct ratios, deep skull, neat ears, strong neck, good forehand, strong short body that is just about deep enough, short coupling, & well developed rearquarters, moved well, handler held dogs head too high, stretching his neck & spoiling his profile. However one I liked; 2 Cramer’s Roughnecks Crusader for Inshaig, strong compact red dog, similar type to 1, of good shape & make with nicely proportioned head, neat ears, dark eyes, strong muzzle, good front with plenty of bone, well laid shoulders, strong deep body, short coupled, & powerful rearquarters, moved well. Not quite the head of 1; 3 Bruton’s Zakstaff Black Baron. OD (17) 1 Dowse’s Ch Rotherstaff Black Tie, good sized b/br. It is four years since I last judged this dog & made him BMPD at his first show. Among what proved to be some notable company. Though only a few days over 6 months, his quality showed. Even then his movement was difficult to assess as he was boisterous to say the least, so it is pleasing that three other judges were patient enough to give that minute longer for accurate assessment, very good strong head, deep skull, deep stop, good dentition, tight lips, broad muzzle, dark eyes & neat ears, good well laid shoulders, well boned front legs with strong tight feet, well sprung ribs with good deep brisket, level topline, powerful rearquarters enabling him to move soundly & purposefully. In very good condition today. DCC & BOB; 2 Marlow’s Ch Briganah New Moon, very well put together b/br, good, well proportioned head type with well defined stop, dark eyes, & strong muzzle, good front, plenty of bone, short strong neck, deep body, level topline, short coupling, being well let down at the hock with good bend of stifle, allowed him to move with power & drive. RDCC; 3 Dewar’s Euphemia Drummer Boy. V (3) 1 Hopkins’ Hippy Chick, almost 10 years, red bitch in first class condition, good shape & make, good head type with strong enough muzzle, strong body, good rearquarters, moved very well; 2 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Granitangel Solar Flare, strong 7 years, r/w bitch that does not look her age, good head & dentition, muscular body, & moved well. GC (3) 1 Thomson’s Kiamirose Bossin Motion at Siriusstaff, nice sized b/br, well shaped head with dark eyes, well defined stop, good dentition, good straight front legs although I would like to see a little more bone, well developed body, level topline, strong enough rearquarters, moved well; 2 Robbins’ Antroboss In The Red with Jakataffs, red dog of similar size to 1, good head, strong muzzle, dark eyes, good forehand, muscular body, longer in coupling than 1, moved OK; 3 Rowe & South’s Oscellsie’s Toffee Truffle. MPB (4) 1 Gold’s Ashbull Ofee, well grown 8 months, b/br, nice head & front, body developing well, rearquarters very good for age, moved well; 2 Davies’ Braunstaff Cannock Charmer, 8 months, brindle with nice head & expression, front developing well, moved OK, does not yet have the body development of 1. PB (3) 1 Wollett’s Manark Miss Meadow, promising light brindle of almost 12 months, strong but feminine head, dark eyes, good big teeth, & strong muzzle, good front, body developing well, rearquarters well developed for age. In good condition, moved well; 2 Rose’s Baysend Be Quick at Buddastaff, nice 11 months, r/w bitch with good head & front, body & rearquarters developing well, carrying rather too much weight for the show ring. YB (5) 1 Sem & Ullaflaen’s Celunas Do Wah Diddy, b/br, of good shape & make, good head type not too short in muzzle, dark eyes & well carried ears giving good expression, good dentition, good forehand with enough bone, very good depth of brisket, good topline, just a little long in the loin, moved & handled well; 2 Hart’s Albermarbull Fire ‘n Ice, r/w with good head, very good body, correct front, nice topline, good rearquarters, in good condition, moved well. Just a little longer than 1; 3 Yarham’s Endladian My Obsession. GB (6) 1 Meara & Millgate’s Sabahouse Black Bedevil at Millamear, good type of b/br, strong yet feminine head, neat ears, correct front, short compact body, good rearquarters, moved well; 2 Wall & Webb’s Hammystaff Hot To Trot for Manark, strong r/w with good head, dark eyes, good teeth, short strong neck, body needs to develop more. One I liked; 2 Csikos & Farkas’ Devils And Fairies Glamis, somewhat bigger b/br, good head shape, neat ears, good dentition, nice front, good topline. Thick in loin so lacked definition, somewhat bigger but less bone than 1. Moved well; 3 Draper’s Herodotus Well Lush. LB (16) 1 Coble’s Surestaff Valentina, well balanced b/br of the highest quality, superb head type yet maintaining femininity, good depth of skull, strong foreface, scissor bite, round dark eye & neat ears giving a wonderful expression, short strong neck, well laid shoulders, well boned front legs on neat feet, well developed body, short coupling & powerful rearquarters, are topped by a level topline held well on the move. First class sound movement & in very good condition. BCC; 2 Norton’s Pendlestaff Brindle Babe of Tikkurilan, 16 months, b/br of good shape & make, very good head type with well defined stop, dark eyes & neat ears, good front with plenty of bone, short strong neck, deep brisket & level topline. When viewed in profile she lacks body mass, but this is due to her age. With rather more time to rib up, or perhaps some puppies, we will I am sure see her true potential. Moved well; 3 Stanway & McCulloch’s Waystaff Sea The Stars. OB (13) 1 Funnell’s Kewaunee Pocahontas for Powerpack, very nice b/br of quality, strong yet feminine well proportioned head with dark eyes & neat ears, good dentition, & nice expression, good front, enough rib, & good deep brisket. She seemed to be very excited & was somewhat erratic when moving; 3 Exton’s Constones Padme. GEORGE EARLE |
