STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE SKC OCTOBER 23

I would like to say a big thank you to the SKC for their invitation to judge and to my stewards for doing a super job by keeping my ring running smoothly. Most of all my thanks go to the exhibitors for their entry and the sporting manner they accepted my decisions.

MPD (4)

1 Sinclair & Hayward’s Glenskyra Lomond Lad. Standard size dark brindle who is just over 6 months. Lovely head shape with clean foreface housing a scissor bite. Good strength to muzzle and underjaw. Correct skull to muzzle ratio. He has a keen expression and he made good use of his ears as well. Eyes could be darker but the size and shape are good. He is nicely balanced with good bone. Front is straight with strong pasterns and neat feet. Enough rib and brisket development at this stage. Holds his topline on the move. This young handler and his charge need more training but I am sure when they get their act together they will have some good times ahead. BPD.

2 Johnson’s Tillcarr Fire Soldier. Another nice standard size pup of 7 months. Bl/br whose head is of good proportions with a blocky muzzle. Dentition is correct. He has a distinct stop and dark round eyes. Neatest of ears which enhance his expression. Body developing nicely. Works well with his handler. Strode out covering the ground well. Seemed to be enjoying his time in the ring. Should have a bright future, good luck with him. Just preferred the extra bit of lift that the winner has at the moment, but everything can change and probably will.

3 Watson’s Dringshaw Masterpiece.

PD (5)

1 Lloyd’s Kalostaff Es Lo Que Es. 10 months old bl/br. Lovely headpiece with strong muzzle and correct dentition, would prefer a slightly cleaner muzzle. Good eye shape and neat ears. Nice width of chest and straight limbs. Feet are well padded with black nails. Neck is firm and short leading to a well laid shoulder. Brisket to elbow which has no looseness. Good rib tapering to the loin. Level topline and good angulation to back end with firm first and second thighs. Finished off with correct tailset and moved nicely both ways.

2 Mayren’s Fergiestaffs Polar Bear. White/red pied dog just over 10 months. This lad is in good condition for his age. Clean headpiece with correct bite. Dark eyes and neat ears. Good strength of muzzle. His front is well boned and he has enough width of chest. He has enough rib and brisket at this stage of his development. He is close coupled and his well toned hindquarters enabled him to cover the ground well. Moved ok especially behind. Tail carriage spoilt the outline for me on the move.

3 Miller’s Skyland Imperial JW.

JD (4)

1 Chambers’ Kamaristaffs Royal Rascal. Top sized bl/br dog who excels in head properties. Clean muzzle and correct bite with big canines. Well placed dark eyes and neatest of ears which sit well on the skull. Black nose with open nares. Straightest of fronts, which is well boned and he has tight well padded feet. Good width of chest and depth of brisket. Well sprung rib and good bend of stifle. Topline ok, would prefer a little less slope off at the croup. Handler needs to work at getting the speed right on the move as he has a tendency to pace.

2 Carr’s Tropical Red Rum at Almostaffs. Red with black mask. Good shape to head with correct mouth. Distinct stop and strong underjaw. Another with open nares. Neat enough ears and round eyes which you would prefer slightly darker but are still in relation to coat colour. Enough rib and brisket with good width of chest. He has great pigmentation, is close coupled and has enough bend of stifle. Moved ok. Handled well. Preferred the headpiece of 1st.

3 McVay & Hughes’ Torkavi Night Fury.

YD (5,1)

1 Taylor’s Waystaff Strikes First. Red/white dog of substance. Good head shape, strong muzzle and correct mouth. He has well placed rose ears although a little heavier than 2nd. Strong boned, straight front on well padded feet. Super spring of rib giving plenty of heart room and brisket of correct depth. Level topline and good bend of stifle. Moved with economy of effort holding his topline. In super condition. His expression didn’t do it for me but won the class on his other good points.

2 Lowe & Kaur-Hayre’s Big Man On Mac Dui Shawrigg JW. Another strong red/white dog of substance. Correct skull to muzzle ratio. Head is deep through with well developed cheek muscles. Dark eyes and neat thin ears. Strong muzzle holding a correct scissor bite. Strong bodied with good rib and brisket. Well boned front with ample width of chest. He has strong rear quarters and moved with drive. Just preferred the front angulation of the winner.

3 Kirk’s Kirstaff The First Avenger JW.

PGD (5,1)

1 Wilson’s Northstaff Nightmare JW. Bl/br in fit condition. Lovely head shape, strong muzzle with good mouth. Neatest of ears, dark eyes and well developed cheek muscles. Would like a keener expression as he tends to look unimpressed. He has ample width of chest and an excellent front with good feet and strong pasterns. His neck is strong which flows into a level topline. Good shoulder placement and enough bend of stifle. He is close coupled and his back end is firm and well toned. Coat is short and in gleaming condition. Moved well.

2 Wilson & Rodgers’ Beinn A Bhuird with Azzgem. Strong red/white with black mask. Masculine head which is deep through, correct skull to muzzle ratio with distinct stop. Ears sit well and he has dark eyes. He has a well boned front which is straight with strong pasterns on neat feet. Muscular neck leading to a well laid shoulder. Good rib and brisket with ample width to chest. Good rear angulation and powerful rear quarters which propelled him across the ring. Handled well. Would have preferred a slightly better eye shape/size which I feel would have improved his expression. Very sound dog.

3 Yates’ Zakdan Devious Devil JW.

LD (9,3)

1 Jones’ Kamaristaffs Royal Rumour JW. 15 months old bl/br in gleaming coat condition. Strong and well boned top sized male with neat ears. Clean muzzle of correct ratio to skull, which housed correct dentition. He has a strong neck leading to a well laid shoulder. Strong pasterns and neat feet on well boned limbs. Good rib and brisket. Close coupled with defined waist. Moved well with a level topline and good tail carriage. Considered for the RCC but he wasn’t able to compete in the fitness stakes with my more mature RCC dog winner today, but he has time on his side and this should only improve as he matures. Good luck with him.

2 Reynolds’ Niatona Wreck It Ralph. Standard size red/white dog. Lovely head which is deep through and of correct proportions. Nice expression with correct ear placement which frame his face, dark enough eyes and good strength of muzzle. Good dentition. Strong bodied with good depth of brisket and spring of rib. Strong first and second thighs which powered him up the ring holding his topline. The keener expression and slightly better bend of stifle of 1st just swung my decision and he had to settle for 2nd place today.

3 Harper & Whittaker’s Bethaleese’s Poldark.

OD (4)

1 Arntzen’s Catstaff’s Soul Rebel (Nor). This lad was my star of the day. Bl/br of quality who l have judged previously abroad. Super head and expression with the neatest of ears which he used constantly. Correct skull to muzzle ratio which was clean and housed excellent dentition. Straight limbs with the right amount of bone to balance. Neatest of feet which were well padded. Enough width to front and depth of brisket. Strong neck leading to a well laid shoulder. He has good depth and spring to his rib leading to a well defined loin. Correct angulation front and rear. His muscular hindquarters powered him up the ring. Moved parallel fore and aft holding his topline at all times. Looked great from all angles. He was alert and up on his toes every time I looked his way, demanding my attention. No hesitation awarding him the CC, his 3rd giving him his title. Congratulations. DCC & BOB.

2 Arntzen & Manito’s Ch Catstaff’s Used To (Nor). Well what can be said about this well worthy champion that hasn’t been said before! I feel like I’ll be repeating what others have said but here goes: Compact bl/br in super condition. Bang in standard. Well proportioned head with pronounced cheek muscles. Neat ears which he used well. Straight front, well boned and neat padded feet. Rib well sprung leading to a defined loin. Lovely profile. Good bend of stifle and muscular rear quarters. Moved with drive. Preferred the expression of 1st but all his other virtues bagged him the DRCC.

3 I’Anson’s Ch Cludenstaff I Will Follow.

VD (1)

1 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Papinashuash JW. Brindle dog of standard size. His greying face is of good proportions. Little reluctant to use his ears which are thin and sit well. He has straight well boned limbs on neat feet. Short neck leading to a level topline which he held on the move. Ample rib and correct drop to brisket. Carrying a little excess weight which I can forgive this old boy for, but he does still have good muscle tone to rear quarters. Moved ok. BVIB.

SBD (3)

1 Irvine’s Ashstaff Marshal Of Fire. Top size bl/br with clean head. Nice expression with dark round eyes and neat ears. Muzzle strong housing correct bite. Straight front with good feet and bone. Good rib and correct depth to brisket. Level topline stood and on the move. Rear quarters well toned with adequate bend of stifle. Moved ok. Handled well.

2 Cychol’s Kylestaff The Hitman. Standard bl/br, a tad smaller in stature than 1st. Decent head shape and expression. Good depth of brisket and spring of rib tapering to a defined loin. Front straight with slight turn out at pastern on tidy enough feet. He moved ok both ways. Just not quite in the condition of winner.

3 Wilson’s Baalzstarz Zibal.

MPB (6,1)

1 Moffat’s Glenskyra Arran Aurora for Kargonstaffs. Attractive standard brindle with sweet, feminine expression. Dark eyes and neat ears on her nicely defined head with distinct stop. Muzzle is clean housing a correct scissor bite. Good front with adequate width of chest. Rib developing with correct length to sternum giving her a nice profile. She is compact, close coupled with a good bend of stifle. She is well let down at the hock and held her topline on the move with correct tail carriage. Fitness level not overdone for a puppy, which will improve as her work level increases. Moved ok.

2 Stanway’s Northpoints Dressed For Success at Waystaff (Imp Nld). Red/white bitch with black mask. Pleasing headpiece, lovely expression with piercing dark eyes. She has good width to her front and she has the correct amount of bone. She has good spring of rib and depth of brisket. Front needs to tighten a little. Good bend of stifle with nice amount of muscle tone. Moved well although she slightly loses her topline compared to 1st. Coat condition not at its best and I preferred the shorter back and better feet of winner.

3 Sinclair & Hayward’s Glenskyra Saltire Socks.

PB (5)

1 Gallagher’s Alshancorn Says Who. Bl/br. Attractive puppy with a beautiful expression. Lovely head shape, clean muzzle with good underjaw. Good mouth, distinct stop and she has lovely dark well placed eyes and neat rose ears. Beautiful outline and shapely body which is developing nicely for age. Straight front with good width and nice amount of bone to balance. She has enough brisket at this stage and has nice rib shape for her age. She is close coupled with a good bend of stifle and correct tail carriage. Moved confidently holding her topline. Front movement just needs to tighten up a little which will come as her condition improves as she matures. I’m sure she has some good times ahead. BPIB.

2 Constant’s Sikaistaff Cask Strength. Standard size bl/br of nice make and shape. Lovely feminine head with dark eyes and neat ears which all combined presented a nice expression. She’s a shade smaller in size than the winner but well in standard. Nicely balanced with good bone on straight forelimbs. She has enough width to front and correct depth to brisket. Nicely shaped rib and a level topline leading to a defined waistline. Good angulation front and rear. In good condition and her coat gleamed. Should have a good career ahead of her but today she didn’t show herself the best.

3 McPhail’s Bethaleese’s Ice’n A’slice for Scorguie.

JB (5)

1 Jones’ Kamaristaffs Royal Velvet. Pretty bl/br, appealing head and expression with dark round eyes and tidy rose ears. Clean foreface with good underjaw and correct mouth. Enough width to front with good bone and depth of brisket. Her compact body is of nice shape and size with good rib, enough angulation to rear and well let down at the hock. Her topline is level, she has correct tail carriage and her coat is in gleaming condition. Moved with purpose though a little close behind. Handled well.

2 Maskell’s Dekayro She’s Like The Wind. Lighter framed bl/br with a little more lift than winner. Tidy bitch, nicely shaped head with a touch more length of foreface than winner. Her muzzle has depth and width with open nares. Distinct stop. Her neat ears and dark eyes help to produce a pleasing expression. She has adequate width to chest, good bone to balance and correct drop to brisket. She has a level topline, good spring of rib and bend of stifle. Moved ok. Just preferred the substance and expression of 1st.

3 Woolley & Johnson’s Bethaleese’s Carbon Copy.

YB (6,1)

1 Shipp’s Ch Delacour Sweetest Taboo for Idyllicstaff JW. White/brindle pied. A bitch who is in tip top condition and full of energy. She moves with drive when she gets going, giving her handler a hard time. She has plenty of spark which tends to be curbed these days but something that makes me smile. Liked her clean foreface which was of good proportion to her skull. Distinct stop and a correct scissor bite. Good ear and eye placement giving a keen expression. She has good bone, nice width to her front, correct depth to brisket and length of sternum. Nicely ribbed leading to a defined loin. Well muscled first and second thighs, good bend of stifle and well let down at the hock.

2 Hamilton & Murphy’s Bonnie Lass Of Angels Peak Shawrigg JW. Another bitch, this time in red/white, who is also in lovely condition with strong rear quarters. Not much to choose between these two so came down to a bit of nitpicking. Both these females had super rear movement. Similar attributes to 1st especially in temperament – these two definitely didn’t like each other!! Another nicely shaped head, slightly shorter in muzzle than winner but still in proportion with her skull. Good mouth, correct eye/ear placement. Strong neck leading to a level topline. Good rib, well boned and good depth of brisket with enough width of chest and spring of rib. Good angulation to rear quarters and correct tail carriage. Just preferred the cleaner lines off the shoulder on 1st.

3 Jones’ Kamaristaffs Royal Velvet.

PGB (11,4)

1 Thompson’s Alport Dark Queen. Compact bl/br. Another nice feminine bitch with a super expression. Her beautiful headpiece is nicely proportioned with lovely rose ears and darkest of eyes. She is clean lipped which houses a perfect bite. Nice square front and good shoulder set. She has good bone and good spring of rib. Her level topline leads to nicely toned, correct angulated hindquarters and she was well let down at the hocks. This bitch moved and handled well. One I considered for the RCC but just lost her sparkle in the challenge.

2 Candela Andujar’s Alport Cerridwen. Bl/br in gleaming coat. Nicely shaped head and dark well placed eyes. Neat ears frame her head giving an overall nice expression. She is in hard condition with well defined muscles. Level topline held on the move. Good rib and brisket and she is light in the loin. She has an excellent straight front which is well boned on well padded feet. Rear quarters are well angulated with well defined first and second thighs. Preferred the balance of winner, who was slightly shorter in back.

3 Hopkins’ Raspberry Ripple Of Spirit Staff’s to Trufflestaff (Imp Deu).

LB (14)

1 Crawford & Wilson’s Northstaff Bay Bomber for Crowstaff JW. Another in hard condition, can tell this girl gets plenty of work. Clean feminine head with a softer expression than I normally go for. Clean muzzle with good width and depth to it. Correct dentition and her head is well shaped with neat thin ears framing her face and dark eyes finish it off. Well balanced bitch with correct amount of bone to suit her frame. Strong neck flowing into a well laid shoulder leading to a clean front. She has a good spring of rib which is of good length leading to a tight loin. She is slightly shorter backed than 2nd and is close coupled. Well angulated front and rear. Covers the ground with ease holding her topline on the move. Handler gets the best out of her.

2 Quinn’s Callastaff Five Years at Bowferry JW. Bl/br in fine fettle. A bitch with a well shaped feminine head of correct proportions and a keen expression. Muzzle is clean housing a correct scissor bite. Enough bone to balance. Front is straight with adequate width of chest. Correct depth of brisket, good spring of rib leading to a defined waistline. She has a level topline and strong hindquarters which are well muscled and hard to the touch. Coat is short and gleaming. She is full of energy and up on her toes. Sets off like a steam train holding her topline. Presented well. Just preferred the length of sternum of winner.

3 Marsden’s Auchdaran My Meggy Sue.

OB (5,1)

1 Duncan’s Ch Jackabyte Wonderlust at Rhebelstaff. What a little cracker. This is a bitch I have judged before when I awarded her the RCC, this time she went one better. Beautiful example of the breed. Nice blend of bull and terrier with no exaggeration in any department. Cracking feminine expression enhanced by coal black eyes and neatest of ears – which she is a little reluctant to use at times!! Strong neck flowing into a level topline which she held on move. Well laid shoulder and enough width to chest. Her front is true with the right amount of bone to balance. Her feet are tight and well padded with black short nails. Nice spring of rib leading to a well tucked up loin. Strong rear quarters with correct bend of stifle and nicely let down at the hock. Her movement was a pleasure to watch: free, powerful and agile with economy of effort – just what the standard asks for. Couldn’t believe this bitch only had puppies 12 weeks previously! Well done getting her back into such terrific shape. Couldn’t deny her the CC today. Congratulations and thank you for giving me the pleasure to judge her once more. BCC.

2 Arntzen’s Ch Catstaff’s If I Had A Heart (Nor). Top size bl/br bitch of quality. Super front on the tightest of feet. Clean feminine head with correct ear and eye placement. Excellent dentition and clean lipped. Lovely blend of bull and terrier. She has a well laid shoulder, level topline and is well tucked up in the loin. She has good angulation and is nicely ribbed back. A touch longer cast than winner. She has a strong rear end with great muscle tone. Good set on of tail carried correctly. She moved parallel covering the ground well with plenty of drive. Stood foursquare and was in gleaming coat condition. Her alert expression drew me in and sealed her the BRCC.

3 Hirst & Bibby’s Ch Taraiel Dua Lipa.

SBB (4)

1 Nicholson’s Cafall Pin Up Girl. Stripey brindle with white chest who moved like a dream today. Nice size with compact body and good bone. Front straight on good feet. Enough width of chest with good depth to brisket. Head is proportionate and muzzle is clean and of good strength leading to a distinct stop. Eyes dark, ears a little flighty. Good scissor bite. Her rib is well sprung and tapers nicely into the loin. Strong hindquarters which easily propelled her up and down the ring whilst keeping her topline. Some work has been put into this girl as she is in fit condition. BSB and went on to win the Terrier Special Beginners Group, congratulations.

2 Clark’s Quine On Sgor Gaoith. Another bitch in lovely condition. Feminine red. Head clean with a strong muzzle. She has a good bite and round dark eyes, ears are a little flighty. Clean shoulders leading to a well boned front and neat feet. Well ribbed back tapering into a defined waist. Body is compact and her coat is short and tight fitting. Strong back end and moved ok. Just preferred the more discernible drive displayed by winner.

3 Walker’s Torkavi The Last Dragon at Teshleystaf.
