STAFFORDSHIRE BULL SKC MAY 11 Judge(s) MRS L MCFADYEN DCC KALHOL DARK MARUDA (MISS J EVANS) Staffords In general most dogs were turned out well, in the final decisions condition can make the difference so always put in the effort to present your dog clean & well toned. There were a few major mouth faults which was surprising to find at this level, & some untidy feet, the bitches in the main outshining the dogs. When it came to BOB the dog exuded the confidence needed to represent our breed & although he was unplaced in the group, he & his young lady handler certainly did us proud. MPD (4) 1 Dolan’s Talorc Tio Funero, the two dogs in this class are litter brothers & their sisters were in the equivalent bitch class, all just 6 months so with plenty of time in front of them. Both lads need that time to grow & develop & also to learn their craft if they are to compete. Currently I found this red pup had the edge over his brother by virtue of his less heavy lips & better topline on the move, both pups have dark enough eyes with decent pigmentation throughout, their fronts are not their fortune at this stage but for such youngsters they have thumping backends; 2 Clark’s Talorc Pict Prince, brindle pup sporting plenty of bone but could do with a bit more height to balance him, his handler had a struggle with him on the day, the pup was there to play & nothing wrong with that but they will need to work to get their act together, I preferred the slightly neater feet of 1. PD (10) 1 Moore & Connery’s Cicely Sprauchled Out, a clear class winner, this is a stylish pup presented in really nice condition, coat gleaming & sensible muscle tone, not podgy pudding, nor ripped fit. Upstanding & with a flashy white chest showing off his developing brisket, he has a typical head shape & while not being very deep through the skull his stop is defined. I particularly liked his width of muzzle & strength of underjaw, he has clean enough lips, nice ear carriage & dark enough eyes all making for a good expression, short in the back & with a good hind angulation, he moved nicely around the ring. BP; 2 McGee & Cameron’s Scotstaff Highland Sky, at the top end of the class in age, this r/w pup tried very hard to throw his chances away & needed to be moved a few times to get him to settle so that I could see it all come together but although he was a handful for his lady owner his qualities are on display. Keen expression with very neat ear carriage & excellent pigmentation, I preferred his length of leg to the next placed pup & while this chap does need forechest development his brisket is sufficiently deep. His feet are neat & of good size & he has a neat whip tail, another presented in the pink; 3 Fairhurst’s Fairlenium’s Snow Patrol. JD (7) 1 Leyland & Simpson’s Briganah Black Knight, at the top end of junior, developing into a very decent all round dog, his head is defined without being overdone with strength to his foreface & underjaw. Lovely dark eyes & neat ears ensured his expression, he has well placed shoulders, neat feet, is short in back & has a tapered rib-line that flowed into a good tuck-up, moved with style; 2 Davidson’s Waystaff Dutch Minister, a stronger all round dog, this dark brindle with flashy white markings & earnest expression is very appealing. He has plenty of bone with a broad front & firm topline & when he moved his powerful back end ensured the rear drive, on the day I preferred the cleaner line & slightly shorter back of 1; 3 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Dizzee Rascal. YD (3) 1 H Taraiel Dizzee Rascal, still has a lot of maturing to do, very clean off the front & with very neat feet, but the forechest needs to develop. I loved his head & expression, so typical, lovely dark eyes, blunt square muzzle with no excess fleshiness & definition in abundance, he moved positively coming towards & presents a lovely picture; 2 Rollin’s Seenworstaff Strutistuff, red dog with more substance & bone than 1 but couldn’t match him for balance nor strength of muzzle, this is a well boned dog with a broad front, solid topline & very good rear angulation, finished off with a neat whip tail, he has well developed cheek muscles & lovely pigmentation; 3 Moffat’s Sheikastaffs Perfect Storm for Maremmrob. ND (5) 1 Fairhurst’s Fairlenium’s Snow Patrol, lovely marked pied who was 3rd in PD, extremely well boned, to be critical I would expect a more defined head shape to balance him, although of course he still has plenty of time on his side. He has great width & depth to his front with his brisket developing very well, lovely body shape, excellent blend of stifle & level topline (which could easily be obscured by his markings), when he moved out he did so with confidence & style. I particularly loved his coal black eyes & excellent pigmentation, 2 Swinburn & Corbett’s Blazinstaff Diversity, an old fashioned type brindle with flashy white markings, in the previous class he was very obviously spooked by something ringside & took a while to settle but in this class he was more relaxed & moved very well to secure his place, although I would prefer a blunter muzzle with more depth. He is a decent upstanding dog with a strong backend & neat tail carriage; 3 Cartwright’s Zakstaff Game On. PGD (6) 1 Murray’s The Dark Daredevil, a very mixed class but this one was the clear winner, he is a heavy dog but my notes say ‘proper type, proper style’ & he was presented in excellent coat condition, possibly a wee bit over angulated. Moved out soundly & has a good width to his chest without exaggeration, he has a typical head shape enhanced by neat ear carriage, very clean, tight lips & good eye placement, the handler enjoyed his win & I found out the following day it was his birthday; 2 Hughes’ Auchdaran Betsy’s Boy, lively dark brindle dog with higher set ears than 1 & less muzzle strength, this dog has a decent front & level topline but showed his virtues better when freestood than stacked. He could’ve been in a bit better condition but I liked his honest expression; 3 McKenzie’s Auchdaran Tara’s Boy. LD (10) 1 Evans’ Kalhol Dark Maruda, the find of the day for me, once he came into the class I couldn’t take my eyes off him & continued to think of him throughout the rest of the judging, he definitely made an impression. He is a demanding dog, wants his owner’s attention at all times & certainly demanded mine. Really up on his toes with excellent neat feet, he showed a perfect picture of a male Stafford, everything in the right place & oozing confidence, I loved his shapely body, ribs flowing in to a tapered loin then a broad & sound back end. He has a very typical head, strong & chiselled, with dark eyes & neat ears, when he settled he moved with precision, he is a powerful dog & I probably surprised myself & kept coming back to him throughout the class, he was presented in tip top condition & I had no hesitation in giving him the CC & BOB; 2 Dowse’s Rotherstaff Black Tie, less about this dog all over than 1 but nevertheless a dog that couldn’t be overlooked, he is cleaner in lip than 1 but couldn’t match the power in head & width in front, this b/br chap is in excellent coat & has such neat feet & a lovely brisket. Love his expression although as he is over enthusiastic it makes it hard to see his full head properties easily, his neck was a bit over stretched which accentuated his length of coupling but he has a decent back end & moved & behaved better than I have seen in the past; 3 Atherton & Kemp’s Javawolf Midnight Onion. OD (7) 1 Scarlett’s Ramblestaff Ebenezer Good, a bang Standard dog with everything in the right place who won this class with ease but on the day couldn’t compete with the LD for the overall prize. Carries a good weight of round bone, is clean in muzzle with correct strength & depth to his skull, neat ears & lovely dark eyes, although to be critical I would prefer them rounder, he is short in the back & has true rear angulation which ensures his precise & effortless movement. Easily one of the best moving Staffords around in my opinion, he is a smashing package but he needed to be much more animated to stave off the completion from the LD so unfortunately for him had to settle for the RCC; 2 Pearce & Ward’s Absolute Star, a stronger headed dog than 1 but without the balance, this dog has a thicker neck & is a bit lower to the ground on the front, altogether a decent dog he has a great width & strength to his backend; 3 Monestina’s Itcheboren Scarface Braco. MPB (8) 1 Corcoran’s Molru Cosmic Love, out & out winner in this class, this b/br baby has a promising future ahead of her, her dark eyes give her a ‘melt your heart’ expression. She is really clean in muzzle, bang straight front with everything you want in a pup at this stage, very best of luck for the future, 2 Scott’s Spenstaff Vince’s Sweetheart, another tiny baby, just 6 months but with everything in the right place so time will tell, although she was quite shy she picked it up & eventually decided to play the game & let me see her lovely outline. Smashing coat condition, nice ear carriage, a pretty baby; 3 Addison’s Talorc Pict Princess of Guyad. PB (9) 1 Moffat & McBurnie’s Kannechor Bewitched at Kargonstaffs, nice looking little brindle upstanding bitch with a strong neck & good underjaw, she has a broader front than 2nd, a blunt muzzle would be better without the wrinkling but lovely dark eyes giving nice expression & well placed ears. Handled extremely well & responded well to her handler so showed off all her assets standing, although on the move she snuffled the ground a fair bit; 2 Beard’s Hasweth Gold Dust Woman, an extremely pretty brindle bitch with a lovely depth & definition to her skull & tight lips, she is narrower in front at this stage than 1 & has less brisket development but what a lovely package; 3 Arnott’s Blazinstaff Volvanic Vogue for Staffknot. JB (13) 1 Summerfield’s Canakey Sweetpea, this class probably had the best overall quality in any one class, making it a harder job to split hairs, with the first two in the class it was really nip & tuck as I preferred some things about each one. Both bitches have excellent pigmentation & great head properties with clean strong muzzles, this red bitch is a very pretty package with a great underjaw, very well proportioned front & up on her toes. She has less stifle angulation than 2nd but has a shorter coupling, it’s easy to see why she has many red rosettes, she has strength throughout yet no denying she is feminine, a lovely blend; 2 Simpson’s Briganah Breaking Dawn, a quality b/br who is always going to be in the reckoning, she has a lovely balance & a powerful backend that propelled her around the ring with ease, her ear carriage is neater than the class winner & her expression is very true & appealing, she made this decision the closest one of the day; 3 Robinson’s Sabahouse Let’s Hope for Boydslass. YB (6) 1 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Rihanna, a very classy b/br with a flashy white front displaying all the virtues you want in a bitch, classic head shape with distinct stop, strong underjaw, tight lips & beautiful dark eyes. Her pigmentation throughout is excellent, she has a true front, strong pasterns & neat feet. To be critical she could have a more shapely rib but she is beautifully toned & moved truly, albeit quite shyly, scored here by virtue of her cleaner outline; 2 Exton’s Constones Padme, heavier throughout than 1 but nonetheless sound & free moving, she has a beautiful brindle coat, strong bone & shapely ribs, I liked the depth to her skull & the strength of her muzzle but would like to see less wrinkle. She was turned out in top order & handled to show off her assets; 3 Jardine & Moffat’s Leger She’s The One. NB (10) 1 Robinson’s Sabahouse Let’s Hope for Boydslass, 3rd in a hot contested JB, this Standard b/br took my eye, she has plenty of time to mature on but is already showing great promise & has a lovely shape to her body, she is well balanced & has a typical head shape with lovely dark eyes & strength in underjaw although a little more width to muzzle would enhance. Enough bone & keeping it all together on the move, she is a very typy bitch & an easy winner in this class; 2 M Kannechor Bewitched at K; 3 A Blazinstaff Volvanic Vogue for S. PGB (7) 1 McCallum’s Ballindona Charmer’s Lass at Ashstaff, a decent top sized b/br, this one is well off for bone & has good width to her chest. Shorter in the back than 2nd, she has a straight front, good tight feet & was turned out in nice condition. In the class she made sure I couldn’t ignore her with her honest expression, using her ears well; 2 Cunningham’s Spinnjack Berry Nice, another who held me with her expression, rounder eye shape than 1 & with clean tight lips & neat ear carriage, she went very well with her handler. Good bend of stifle to drive her on the move complimented by neat tail carriage, she has a good depth of brisket but is just slightly narrower in chest & a shade longer cast than 1; 3 Atherton & Kemp’s Tornadostorm Dancing Queen. LB (12) 1 Booth & Grimwood’s Ramblestaff Jorja On My Mind, a good class of bitches with especially the first two showing similar virtues, I liked both in equal measures, 1 handled to advantage, displaying a lovely defined head shape, distinct stop, strong underjaw & good cheek muscles, again I was impressed by the clean tight lips, no need for excess fleshiness in our breed. Well balanced, her front has width & a lovely drop of brisket with strength in the pasterns, on the move she was a little shy at first but settled when asked; 2 Caswell & Dowling’s Leger Odds On Favourite at Cyberstaff, although this b/br was a little more sluggish on the move she had all the qualities needed to secure her place, including width & power to her back end & a good topline, she used her ears to advantage & has a lovely outline; 3 Dewar’s Mintmar One For One. OB (7) 1 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Trinity, I was so pleased to see this stylish bitch not only presented in the pink of condition but showing off her many virtues. Sometimes I think she & her handler hide their light under a bushel, she has class for all to see, is bang Standard with a coat & condition that is perfection, loved her classic head & expression with tight lips & strength in her underjaw. Balanced from all angles, with tight feet, on the move she held her topline well & having reminded me & more of why her charms won her a RCC last time I judged her, I was delighted to award her top honours this time. CC. This was her second but the third must be there soon & I hope I am there to see it, she is a very deserving bitch; 2 Robinson’s Cragails Indian Summer, top sized bitch but nonetheless quality from nose to tail, compared to 1 she is straighter in stifle but when it came to moving around the ring she did so with confidence & flair. Loved her expression, she has neat ear carriage & is another with strength of underjaw, she has a strong, shapely body yet keeping her feminine charms, turned out in excellent order with a gleaming coat, her poise & style secured her the RCC; 3 Stanway’s Waystaff Dutch Pearl.
