STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE PAIGNTON 15

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

My thanks to my extremely two capable stewards whose diligence allowed me to progress speedily through the classes. My appreciation also extends to the owners/handlers for their generous entries by allowing me the opportunity to examine their dogs. My sympathies go out those who had battled on through the horrendous traffic hold ups. I fully appreciate their dedication, of which keeps dog showing alive.

I find pleasure by discovering that the teeth problems of the past are immensely improved. I failed to find any misplaced (converging canines), however, there were just a couple of small impairments.

If I may offer a small grievance. I have read of other judges complaining of ‘over baiting’. I fully endorse their remarks. It is difficult to attract a dog’s attention when the handler is waving a choice favourite in front of their dog’s nose. Further: it can create poor movement by the dog looking up for the expectation of a tasty morsel thus causing the dogs distraction when being asked to move.

MPD (3)

1 Clough’s My Top Gun Maverick, b/br of good proportion. Well shaped head with enough length of muzzle. Well bodied with straight topline. Strongly boned, with straight front & correct turn out of pasterns. Would like to see a little more turn of stifle, even so, he quite moved well;

2 Turner’s Tidestaff Dark Wizard, brindle. A little overwhelmed by the occasion. Balances out well with a good head shape, broad skull with well placed eye shape, ear carriage a little erratic at the moment. Well sprung rib gage for this age. Short coupled, angulated hindquarters. Moved with a slight trepidation, no doubt due to his shyness & his age;

3 Johnson’s Shine On My Crazy Diamond.

PD (5)

1 Case’s Staffstyle Through Glass, flashy b/br/w. Looks quite promising. Good overall size, head is well proportioned but needs a little more time to balance out with his ear carriage. Correct clean level mouth. Straight front with well boned legs & good feet. Moves well for one so young. Well presented, in lovely condition;

2 Davies’ Braunstaff from Hasbury, different type than 1. With both having many virtues. Not a large head but well proportioned with complimentary ear shape. Strong muzzle with a correct mouth, dark round eyes with lovely keen alert expression. Overall he balances out very well & kept a good topline;

3 Papworth’s Tiezelstaffs Moonshine Bay.

JD (6)

1 Thomas’ Cazomic Crime Fighter, wonderful looking red with outstanding balance. Well shaped head, deep through, with rose ears Wonderful dark pigmentation complimenting his aforesaid colour. Well balanced throughout showing a clean outline, including well placed shoulders, level topline & nicely proportioned rearquarters. I feel he is bound for top honours but in the line-up for the CC I felt he needed that slight extra development to compete with the two top winners;

2 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Busta Rhymes, brindle, excellent in overall shape & size. First class head shape. Correct dentition with good sized teeth. With attributes of dark round eyes, good earset, keen expression. His front is straight but a little tight, being well boned along with good tight feet. Level topline, short coupled to well angulated hindquarters displaying a driving movement going away;

3 Dean’s Kylestaff Muddy Water.

YD (5)

1 Butler’s Ramblestaff Cos I Could, flashy b/br with white. Already hit the dizzy heights at this young age, but a further one I felt needed a little more maturity to compete with the top two. First class head shape having strength & depth to his underjaw. Correct dentition with good sized teeth. The attributes of dark round eyes, good ear set & carriage provides him with a keen lively expression. His front is straight with well boned legs & good tight feet. Short coupled to well angulated hindquarters. Excellent outline & balance, move with free driving action;

2 Hutchings’ Bullhawk Hez The One, a smart & well composed young brindle dog. Balances out well with a lovely outline. Neat tidy head shape with correct dentition well placed eyes giving lovely expression. Moved away a little erratic but corrected this on the return. Presented in good condition;

3 Karlsson & Beaufoy’s Jewelstaff Rocker Billy Boy.

UGD (4)

1 Martinez’s Bullbrothers Fifth Element, b/br. Lot to like about this dog, well balanced, well boned but would like a little more shoulder width. Well headed dog but ears need to settle. Dark round eyes, keen expression. Good body length & topline which he held on the move. Well conditioned. Responded well to his handler. Presented in top condition;

2 Mitchell & Ashton’s Our Little Cracker, diluted b/br. Straight forward type of Stafford. Larger dog than 1. Well boned with good outline, would prefer a little turn of stifle but moved well both ways;

3 Dean’s Kylestaff Muddy Water.

PGD (11,1a)

1 Hale & Kemp’s Caymenstaffs Highland King, I thought I had seen much of this dog from the ringside & had a liking for him. As my assessment continued, I became more impressed with his quality than I had originally thought. Later I find it was not the dog I first thought but his litter brother, he who had only been shown once previously. He has is well proportioned & in a fit condition, strong broad deep through skull. Clean level mouth. Good eye set with a defined stop. His body had well sprung ribs with good tuck up in the loins. Excellent fore & hindquarters which propelled him along with a free flowing movement. A worthy winner of the RCC;

2 Parfoot’s Trufflestaff Golden Gloves, another quality dog. B/br with good head shape & body outline. Correct mouth with good cheek muscles, short in the body with good well sprung ribcage. Moved freely & shown in very good condition;

3 Moureu-Larrang’s Illegal Ruskof Du Clan Molotov.

LD (18)

1 Efreme’s Ashbull O’Toole, where have they been hiding this dog? Wonderful type with clean lines. A powerful structured animal which impress me at first glance. He is so well balanced. Strong defined head shape with deep properly angled stop. Clean correct level mouth ideally, dark set eye shape. His front is of good width body is short with a good well sprung ribcage, his underline tapering nicely to a defined waistline. Correct tail set & carriage. Moved well with a true action front & rear. Pleased to present him with the CC he deserved so well;

2 Stanway’s Waystaff What A Cracker, a further favourite of mine. His appearance is wonderfully set off by his flashy colour combination of mahogany/br/w. As usual, he his turned out immaculately with well muscular body conditioning. Fits the Standard extremely well without exaggeration. Well proportioned head, dark round eye & general pigmentation. Correct ear carriage. Level mouth & defined stop. Moved well with a purposeful driving action. Unlucky to have met his two hot contenders on the day;

3 Thomas’ Biggleswick Funky Devil.

OD (12,2)

1 Davies’ Ch Eclypstaff Cuz I Can, dog of great quality & excellence. Today I thought he carried a small amount of body weight which marred his chances but nevertheless his owners can take comfort in the fact they have dog who seems to be producing some excellent offspring. B/br, fits the Standard so well. His head is particularly pleasing being deep through with a defined stop, dark round eyes, ideally placed. rose ears making for a good expression. Correct dentition. Strong underjaw. His quarters fore & aft are well angulated. Displays a clean outline along with good bend of stifle. Demonstrated top drawer movement by his free forwarding driving action;

2 Beeby & Watson’s Geordiestaff Dynamo Dexter, well balanced b/br. Nicely constructed throughout. Appealing head shape of well proportioned quality. Correct dentition along with well developed cheek muscles. Dark round eyes set looking straight forward. Ear placement & carriage enhances appealing expression. Ideally balanced body with a deep rounded ribcage & close well defined couplings. Well boned legs with tight well padded feet. Powerful angulated hindquarters which allow for good movement extension;

3 Price’s Little Beau Geste.

VD (2)

1 Covezzi’s Action Doggy Dog Cheitan Hitam Actlon Doggy Dog Cheltan Hltam, d/b white chest. Good head shape, with broad skull with well placed eyes complimented by good ear carriage. Excellent spring of rib, short coupled to well angulated hindquarters. Moved freely & shown in excellent condition which is most gratifying to find in veteran classes;

2 Albero & Garcia’s Ch Staffgold Peacewalker, dark brindle, other than showing a little greying around the muzzle. It is easy to see how he obtained his titles. He balances out so very well & moves freely maintaining a good topline. He responded quite well to his handler but had to give way to a better conditioned dog on the day;

3 Summers’ Jewelstaff Kubia Khan at Warriorstaff.

MPB (3,1)

1 Nicholson’s Antrelleda Just Jane at Ballindona, rather taken with this young pup. Pleasingly shaped head topped & complimented by neat ears. Front a little tight & needs to expand, ample rib gage, level topline. Rearquarters well bent but need time to develop. Her action was quite reasonable but I’m not too concerned with regard to movement at this age;

2 Mignano-Fricker & Fricker’s Calavey’s Magical Dream, brindle. Good headed with correct length of muzzle & level bite. Strong front with tight feet, level topline. Generally, moved & well presented. Just a fine margin between the two.

PB (8,1)

1 Johnson’s Ginstean My Girl Lollipop, b/br youngster with lots of potential. Well shaped head, level mouth, well bodied with good quarter. Moved very well to go on to win her way to BP;

2 Payton’s Tonpay Anything Could Happen, b/br. Good headed puppy, ears a little flighty at this stage. Nice body properties. Moved well;

3 Nicholson’s Antrelleda Just Jane at Ballindona.

JB (18,3)

1 Sem & Ullerflaen’s Celunas Know It All, b/br, wonderful with a feminine head, showing no exaggeration. Clean front, ample rib, nice topline & good angulation front & rear. Moved well & won the class comfortably. A further one for the future;

2 Manito’s Dynastaff Pure Science, b/br. Strongly headed with dark eye, ears need to settle, clean muzzle & correct bite. Nice front, tight feet, enough length of neck leading to correct shoulder angulation and pleasing topline. Well muscled rearquarters. Angulation allows for good moving action. All told, a nice all-round package;

3 Lewis’ Macadermus Myrna Queen at Inkastaff.

YB (11)

1 Canavan’s Boldstock Am I Bovered, nicely constructed brindle, nice overall balance. Proportionate skull, good eye & ear placement. Correct forequarters which provided correct weight distribution to her topline leading to correctly angulated pelvis & low set-on of tail. Bend of stifles allowing for good movement;

2 Coble’s Surestaff Wild Orchid, brindle. Proportionate skull & muzzle. Dark eye, correctly placed & neat rose ears giving typical expression. Well bodied & in good condition. Would like a little more rear angulation. Nevertheless, moved quite well;

3 Thomas’ Pridesdale Special Edition.

UGB (9)

1 C Know It All;

2 Beesley’s Jodanzac Missy Lou, brindle of pleasing outline. Lovely front with correctly placed shoulder to pastern providing correct weight distribution of the forequarters. Tapers pleasingly from shoulder through to her ribs. Well tucked up in the loins from the side view. Would have liked a slightly more rear angulation, this being the difference between the two;

3 Dyer’s Cadarnbull The Sixth Sense.

PGB (9,1)

1 Molineux’s Jefmor Winter Solstice at Druidhawk, what a lovely spot on size standard dark brindle. Good body shape with well placed shoulders leading to level topline which she held while on the move. Pleasing head shape with right correct distribution & weight of bone. Excellent condition. Moved very well;

2 Price’s Alport Miss Dior, hard decision between the two. Lovely head with proportionate skull/muzzle ratio, dark eye. Ears not the shape of 1 & this seemed the only deciding issue between the two. Terrific front of correct angulations, depth & width providing a very pleasing picture with her lightness of loin. Level topline & correctly angled pelvis & stifle. Moved very well showing good reach & flexibility;

3 Wilks’ Mishdar’s Special Order for Jevaces.

LB (10)

1 Stanway’s Mosstrooper Making Mischief at Waystaff, red with white markings. Lovely head with proportionate skull/muzzle ratio. Dark eye & neat rose ears. Terrific front of correct angulations, depth & width providing a very pleasing picture. In profile she presents a nice outline by her level topline & correctly angled pelvis & stifle but would like to see a little better balance by her being that little shorter in the back. Moved very well showing good reach & discernible drive;

2 Chaine’s Crudha Breizh Izel, b/br. Two different types. Head with proportionate skull & muzzle ratio, dark eye, neat ears. Nice square front with well round boned legs, I felt the feet could be a little tighter. A very typy bitch who presents a very pleasing picture from all angles. Nicely bodied with both taper from above & depth in profile. Stifles have angled proportionately with well let down hocks. Moved well both ways;

3 Nicholson’s Ballindona Caol Ila.

OB (10,1)

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Ch Taraiel Ciara, dense b/br of excellent type which cannot be overlooked. Quality shines through. Strong unexaggerated head. Clean strong muzzle shape with sound bite & large teeth. Grand front, all providing a pleasing picture. Well bodied with good topline, complimenting underline with lightness of loin. Well angulated rear, correct tailset & carriage. Could be better on the move but this didn’t stop her holding off the stiff competition from her rivals. CC winner;

2 Stanway & McCulloch’s Waystaff Sea The Stars, smart d/brindle of good proportions. Soundly constructed with clean outlines. Nothing exaggerated. Head shape is clean, would like a little more strength. Excellent body shape with good tuck up in the loins. Front view is excellent with good width & balance along with correct shoulder angle. Soundly constructed all round & probably the best mover on the day. RCC;

3 Wilson’s Eclypstaff There You Go at Kalverin.

VB (2)

1 Hopkins’ Ch Trufflestaff Monifa Kanika, an old favourite of mine from way back. Still showing her excellent properties which have are starting to fade a little but can still show a good outline. Movement seems to be suffering a little now unfortunately, but in the past it was one of her virtues which thrust her to the front to make me think she belongs in the bracket of my top three bitches during my time in the breed;

2 Funnell’s Ch Kewaunee Pocahontas for Powerpack, a further b/br veteran with many qualities of a winner. Good head shape & body make up. Strong boned & presented a good outline – like the other old girl she seems to have lost what one can expect has age takes over & movement is one of the things which eventually happens.
