STAFFORDSHIRE BULL MIDLAND COUNTIES 16 Judge(s): MARY COBLE DCC CH JAZZ DE POWER BRETON (MRS CHAINE) Staffordshire Bull Terriers My thanks to the officers & committee for the invitation to adjudicate at this well attended show & for the hospitality extended to my husband & myself. Considering it was a weekday show, it was a surprisingly good entry & I would sincerely like to thank exhibitors for this, making it a most enjoyable day for me, albeit an early start & keeping me very busy. Pleased to say I didn’t find an abundance of mouth faults so, in general, haven’t made individual comments in the critiques but am a little concerned at the lack of bone in some of the bitches, nevertheless, overall there are still plenty of good specimens to be found in both sexes, & I was very satisfied with my final line-up. MPD (5) 1 Southall’s Bekash Up ‘N Atem, b/br, a nice sized very appealing 7 months old with a good head, strong foreface, dark round eyes, ears a little untidy but didn’t spoil the picture. Well boned front legs, good width to chest, short back & adequate bend of stifle. Moved & handled well; 2 Jordan’s Dazmarnic Know What I Mean, substantially built red, 8 months old, who I’m sure as he matures will have a promising future. He has a good head shape & expression enhanced by his dark eyes & neat ears, well developed body & excellent pigmentation. Today not as confident as winner but this will no doubt change as he & his handler gain more experience; 3 Ferguson’s Fergustaff Jack Frost. PD (4) 1 Thomas’ Bigglewick Gods Me Judge, brindle with large white blaze, well shaped head, dark round eyes & neat small well set ears which gave him a lovely expression. Very balanced youngster, enough bone, true front, good shoulder placement, level topline & well muscled hindquarters which enabled him to move well. BPD; 2 Breckell’s Chiswelstaff Let’s Dance, b/br, plenty to like about him, but only 9 months old & not as mature as 1. Good clean head, large teeth, darkest of eyes & neat ears. Body developing agreeably, good legs, nice feet & ample rib, short coupled & strong hindquarters. Presented in excellent condition; 3 Allsopp’s Rubericla Trailbreaker. JD (7) 1 Yorke’s Braunstaff Feel The Noise, cobby b/br, strong in head, deep through with pronounced cheek muscles, although a trifle fleshy in muzzle, dark piercing eyes, & well placed small rose ears. Straight front, nicely boned legs correctly turned out slightly at pasterns, tight feet, shortish neck flowing into well placed shoulders, nicely ribbed & short coupled, with toned & muscled rearend enabling him to show plenty of drive on the move; 2 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Papinashuash, another pleasing b/br with a pleasing head, housing large teeth, dark round eyes & good ear placement, scores well in body shape, short coupled & well bent stifles, with clean outline when viewed from side. Moved well but first just pipped him in hind action; 3 Freeman & Davis’ Kylestaff Moonlight Shadow at Windstaff. YD (11,2a) 1 Jones & Davies’ Maxta Prince Of Celts, an upstanding b/br with small white blaze on his front which is wide & true, his strong neck flowing into good shoulders. He has a lovely head, not overdone but strong with a good ratio of muzzle to skull, intense dark eyes & neat ears which he certainly used to advantage. Well ribbed, level topline, good tuck-up & decent bend of stifle. Moved & handled well, a strong contender in the finals – I feel he portrays enough virtues required to reach the top; 2 Darby’s Manark Guns N Roses, top sized young b/br, with a great appeal. Good head with typical expression, small thin ears, very clean in lip, well constructed body & in great condition, fine close coat. Should have a bright future. Unlucky to meet winner today; 3 McClelland’s Rochlawie Behold The Hour. PGD (15,3) 1 Puggaard’s Beautystaff’s Dark And Handsome, this b/br is aptly named for me as he certainly lived up to being handsome with his classic strong head, dark round eyes, neat well set rose ears & super alert expression. He is well built with a straight front, deep brisket & good shoulders, super pigmentation, short in back with strong hindquarters. The more I looked, the more I liked him overall. Moved well & held his topline. Pleased to award him RCC; 2 Mayren’s Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs, flashy r/w pied who stands out in a crowd with his ring presence, head is strong, with defined stop & blunt clean muzzle, complimented with the darkest round eyes & neat well positioned ears. Decent width to front, short strong neck, nice lay of shoulder & good topline. Presented in fit condition & good drive from backend, although not as good in front as winner; 3 Owen’s Kyraloebis Well Reem at Tagstone. LD (11,1) 1 Miller’s Deldenas Black Shadow, b/br, a really good example of bull & terrier blend, not the biggest of dogs but beautifully balanced without exaggeration. Good chiselled head, with pronounced cheek muscles & round dark eye giving keen expression. True in front, good forechest, & deep brisket, excellent pigmentation & fine coat. Moved well when in stride; 2 Davies’ Ginstean Man Of God, very nice typy b/br with many of the above virtues, so could easily change places with winner on another occasion but unfortunately he wasn’t making much effort today to impress. Won his placing on construction, hard as nails condition & good presentation. Covered the ground effortlessly; 3 Stanway’s Waystaff Double Trouble. OD (19,4) A strong class to win, with many good dogs going cardless. However, take heed – not everyone will have the same opinions as to what makes a winning dog so try & remember when you are disappointed, be sporting & live to fight another day. 1 Chaine’s Ch Jazz De Power Breton, lovely red dog, with large white blaze down chest, who I have judged before abroad & given top honours. In my opinion, he really is as good as he looks, with his clean outline & a ring presence that defies you to ignore him. He has a super head, deep through skull, distinct stop, obvious cheek muscles & black nose with large nostrils & although his ears are a tad heavy, they are neat & well positioned, giving him a great expression. His front is straight, legs well boned, tight padded feet, clean in shoulder, nicely muscled body with deep brisket & good tuck-up, finishing up with powerful hindquarters. Not surprisingly he moves freely & responds well to his handler. In stiff competition, could not deny him the first place & eventually the CC. However, finally lost out on BOB as he began to show signs of flagging (possibly due to the long distance he travelled to reach the show). Many thanks giving me the opportunity to judge him again; 2 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Buster Rhymes, b/br who I have admired since a puppy & he has definitely fulfilled his earlier promise. He has an impressive head, strong foreface & underjaw, dark eyes & neat ears complete the picture. His compact body is well constructed, rib development good, is short coupled with a strong backend. Shown in very fit condition, he moves well both front & rear; 3 Finney’s Ballindona Crafty Copper at Sanguliano. MPB (11,1) 1 Asker’s Dazmarnic For Her Indoors, very promising 8 month old red, good head with lovely dark expressive eyes, correctly placed rose ears, nice ratio of muzzle to skull, mouth OK, straight front, legs & feet OK, black nails would simply have been a bonus, short neck, good shoulder placement & body developing nicely for age. A nice puppy indeed who, hopefully, will mature into a winning adult. BPB & BP; 2 Martin’s Alvis Black Country Spirit, pretty r/w puppy, not quite 7 months old but well schooled & showed off to advantage taking 2 in a large class. Head is of good shape as is body with a straight front, enough rib for age & nice bend of stifle. Moved & handled well; 3 Ferguson’s Fergustaff Cosmic Love. PB (11,3) 1 Roger’s Ginstean Second Chance for Ynysstaff, b/br with lots of appeal, a particularly pleasing expression on a strong but feminine head, dark piercing eyes, neat rose ears which she uses well, nice blunt muzzle, scissor bite, good pigment. Well built for 10 months old, true in front, with a muscular neck, good shoulders, level topline, short in back & hindquarters strong. Moved & handled well; 2 Blanch Calonge’s Diamonds Of Blanch Princess, predominantly white, cobby puppy of 9½ months, with an attractive head, small rose ears correctly placed & dark eyes. Bodied up nicely with good boned front legs, enough rib & decent bend of stifle. Coat a bit coarse but overall she shows potential. Handler got best out of her, moves well; 3 Yates, Tune & Cund’s Tusselstaff Black Diamond. JB (13,2) 1 Byrne & Gartland’s Carandstaff Moondance, a young Standard sized b/br of immense quality, she has a beautiful head with that mischievous wicked expression, nice ratio of muzzle to skull, deep stop, good width between those dark penetrating eyes, well developed cheek muscles & nicely placed neat thin ears. Her front is straight & wide, well boned legs with good feet, slightly turning out at pasterns (as required in the Standard). Good muscular body, deep brisket, short coupled & powerful hindquarters which gave her plenty of drive on the backend, has a good topline standing & moving. She caught my attention the moment she came into the ring & she never let up showing, eventually convincing me she was just what I was looking for – a star in the making. Pleased to give her the CC & BOB; 2 Scotland’s Callastaff Moon River, another b/br with many of the same virtues of winner (interestingly they both have the same sire). She is just a smidge smaller & not quite as substantial but certainly is just as eyecatching with her strong head, blunt muzzle, rose ears & keen expression. Her body is good & ribcage well developed. Admired her as a puppy & she hasn’t lost any of her appeal, but in the end simply preferred the overall balance & rear movement of winner; 3 Funnell’s Powerpack Cherokee. YB (8,4) 1 Winwood & Tunnah’s Nerotoro Stella, b/br who, on going over her, proves to be even better than she first looks. She is of very good construction, with a deep brisket, well off for rib & has a nice tuck-up showing off her strong hindquarters with nicely bent stifles. Delightful head shape, strong clean muzzle, eyes are so dark they almost look black, lovely thin rose ears & correct dentition. Totally at ease with her handler, both front & rear movement is good. Well deserved RCC; 2 McClelland’s Rochlawie Bonnie Lass, b/br, smaller than winner, but won her placing on her general soundness. Good head, dark eye, nice length of muzzle & very clean cut. Well developed body with good rib. Handled well & moved freely; 3 Matthews’ Janjoma Boniwee Gurl. PGB (11,4) 1 Thisby’s Samtan Black Pearl at Taurinstaff, very typy b/br with white blaze down chest, strong but feminine head of very nice shape, super rose ears & dark eyes giving her the desired keen expression. Well off for bone & nicely put together with a good front, ample rib, short back & good hindquarters, she creates a pleasing picture. Moved well both going & coming back but made her handler work hard to get the best out of her; 2 Lee’s Leebee’s Precious, predominantly white with a red patch, needs to be gone over to be appreciated as she doesn’t seem particularly interested in the show scene. Pleasing head shape, straight front, well ribbed, good turn of stifle, moved well & held topline, altogether presenting an attractive outline; 3 Thomas’ Sunnystone Bit Of Brimstone. LB (13,3) 1 Saunt’s Crudha Nordic Star, not the biggest of b/br but beautifully put together, & such clean lines, in superb condition, not an ounce of fat anywhere to be seen. Lovely head, nice length of muzzle to skull, dark round eye & good earset, certainly up on her toes with attitude & raring to go. Her front is straight & wide enough, good shoulder placement, short in back & short coupled, well developed rearend, finished off with neat whip tail. Moved well without losing level topline; 2 Manito’s Dynastaff Pure Science, high spirited b/br which seems to be the order of the day from this kennel. Lovely head with dark eyes & a wicked expression, enhanced with well placed neat ears. Body development good, decent width front, enough rib & hindquarters nicely muscled. Moved OK when she managed to keep all four feet moving on the ground, not waving in the air. A difficult bitch to handle & get the best out of her which will probably cost her placings; 3 Bryan’s Felkirkstaff Galadriel. OB (15,5) 1 Stanway’s Mosstrooper Making Mischief at Waystaff, r/w pied, substantially built, very sound & well put together, without exaggeration. Classic head, strong but so feminine with lovely dark eyes, she has a compact body, good balance & moves extremely well without much effort. Liked her a lot but feel it such a shame she performs so well & then can’t muster that extra little bit of sparkle necessary to stand out from the crowd; 2 Terzi’s Unistar At Maxstaffy Bee Master, smart b/br, lovely outline from all angles. Good head, very clean cut, with darkest of eyes giving great expression. True in front, good depth of brisket & ample rib, with a decent tuck up. Shown in fit condition & handled expertly. Moved freely, maintaining level topline & carrying tail correctly; 3 Canavan’s Ch Boldstock Am I Bovered. MARY COBLE |
