STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 14

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I would like to thank all the exhibitors firstly for their patience with me judging their exhibits. I do like to offer every exhibit the same attention throughout each class as some do not show themselves off at shows, but if patience is given by judges when assessing this can highlight virtues that are not noted when time & patience are not given. This did provide higher placings in a few classes for me. We are not judging handling we are solely judging the exhibits & searching for virtues to gain the official placing, this should be carried out more often.

Also thanks go to my Stewards, David & Carol, who assisted me throughout the day & made the task a lot easier with their humour & support.

Movement & toplines are really looking a great deal better. In the movement quest I did move some exhibits a few times at different paces, which identified that they can move more parallel than the pace chosen by the handler (try this at home with someone viewing for you it will help). Toplines are much better which is a big plus for the breed & I was really impressed with the percentage exhibited.

Also if handlers are struggling to stack their exhibits, show them freely & explain to the judge why. It was mentioned to a few exhibitors & it worked for them today. I constantly view the exhibits throughout the classes when they are relaxed, revealing a lot of virtues in some & it also assisted in the final decisions.

Once again thank you for your time & patience.

MPD (2,1a)

1 Woollett’s Assilio Red Alert, red dog of 6 months with a terrific coat. Excellent head shape not overdone in any way, perfect bite & very clean in the muzzle. Very correct pigmentation. Well boned forequarters & correct hindquarters. Moved OK for one so young. Handled very well & patiently.

PD (7)

1 Thompson’s Alport Hallo Man, b/br in very good condition. Another youngster with an excellent head shape, correct bite & neat ears which enhances his expression. Very correct well boned forequarters & a well sprung ribcage for one so young. Another handled very patiently which assisted him when asked to move. More to come with this lad most definitely. BPD;

2 Martens’ Breed And Bull I Can Never Back Down, r/w/pied. Another lad who fits the Standard & already possesses a very impressive head shape. Slightly immature to the winner which made the final decision, but plenty more to come. Very well boned forequarters & correct hindquarters with a good topline & also moved OK;

3 Butler’s Ramblestaff Cos I Could

JD (10,1)

1 Martinez’s Bullbrothers Dr Who, standard size b/br. Another with an excellent head shape & a cracking expression. He also possesses neat ear carriage & a perfect bite. He has correct depth of brisket & excellent forequarters, which gained him the win in this class along with a well sprung ribcage & well angulated hindquarters. Another with a good future;

2 Thomas’ Biggleswick Funky Devil, r/w/white pied. Very good head shape with the darkest of eyes, very clean lipped & possesses a good bite. Well boned forequarters & well angulated hindquarters & he actually moved quite well, which gained him the placing in this class;

3 Johnson’s Jonajane Sussudio.

YD (7)

1 Edwards’ Byrnestaff Tiger Man, brindle lad who attracted attention to himself at all times. Excellent head shape, correct bite & eye placement with a wicked expression & neat ears. Correct well boned forequarters & well pigmented. Correct spring of rib & depth of brisket & correct well angulated hindquarters. His virtues were highlighted when viewed from all angles & then moved quite well to add further plusses, which secured his placing in this class. Considered strongly in the challenge. Good luck in the future;

2 Byrnes’ Byrnestaff Man On Fire, red dog who is the litter brother of the winner which highlights the quality in the breeding. He tried his hardest not to get placed but when stood on a loose lead all his virtues were there, which he earlier tried to hide!! The handler dealt with him really well. Good head shape & excellent expression. Correct forequarters & hindquarters & he even moved quite well on his day out;

3 Membury’s Mitzstaff Crazy Cuz.

G (3,1)

1 Walker & Rollin’s Seenworstaff True Grit for Janikastco, red who must have been sent up the mat several times before he decided to show his correct movement which gained him the win in this class, backed up by his excellent head shape & correct bite. He has neat ear carriage when he finds the time to show the judge. He also possesses very good pigmentation, straight well boned forequarters & very well angulated hindquarters. Another who emphasises his overall make & shape when viewed from behind. This highlights the fact that in some cases time must be given to exhibits to see all their virtues. Well done;

2 Boler’s Denagar Jack, topsize red carrying many virtues. He has a very clean head shape, correct forequarters & a well sprung rib cage. His main plus was his movement, so with his overall virtues he should carry on being competitive.

PGD (12,4)

1 Ryan’s Rubericla Black Starscream, b/br with many virtues but doesn’t like to show the judge! I viewed him quite a lot after I had been over him & he constantly showed all his plusses, securing the place in this class. Excellent head shape, correct bite & neat ear carriage. Well boned & correct forequarters & hindquarters with a good topline & well sprung ribcage. I would just like to see him with a little more spark & this will progress his future show career. Good luck;

2 Southworth’s Albermarbull Gambler for Staffmaster, fawn with white who deserved his placing in this class for his virtues. Another with a cracking head shape, correct bite, well pronounced cheek muscles & a very good expression which demands attention. Well boned forequarters & correctly angulated hindquarters. Handled very well;

3 Martinez’s Bullbrothers Fifth Element.

LD (21,4)

1 Beeby & Watson’s Geordiestaff Dynamo Dexter, judged him as a youngster & forecasted a positive show campaign (I was correct). B/ br who highlighted his virtues continuously. Excellent head shape with a correct bite & depth of underjaw which all were enhanced by his expression. Good pigmentation. Correct well boned forequarters with well angulated hindquarters. He also possesses & highlights his good tail carriage along with a level topline & also moved ok to gain this 1st place;

2 English’s Engstaff Hey Joe, dark brindle who gained his placing on his overall soundness. He also possesses a beautiful head shape with a correct bite & eye placement. Well muscled throughout which highlighted his correct shoulder placement & hindquarters. He was also handled very well to enhance his virtues, which paid off today;

3 Gauvain Julien’s Good One Cyril Des Terres D’armor.

OD (9,1)

1 Membury’s Mitzstaff Fun To Flex, dark brindle with white who I have judged in the past where he gained the RCC, I am so relieved I could award him top honours today. Cracking head shape & expression at all times (even more when he misbehaves), perfect teeth, eye placement, underjaw & cheek muscles along with a bit of a grin! He fits the Standard requirements & also highlights further virtues constantly. Good pigmentation, correct well boned forequarters, depth of brisket & spring of rib with well angulated hindquarters. Shows off his good tail carriage while he moves up & down the ring very well. The last time he came under me I mentioned he could have been a little bit sharper. It worked today ha ha. CC & BOB & shortlisted in the Group (which is very rare for the Stafford). Well done & I hope you gain your 3rd CC soon pal;

2 Hedges & Bogovcic’s Ch Suurisuun Boppinghams Birulai, r/w/pied who well deserves the title of Champion. I have seen him on a few occasions in the ring & must confess I was even more pleased when viewing & inspecting him closely today. He has an excellent expression at all times with cleanliness throughout, correct bite & eye placement, well pronounced check muscles & strength in underjaw. Correct well boned forequarters, depth of brisket & spring of rib. He also highlights his topline at all times. Well angulated hindquarters & moved quite well. His handler noticed that I would be viewing throughout the class & constantly handled him correctly to gain him the RCC;

3 Hart’s Albermarbull Ice White.

MPB (10)

1 Canavan’s Boldstock I Foo King Can, dark brindle who already highlights her excellent head shape & expression continuously, correct bite & well pronounced cheek muscles. Well boned forequarters, correct rear angulation & she also maintains her level topline stood & on the move. She carried a little weight today but she is only a youngster & this was accepted. She was well handled & showed throughout the class to gain this win & BPIB & then popped over to gain 3rd in the Terrier Group. A promising future is on the cards. (In the class the handler exhibited her with her front legs incorrectly positioned, could you do this again when I am competing against you!);

2 Plant’s Bethaleese Black Bettina for Kyraloebis, another promising puppy with a good future forecasted. B/br with an excellent head shape & expression & correct bite. Correct forequarters & hindquarters with very good pigmentation. Her overall make & shape gained her the position here, where the winner was slightly more mature at this stage;

3 McClement’s Jodanzac Brindle Pride. Brindle.

PB (6,3)

1 Brindley’s Kimstaff’s Sarafina, very pretty b/br & well behaved at her first show. Well done to the handler for not putting any pressure on her but still gaining 1st in this class which was deserved. Very clean throughout & possesses all the requirements in her head shape with a very good expression. Her pigmentation is fantastic & her topline is very good for this currently immature girl. She also has correct fore & rear quarters which enabled her to move quite neatly. Currently with all her plusses she only requires maturity, which is definitely coming;

2 Legate’s Kimstaff’s Sarabi, dark br/w with the much required neat feminine head shape & correct bite. Straight well boned forequarters & correctly angled rear quarters with a good topline to blend in. She also has good pigmentation. Another with a bright future. She was also handled extremely well;

3 Kennedy’s Hartestaff Red Hot Success.

JB (11,2)

1 Williams’ Canakey Sweet Cool Delight, pied whose overall balance won her this class. Very good head shape when close inspections are taken, her markings tend to give you a different judgement from a distance but when close up all the requirements are there, it’s just her markings that try to shadow the fact she has virtue in abundance. Correct well boned forequarters & sprung rib cage & well angulated hindquarters. She maintains her level topline stood & moving & then I moved her up the ring & WOW! She really highlights all her plusses with her totally correct movement & perfect handling;

2 Turner’s Manark Mayhem, dark br/w with lovely feminine head shape, correct bite, neat ears & an excellent expression right through the class. Very good overall & well balanced with a good topline & moved quite well. Another with a bright future. Her overall quality assisted in winning the next class;

3 Wall & Webb’s Manark Molly’s Legacy.

YB (13,1)

1 M Mayhem;

2 Wilson’s Bullhawk Jessie Jay at Northstaff, b/br of athletic overall make & shape. She has a beautiful head shape & tremendous expression throughout the class. Correct forequarters & rearquarters & her topline was OK. Handled extremely well;

3 Ryan’s Rubericla Little Bumblebee.

GB (3)

1 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Masud Tumaini, standard size black brindle. Again an excellent feminine head shape & expression with neat ear placement. Correct front quarters & well angulated hindquarters. When stood she highlights her correct make & shape;

2 Desmond’s Elitebull Elegance, b/br. Again the required correct head shape & expression. Front quarters & hindquarters are also correct. Her topline is perfect & she moves quite well. Handled very well;

3 Papworth’s Tiezelstaffs Moonshine Red.

PGB (8,2)

1 Brigden’s Hammystaff Heaven Knows, r/w who highlights her overall soundness constantly. Her overall colour is gorgeous. Very good head shape & expression. Correct topline & hindquarters, well sprung rib cage & depth of brisket. She also moved quite well. A little practice would make her spot on, she naturally stood foursquare at all times which demanded attention throughout the class;

2 Southall’s Dynastaff Black Velvet, b/br. Another lady with a very good head shape & expression & excellent pigmentation. Front quarters & hindquarters all tie in which enabled her to move OK;

3 Skelly’s Skelstaff Miss Moneypenny.

LB (16,2)

1 Mignano-Fricker & Fricker’s Pantycelyn Just A Dream of Calavey, dark brindle who continuously shows you her virtues. Very neat feminine head shape, correct bite & depth of underjaw along with well pronounced cheek muscles, constantly highlighted her expression. Excellent pigmentation. Well boned forequarters, good depth of brisket & correct hindquarters. She moved OK. If any requirements, a little weight off her waist to enhance her overall make & shape from all angles. Well deserved RCC gained on her overall soundness. Won’t be long now;

2 Byrnes’ Lackyle Bean Olc, dark brindle who fits the Standard like a glove. I awarded her BOB in Southern Ireland when she was in Junior & again she emphasised her virtues throughout. Neatest of ear carriage, clean feminine head shape with a super expression which seemed to be highlighted to me constantly. Correct forequarters & topline, strong angulated hindquarters & a well sprung ribcage. She also moved OK. Close call;

3 Quinn’s Bowferry Life On Mars.

OB (14,4)

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Ch Taraiel Ciara, b/br with an excellent head shape throughout, perfect eye position, well pigmented & a perfect bite. She constantly produced her expression with her neat ear carriage when stood & moving, taking in every object constantly which certainly emphasised her overall virtues. Well pigmented throughout. Correct well boned forequarters & feet with depth of brisket required to combine with her overall make & shape. She also highlights her correct well pronounced hindquarters when stood & moving. She is in perfect condition & her coat is absolutely fantastic which with all these plusses gained her the BCC. I must admit when I have seen her in the past I actually thought she must be carrying some fault that had given the decision to eradicate her from the top placing, now I find it unbelievable that that has happened;

2 Winwood & Tunnah’s Cursus Summer Storm, b/br who I awarded a RCC when she was a puppy & I never looked back at this. She well deserves the Champion title basically for her overall soundness & movement. Cracking clean head shape, well pronounced cheek muscles & correct bite. The remainder all flows correctly with her forequarters & rearquarters, good topline & very good movement. I do understand the handler is under a lot of pressure with her being on 2 CCs, but just relax & she will make the title of Champion which will be richly deserved. In future highlight her movement more;

3 Wilson’s Eclypstaff There You Go at Kalverin.
