STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE DOGS NATIONAL TERRIER 14

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

DOGS – For many years this all terrier show has been thought of as a highly desirable one in terms of judging our breed, so I considered myself very fortunate to have been offered this opportunity to judge dogs. My thanks to the committee for this honour & the excellent hospitality afforded to myself & my wife. All in all a very pleasant day, the entry was pretty good, my stewards were very capable & in spite of the general feeling in the breed that, at the moment, quality dogs are rather scarce – surprise, surprise, I didn’t have any problems in picking out my winners, who I felt had many of the virtues fitting my interpretation of the Standard. Of course, as we all well know, not everyone’s interpretation is going to be the same, but since I was the one in the hot seat on the day my opinion is the one on offer.

MP

1 Freeman & Davis’ Samtan Simbas Legacy, attractive brindle with white blaze on chest, decent size for just 7 months old, has a well defined head & pleasing expression, dark eyes, neat ears & clean bite, enough width in front, ample rib, level topline & a nicely set on tail. Needs to get a little more ring schooling but moved OK once he settled;

2 Barke’s Rubicanov Wot A Cracker, b/br, much heavier build than 1 & overall picture spoilt by carrying too much weight, which tends to destroy his balance, he has a good head shape, broad muzzle, dark round eyes, good ear placement, deep brisket & is well ribbed, finishing off with strong backend. Handler worked hard to get the best out of him;

3 Thomspon’s Alport Hallo Man.

P

1 Houghton’s Belterstaff Ginger Joe, smart looking red with a white chest & one white sock, very well handled to show off his obvious qualities, good headed youngster with nice expression due to his dark eyes & neat well placed ears. Liked his compact body, good shoulder placement, clean outline, level topline & good movement. Should have a promising future. BP & RBPIS;

2 Booth & Grimwood’s Ramblestaff Just Like Eddy, b/br with nice head shape & strong muzzle, a bit younger than 1 & not quite as mature but good clean front, well boned legs & tight feet, body developing satisfactorily, short back with good hindquarters. Moved & handled well, another one to keep an eye on;

3 Miller’s Deldenas Black Shadow.

J

1 Southern’s Waystaff Ministry Of Excellence, r/w pied with definite appeal, strong depth through head, good stop, correct mouth, dark round eyes set to look straight ahead, finished off with neat well placed ears creating a keen expression. Good width to front, clean shoulders & well developed rib, short back, decent rearquarters & tight feet. Presented in tip-top condition & moved well both ways, holding a level topline;

2 Blacker’s Bullrichs Bismarck at Crossguns, topsize, deep solid red with b/m, good headed dog with lovely dark eyes, correct bite, nice tight lip, small rose ears, straight front, well muscled rearquarters. Moved & handled OK, but felt 1 had the advantage in overall balance;

3 Clarke & Travers’ Briganah Black Chieftain.

Y

1 Payton’s Tonpay Barmy Army, b/br, Standard size, with a powerful head, good ratio of muzzle to skull, complimented by dark eyes set to look straight ahead & neat rose ears. True in front, nicely developed rib & good muscletone to hindquarters with well bent stifles. Very typy animal, handled well & moved with drive;

2 Hale, Kemp & Thomas’ Caymenstaff Carlos Way, b/br, a bit more on the leg than 1, well developed body & good boned front legs with tight feet. He has a lovely shaped head, good mouth, clean lips & alert expression. Held a level topline both standing & on the move. Just felt he needed a tad more weight to balance him out;

3 Fulford’s Elitebulls Heartbreaker for Regalbull.

N

1 R Wot A Cracker.

G

1 William’s Jodel’s Fernando, deep red with dark mask, coat texture excellent. Good size, pleasing head with desired ratio of muzzle to skull, correct bite, neat ears, true in front, deep brisket, ample rib, nicely tucked up. Handled well & on second attempt at moving, he demonstrated his soundness;

2 Hall’s Geordiestaff Canny Laddie, b/br with white on chest, close decision for first place & could easily be reversed on another occasion. Well balanced dog throughout, strong head with good eye & ear placement, nicely bodied up, but a trifle longer in back than 1. OK for rib & hindquarters, with well bent stifles. Moved well;

3 Thisby’s Dogumentary’s Thunder.

PG

1 Stone & Bruton’s Zakstaff Rumour Has It, imposing b/br, with a definite attitude, luckily he has an experienced handler who manages to keep him under control so that you get the chance to observe his obvious qualities. Strong shapely head, deep through, short strong muzzle of correct ratio to skull as well as having good dentition with the desired large teeth, dark piercing eyes & nicely set neat ears which gives him a wicked expression. He has a good width of chest, well laid back shoulders & is well off for rib, good tuck-up & well muscled hindquarters which enable him to move with drive & purpose (when he decides to behave), which in the end was the deciding factor in awarding him the CC. BOB in full agreement with bitch judge, Archie Bryden;

2 Barren’s Worrinoko’s Spirit Of Jazz, smart looking b/w pied who caught my eye as he came into the ring, nice Standard size, presented in great condition. Head of good proportions, lovely dark round eyes & small rose ears. Liked his compact body, well covered but no excess weight, good shoulder placement & level topline. Moved & handled expertly but couldn’t compete with the impression made by the lively winner;

3 Muir & Quinn’s Diamonds Of Blanch Rium Black Steel.

L

1 Matviakova & Choma’s Satip Sorboss at Vrabarbull, quality b/br fitting the Standard well for size, a compact body, is short coupled & scores visually with nice clean lines of the balanced blend of bull & terrier, no exaggerations. He has a strong head, portraying strength without coarseness, a distinct stop & blunt muzzle housing a good set of large teeth. A typical expression created by his dark round eyes & well positioned neat thin ears. Standing & moving holds a level topline & moved parallel with his muscled rearquarters. Put up in superb hard condition. Worthy RCC winner. However, in the challenge just lost out on movement – if only he could have been a bit more enthusiastic!;

2 McKnight’s Sunset Blaze Of Glory from Belnite, solid red, soundly constructed & presented well. Good head, nice dark eye giving an alert expression, strong neck flowing into well placed shoulders, straight front, good feet, decent rib & nice bend of stifles, well set on tail. With patience handler got the best out of him moving;

3 Booth & Grimwood’s Ramblestaff Dirty Cash.

O

1 Plant’s Ch Kyraloebis Italian Gigalo, smart b/br, white mark on chest. Gave this dog a MP class in 2011 & he certainly has fulfilled all the promise he showed in those early days, not at all surprised he achieved top honours. Beautiful headpiece, well defined, dark eyes & the smallest of ears which he uses well to give an attentive expression. Nicely bodied up, short back, level topline & powerful hindquarters with well bent stifles enabling him to move well;

2 Houwaart’s Jecanibo’s Ki-Adi-Mundi, b/br of Standard size, displaying good breed type, not the head of 1 or the expression, but nevertheless has plenty of virtue, nice length of foreface to skull, correct bite, large white teeth, neat rose ears. Body compact, ample rib & short coupled as well as holding a level topline. Moved OK;

3 Hedges & Bogovcic’s Ch Suurisuun Boppinghams Birulai.
