STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE DOGS NATIONAL TERRIER 13

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

DOGS – Good temperaments, one of the most important characteristics of the breed, were evident throughout. Most exhibits were in fit condition which owners should take credit for in view of the poor weather conditions recently which would have curtailed regular exercise patterns. Handling was to a good standard & I was pleased to see the presentation of puppies is less regimented these days which enables these youngsters to enjoy their introduction to showing. There are a few concerns which should be highlighted: in the early classes some exhibits lacked type & thin splayed feet are still much in evidence. In some cases this can be improved by exercise but only if the pads are of correct substance to begin with. In the higher classes there were a number of dogs with poor coats & dirty teeth though mouths were correct on the whole.

MP (7)

1 Stone & Bruton’s Zakstaff Rumour Has It, b/br, just 6 months, pleasing head shape with round dark eye, correct stop & well placed ears, clean lipped with no excess flesh on muzzle, straight front, correct shoulder placement & level topline, shaping up well for his age;

2 Thomas’ Samtan Black Justice, dark brindle with white chest, similar to 1 again with no exaggerations & well balanced, round dark eye in good shaped head, straight front, well off for bone, very good bend of stifle, an overall smart dog, moved well;

3 Higgins’ Acrestafo’grady.

P (9)

1 Payton’s Tonpay Barmy Army, dark brindle with white, sound little dog who fits the Standard well, strong head shape, cheek bumps well on the way, dark eye & good stop, short neck well boned straight forelegs, level topline & free mover. BP;

2 Stanway’s Waystaff What A Cracker, his name suits him, mahogany brindle with white chest, lovely dark eye & pleasing expression, straight front, good bend of stifle, level topline held on the move, short close coat, very well handled, a promising puppy, little separated him from 1;

2 Kimber’s Kimstaff’s Harry Potter, compact dark brindle with strong skull, neat ears correctly placed & defined stop, no exaggerations, sufficient bone throughout with level topline & bend of stifle, broad front & well sprung rib. Moved OK but would like to see feet tighten up more;

G (8)

1 Muir & Quinn’s Diamonds of Blanch Rium Black Steel, attractive b/br with lovely head shape, rose ears, dark eye & strong skull, particularly good close shiny coat, sufficient depth of brisket & shoulder angulation, level topline, neatest of tails, moved soundly & with purpose;

2 G Dymano Dexter;

3 T Analyze This.

PG (6)

There were only four exhibits present in this class of which the first three placings are Crufts qualifiers. In my opinion there were two dogs present worthy of the qualifier. The two remaining dogs, when going over them, demonstrated sufficient merit for structured placings but, on this occasion, not a qualifier. If a third placing is withheld, no further placings may be made. I did not consider that the exhibits, in general, demonstrated the overall quality expected in a PG class, therefore it was my decision to withhold 1st place & to judge all dogs present in order of merit. The top placed dog, if unbeaten, could challenge for the CC.

My top placing was Nicholson’s Zoeillies Northern Star for Ballindona, rich red dog with white chest, dark eye & strong head with good muzzle & correct stop, short neck going into well placed shoulders, level topline, good bend of stifle, sound driving movement;

3 King’s Kylorda Kalil.

L (17)

Best class of the day.

1 Cartwright’s Zakstaff Game On, quality b/br with strong head shape & lovely expression, dark eyes & rose earset, wide front with straight forelimbs & deep chest, excellent coat & body in fit condition, pleasing when viewed from all angles, close coupled with strong hindquarters, pump handle tail, well set though carried a little high on the move, never stopped showing. RCC;

2 Robbins’ Antroboss In The Red with Jakataffs, another dog of quality, red in tip-top condition, fits the Standard well with broad skull, short foreface & round dark eye, straight forelimbs & broad chest with good spring of rib, good topline & bend of stifle, very nice mover & handled to advantage;

3 Lewis’ Charmonics Regal Lad.

O (16)

1 Marachowska & Marachowski’s Ch Kalhols Black Magic at Passernomen, b/br who never stopped showing & demanded attention, excellent well balanced head with strong muzzle & underjaw & well defined stop, round eyes & neat ears on broad skull, wide chest & sound straight forelegs, well up on pasterns, good spring of rib & close coupled when side viewed, strong hindquarters & driving powerful movement. CC;
