STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE DOGS MANCHESTER 18

I thoroughly enjoyed my day Judging and my thanks are extended to the Society, my Ring Stewards and especially the exhibitors and spectators. There was a huge amount to like here and the depth of quality in some of the classes was impressive. I certainly didn't find it hard to find good uns so to speak and I must say I was impressed with the possibility of good, sound, typey stock coming from these males; put together with the array of good bitches we have, the future must look bright. I found a very small number of mouth faults such as misaligned or crooked teeth, and just one undershot with canine tips missing otherwise teeth were strong and clean with correct bite. Good physiques overall and coat conditions considering its winter, but the obvious good feeding and management of these dogs has kept them in good fettle.

MPD (11,1)

1. Desmond's Elitebulls Challenger B/Br just shy of 9 months. Very nice looking young dog with attributes oozing from every angle. Top of the height/build standard. Loved his front on assembly and his balanced, strong headpiece with distinct stop. Pleasing expression coming from good round dark eye placement and very neat ear set. Skull and head was clean without any looseness of flesh. Correct bite with strong clean teeth. Enough strength of underjaw without being exaggerated. Straight well boned front into good feet. Up on his pasterns, good width of chest and ample forechest for one so young. Correct depth to his brisket and shapely rib developing well. Balanced body with good outline. Tucked up into well covered loin following into strong well shaped rear quarters. Lovely bend of stifle and well let down in hock. Moved very well with parallel action and with drive. Gave his handler a challenge at times when moving but his handler did get the very best from him and presented him expertly. He was in top condition with excellent coat and a credit to his owner. This young dog will trouble the best as he matures. He was just a whisper away for being considered for higher honours today. He certainly rocked my boat for one so young. Was very happy to award him Best Puppy Dog and with the agreement of my co Judge Best Puppy in Breed.

2. Johnson's Tillcarr Fire Coanda B/br and one of the youngest in the class at just a tad over 6 months and yet he gave the winner a run for his money. Really pleasing looking youngster with a lot to like here. Fits the standard well for proportions and size. He has a defined balanced head with good shape and distinct stop. Lovely expression from well set eye and ears. Very handsome youngster who is easy on the eye. Correct bite. He has strength of underjaw. Well boned straight front and good solid well padded feet. Plenty of width to his chest. When viewed from side his outlines are pleasing, with correct drop of brisket, level topline, nice shape up into his well covered loin. Very nice body proportions giving a picture of balance. His hindquarters are developing well and have good tone, definition and shape for his age. He is an all round good looking animal who was very pleasing to examine. His handler showed him expertly and he responded well with good driving movement and clean motion. Presented in top condition. Another youngster who shows much promise and will be one to watch in the future.

OD (13,1)

1. Higham's Callastaff Lakeland LAD B/Br who is quite captivating as a top quality example of breed type. He has an air of regal arrogance as he stands freely, enticing you to look and look again, which I did. Very balanced blend of bull and terrier straight out of the top drawer. His clean head piece shows good depth and width of skull, deep through muzzle and of balanced proportions with a defined stop. Length of muzzle in comparison to his skull was for me spot on; no exaggeration no excess flesh just classic head profile. He has a pleasing expression with well set dark round eyes and the neatest of ears. Correct teeth and bite with good underjaw. I liked his front on appearance with smooth lines from good shoulder into straight well boned front assembly and neat feet with good pads. Up on his pasterns and looking alert at all times. Looking at him from the side his profile showed good underline, with correct depth of brisket and shapely tuck up into well covered loin. A picture of good all round balance and structure. Good bend to his stifle and let down of hock. Well muscled shapely rear with good inner and outer thigh. He moved with drive and purpose, parallel fore and aft. Stood foursquare with an imposing profile. Extremely eye catching dog who is one to challenge the best. Typical example of the breed for me and one who will go on to please many a Judge as theres such a lot to admire here. His handler knows just how to get the best from him but his ring presence and many attributes were there for all to see. A compendium of distinction and class. A real credit to his breeders and owners. He competed well in this class and for the Challenge and with no hesitation resulted in my awarding him the Dog CC and with the Referees decision BEST OF BREED. He also went on the take Group 3 in the Terrier Group - a fantastic day all round for a top notch dog.

2. McClelland's Ch Rochlawie Behold The Hour JW Br with white flash on chest. A striking dog who actually pushed hard for first place. His overall breed type is classic, with quality throughout and he fits the standard very well. Such a fine example to go over and examine. Nice tuck up into well covered loin. His topline was level which he showed both on the move and when stood. Well muscled hind with defined shape and tone of inner and outer thigh.
