STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 22

Judge M Southall (Beckash)

I would like to Thank the officers and committee for giving me the opportunity to Judge at their show. Thankyou to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to assess your dogs and taking my awards in good sport. Thank you to my stewards who helped make the day go smoothly. Overall the quality of the dogs has improved however there are a couple of observations that I found. Firstly there appears to be creeping into our breed light eyed exhibits, our breed standard stipulates Dark preferred but may bear some relation to coat colour. Fitness of the exhibits could have been better, again with fitness comes strength and muscles, also in our breed standard. I only found a couple of exhibits with tight canines, but hopefully this will not become a norm.

This being said I was pleased with my main winners who all placed TG2 Well done to you.

VD 3-0

1 Mr & Mrs C+J Lewis --- CH Biggleswick Splash of Ginge

Standard sized red dog in stunning condition for his age. Great front and width between forelegs, depth to the brisket, muscled shoulders without being overdone. His head is very nice, well defined stop without exaggeration, dark eye and correct bite, with neat little ears. Well sprung rib cage which led to well muscled rear end and well let down hocks. Moved with ease and was pleased to place best veteran and VTG2.

2 Mr &Mrs A&L Mayren---CH Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs JW

Standard red and white pied dog again in excellent condition. Nice shaped head. Dark round eye, good cheeks, and good stop. Mouth correct. He has enough bone to balance, good width to his front, and a good sized rib cage. Showed and handled well. On another day 1st and second could have been reversed Just preferred movement of 1 on the day.

3 Miss & Mr G &D Rowe & South---Illori Akinlana JW SH CM VW

MPD 4-2

Miss S Stevens--- Ronjac Rob Roy Mcgregor

1 Black Brindle with a nice head piece and rose ears. Well defined cheek muscles and correct dentition. Nice shape of eye. Adequate chest for age. Well laid shoulders leading to a good spring of rib. Level top line, which led to well muscled on the rear, ok for bone, moved well back and forth. Still very much a puppy but a lot to like.

2 Miss H Grant---Shamara Protego Diabolica

Brindle dog at 6.5 months. Still very much a baby and has lots of time for growing. Finer than no 1, head in proportion to body with rose ears slightly elevated but this is probably due to teething and will settle when they are through. Nicely balanced puppy, correct size, make and shape, not so forward as first for maturity, correct angles back and forth, a little difficult to assess on the move.

PD 4-1

1 Mrs K and Miss J Wilson---Northstaff Nightmare

Black with White. Very typical of the breed type that I like. Pleasing head shape. Great expression and pigmentation, correct ears and dark eyes, correct bite with large teeth, well sprung rib, and the straightest of top lines, enough rear angulation to give the drive from the rear, balanced for his age. In first class condition and handled very well. BPD BPIB and TPG2

2 Mr L Sharman---Callastaff Sharmz Boy

Black Brindle. Another Puppy that I really liked The apple doesn't fall far from the tree with both dam and sire of this boy being champions you can certainly see the qualities from both. 1 Mr K Davis & C Booth--- Shamara Patronus Charm

Brown Brindle just into minor puppy, has a presence about her to look and look again. Smaller than what I usually would choose but all there in proportions still very much a baby. Head developing, ears neat, muzzle correct in length with correct scissor bite, rib is coming. Level on the move and muscles are developing. Handler was worked hard with this one, but she will learn quickly.

2 Mr A Mortimer--- Luthais Loch Birnie at Manorstaff

Black Brindle 8 months. Liked the look of this lady in the presentation, but was difficult to assess when presented, with some training she may well take some places. I was unable to see the mouth or go over her but from a free stand she has a lovely clean head with neat ears. Ample width to chest and good depth of bone. She was short in coupling and hocks were well let down, She made her handler work hard on the move and during the presentations.
