STAFFORDSHIRE BULL BOURNEMOUTH 21 Judge: Mr F Kane STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE BOURNEMOUTH 21 Thank you for the very good entry, and I appreciated the very sporting atmosphere around the ring, applauding the winners making it a very enjoyable experience for me. I thought that some of the classes were very strong and the challenge line-ups were reflective of this: the unbeaten bitches were really good and it was hard to dismiss any of them. On the negative side I found some dentition which was not regular and some exhibits would benefit from more ring training to show off their movement and their carriage: it does make a difference. Apart from that I appreciated the excellent coat condition and muscle tone on the majority of exhibits – a pleasure to handle. Huge thanks to my really excellent and supportive stewards, Ted Whitehill and his colleague. 1 Hammond’s Hammystaff Red Revenge. 8 months red, full of type and forward for his age. Strong head, correct bite. Excellent chest and ribcage. Correct topline held on the move. Went well. Should have a good future. Pressed very hard for best puppy, just a touch of puppy softness held him back. 2 Hands & Wyatt’s Skyestaff Winter Soldier. Brindle with beautiful head and expression. I liked him a lot but he is not as forward in rib and chest as the winner. 3 Emery’s Casails Like A Hurricane. 1 Boggins Luthais Loch Tay. 10 months b/brindle who is full of quality. Shapely body in excellent condition. Correct front assembly with good chest and matched by good quarters. Good head and eye. I see he is by my previous BOB winner Cometh The Hour – Best Puppy. 2 Howe’s Brinstar Red Marauder. 10 months red, a touch longer for balance. Athletic and firm. Can fill out in front and this showed in his front action. 1 Fairhurst & Fairhurst’s Fairlenium’s American Pie. 15 months pied dog which appealed for proportions and balance. Strong skull and deep throat. Excellent bone and feet. Moved very well at both ends. Strong topline. Scored in couplings and balance here. 2 Page & Page’s Karwillage Last Emperor. 17 months, slightly rangier than the winner, but good rib and short couplings. Looks a teenager and can come on well. 3 Clark & Ortizo’s Powerpack Lachlan Dorin. 1 Norton’s Taraiel Stormzy Of Tikkurilan. 19 months, in superb muscular condition and skin tone. Full of quality from his head, excellent forehand to correct topline and tailset. When he settled he moved very well. A little more schooling would enhance him even more. 2 Clark & Ortizo’s Powerpack Lachlan Dorin. 12 months dog of lovely type, he looks his age and can fill out generally. Good head proportions, good eye. Scored on the move. Can settle in tail carriage. 1 Courtney & Slamon McGoey Valglo My Place Or Yours At Bullscaff. 15 months, a first experience for dog and owners, shown in good condition. A little short in the leg for balance. His hocks need to strengthen. Disapoointing class. 1 Norris’ Labrastaf Magma At Haidastaff. 23 months, need more leg to balance and his muzzle is a touch short. Sound moving. Scored in dentition. 2 Thomas’ Sunnystone Limited Edition. 4 year old heavier type. 1 Gray’s Sikaistaff Shadow Warrior At Maidendale. 2 year old b/brindle compact and short coupled. Good skill and deep through but muzzle a little short. Moved well to win this. 2 Walker’s Georgie Poergie Pops At Teshleystaf. 2 year old red, bigger type. Good head qualities but unsettled both standing and moving. MLD (5, 1) 1 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Papinashuash JW. 5 year old brindle which I would prefer with a touch more leg underneath him for perfect balance but he was the best mover in the class and this coupled with a balanced head, correct topline and tail carriage won him the class. 2 Pitas Satip Jozin Z Bazin. Looked the winner standing for his good balance. I liked his head though his eyes could be a shade darker. Didn’t settle to get into a collected trot and handler could have done more for him. 3 Funnell’s Powerpack Tam O’Shanter JW. Excellent class for depth of quality. 1 Arntzen & Manito Catstaff`S Used To. 2 year old with great ring presence and gave me “the look” – beautiful head and expression from these dark, correctly shaped eyes. Excellent forehand. Completely balanced, in hard muscular condition. Moved well with great spirit. DCC & BOB. 2 Thomas & Grif Gazstaff’s Black Magic. Another lovely dog with great appeal in headpiece and balance. Pressed hard but he had not the co-ordination of the winner on the move. 3 Plumstead’s Callastaff Son Of The Moon. 1 Johnson’s Ch Tillcarr Fire Coanda JW. 4 year old who stood away here – bone, feet, chest, defined waist and good quarters with a very good strong, well proportioned head. In great condition. Well schooled to slow off his accurate movement. RDCC, just pipped by the extra presence and spirit of the limit winner. 2 Hillman’s Chalexstaff The Heathen JW. Very good type and movement and gleamed with condition. Full of quality. 3 Dawe’s Marstaff Sundance Kid. 1 Ellis’ Gogo Dancer. 22 months red bitch, shapely and balanced. Feminine head which has strength to it. Just enough bone but feet could be better. Good ribcage and defined waist. Went well and shown well by her young handler. BSB. 2 Courtney & Slamon McGoey Valglo My Place Or Yours At Bullscaff. Repeat. 1 Hands & Freeman’s Skyestaff She Conquered. 8 months winning here on her proportions and excellent head and eye. Excellent feet but I would prefer just a touch more bone. Can settle in topline but has a lot of promise. 2 Marshall’s Marstaff Lone Rider. 6 months, strongly boned red with good chest for her age. Well put together. I preferred head of the winner who was more co-ordinated here. 3 Bunt & Noonan’s Skyestaff Fall Into Line. 1 Asker’s Dazmarnic Because I Can. 11 months red who needs to lose a little weight to give her more defined body shape. She is well constructed and moves well at both ends. Head needs time to finish. 2 Mitchell’s Vimaval Red Angel. 11 months red, whose head I preferred but hard to assess her on the move and needs some schooling to be seen to advantage. 1 Johnson’s Tillcarr Kissed By Fire. Beautiful 15 months old, very much the type of bitch I liked, strong yet feminine with lovely head and expression. Excellent chest and rib cage and couplings. Held her shape on the move. One for the future. 2 Jones & Merrick’s Magicgem Queen Of Hearts At Rougestaff. 17 months red of lovely proportions. Sufficient bone. In excellent coat and condition. I liked her headpiece. Not as defined in topline as the winner. 3 Stevens’ Boldstock Bump & Grind At Ronjac. 1 Bibby & Hirst’s Taraiel Dua Lipa. 21 months, an eyeful of breed type for me. Loved her head and expression. Good chest with well-placed shoulder and elbows well placed under her. Excellent ribs and couplings and well angulated quarters which she uses well. Shape held on the mover, excellent movement, spirited but controlled. Beautiful! BCC. 2 Efreme’s Labrastaf Afterdark At Bindyestaff. Another very good bitch of 23 months. Beautiful head and expression. She is not as finished in rib and chest as the winner. 3 Ellis’ Gogo Dancer. 1 Funnell’s Powerpack Morgan Le Fay. 12 months, reserve in the junior class. She has the framework to make a very good bitch with correct leg length and proportions but needs time to fill the frame. Scored in quarters and muzzle to win this. 2 Daly-Lees’ Boscador Flaming Warrior. 2 year old brindle, well bodied but a little e short in the leg. Needs to strengthen in her hocks. Good class for quality. 1 Wells’ Taraiel Ray Of Light At Wellsstaffs. Top sized bitch, but she is ultra sound and well put together and this is evident on the move. Strong head and good expression. Everything in proportion. In great form. Quality bitch. 2 Hopkins’ Raspberry Ripple Of Spirit Staffs To Trufflestaff. 3 year old red I liked her size, proportions and movement. Good skull, eye and expression. Not the underjaw of the winner. 3 Jackson’s Jackabyte Decadence. 1 Hopkins’ Raspberry Ripple Of Spirit Staffs To Trufflestaff. Repeat. 1 Hopkins’ Raspberry Ripple Of Spirit Staffs To Trufflestaff. Repeat. 2 Funnell’s Powerpack Alura Finvarra JW. Bigger bitch with lovely forehand, head and expression. Could be shorter in body and shorter coupled for my taste. Sound on the move and particularly good in chest and front action. 1 Jackson’s Jackabyte Bocouture JW. Beautiful bitch all through, the shape, balance and outlook that I like. Very good ribcage, defined waist and good quarters. Went well. Made the final cut in the line-up of high quality bitches. 2 Asker’s Dazmarnic Daisy Duke. Pied bitch who was a touch heavy in body but appealed for her size, proportions and excellent movement. Feminine head. 3 Gallagher’s Eclypstaff Thumbelina. Great class. 1 Emery’s Eclypstaff Strange Magic For Casails. Feminine quality bitch in great condition, full of type and holds her shape well on the move where she is very accurate. I liked her body shape, quarters, bone and feet. In the challenge I just preferred the head type and chest of the yearling but this was a close thing. RBCC. 2 Jones’ Chiswelstaff Black Velvet At Kamaristaff JW. Pressed the winner all the way and is a little more finished in chest but the winner just edged her out on the move today. 3 Gardner’s Ballindona Fab’u’luss For Labrastaf. 1 Turner’s Tidestaff Mystical Magic. 11 years, still sound and shapely. Excellent clean dentition a credit to her owner. BV. I will long remember the day for several reasons, but principally the sportsmanship, the cheer that greeted the winner of open bitch – her genuine joy at the win and the support of her fellow exhibitors. When I signed the Reserve CC for her, I said I hoped that it wasn’t a disappointment after winning the strong open class, she said (amidst tears) “How could this be a disappointment?” Such appreciation is refreshing. Good sportsmanship in a breed makes showing (and judging) so much more enjoyable – long may it remain the norm in the Staffordshire Bull Terrier World.
