STAFFORDSHIRE BULL BOURNEMOUTH 12 Judge: Mrs C J H Lee BEST OF BREED : 4908 DAVIES Mr M Sebsonic Shinealight At Stormbull JW STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE BOURNEMOUTH 12 STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER A very sporting group of exhibitors & spectators took the vagaries of the weather in their stride and appeared appreciative of my decisions. Quality was very high in some classes but very variable in others. Some of the untypical characteristics I found were actually created or at least exaggerated by poor handling, why will some of you insist upon turning the front feet forward or even inward, when the animals who are correctly made for a Stafford, want to turn their front feet slightly outwards. At the rear end things get even worse. A Stafford should naturally stand with his feet directly underneath him i.e. in a line down from his pelvis. I realise that some animals are over-angulated and need to have their back legs stretched out behind them in order to create a level top-line, but often this is not the case. Handlers seem to think that the most important thing they have to do is create a straight line from the point of the hock to the ground. In fact when the Stafford is allowed to have his feet under him there is a very slight angle down from the point of the hock to the edge of the rear pad, the hocks are in other words pointing down. Then the dog is ready to spring into action. Some of the bitches were a lovely outline but frankly a bit too light for me, I fear for their front legs snapping if they have any sort of accident. PD (3) 1 Morgan's Jones Mountarw The Prodigal Son. Very promising brindle puppy. Nice height for his age. Stands four square. Good head shape, dark eye, neat ears. Strong front, nice spring of rib for his age, well bent stifles. Moved well. 2 Janssen's Staffmate Around The World. Lovely shape to this brindle youngster's head, wide skull, deep throughout, good stop, round eye if a bit small. Good straight front which still has to develop fully, good bone. Body coming on nicely for his age. Moved with confidence and style. 3 Hopkins' Trufflestaff Kirchro Yuzuki. JD (8,2) 1 Lewis' Charmonics Regal Lad. Very nice young dog, upstanding, strong and yet cleanly made brindle with white markings. Correct head shape with proper ratio of foreface to skull, round eye and well placed rose ears. Clean shoulders leading to well boned legs. Front yet has to 'drop' which will improve his brisket. Good spring of rib, short coupling, level top-line, moved well. 2 Nicholson's Rowansblac Luvly Jubbly for Ballindona JW. Shorter, thicker set young brindle. Very strong head, good cheek bumps, deep throughout. Dark eye, well placed ears. Good bone, nice width of chest, short coupled body, slightly over angulated rear quarters. Did not move with conviction. 3 Muir & Quinn's Diamonds of Blanch Rium Black Steel. YD (6,1) A great variation of sizes i.e. height in this class. 1 Fulford's Staffstyle Burning Heart at Bokido. What an eye catcher is this red/white dog from the upper end of the height standard. Lovely head shape - good stop, round eye, depth throughout, correct ratio of foreface to skull. Well placed shoulders giving width to his front, nice bone and enough spring of rib. Well bent stifle, moved well, all set in a good tight short coated body. 2 Winwood & Tunnah's Antroboss Tempesta Nera. Another good young brindle. Shade smaller than 1. Very nice head shape and dark eye and neat ears. Bone good and front true. Unfortunately stood slightly pin toed, I think handlers can help here. Short coupled well ribbed body. Not a very happy boy and moved a bit close behind. 3 Muir & Quinn's Diamonds of Blanch Rium Black Steel. GD (3,1) 1 Hopkins' Trufflestaff Kichro Yuzuki. Black brindle dog of strength. Good shape to his head - good stop being the fulcrum point of course. Ears rather big even for his well developed head! Level top-line, somewhat long coat. 2 Robbins' Antroboss In The Red With Jakataffs. Red with a well shaped if rather large head. Ears could be neater. Rib ok but couplings could be shorter. Moved well. PGD (10,3) 1 Harkin's Listcall Uncle Buck in Harkline. Compact black brindle. Very well shaped head, good stop. Dark eye, good neck leading into clean shoulders. Good bone, enough spring of rib. Well bent stifles, moved well. 2 Bruton's Zakstaff Dark Knight. Beautiful head on this black brindle dog. Good stop, good cheek bumps, depth through his foreface which is of the correct ratio to the skull, neat ears. Well laid back shoulders and enough bone for his size. In excellent condition. Hind quarters well angulated and well muscled. Just wish he had relaxed standing and shown a better top-line. Close decision here and placings could change on another occasion. 3 Thurston's Pasgal Ain't Too Proud To Beg. LD (7) 1 Ogbourne's Welshstaff Credit Crunch. Classy, compact standard size brindle. Excellent, clean head with good stop and round eye giving him a correct expression. Good length of muzzle and deep into the bargain without lip. Neat ears. Strong neck of enough length. Well placed shoulder, good bone and well padded feet. Nice spring of rib and well bent, well muscled hind quarters. Moved cleanly and with drive. Close decision but eventually awarded him Reserve CC. 2 Johnson's Tillcarr Fire Marshall. Upstanding brindle. Very good head shape and nice expression. Well boned and straight front assembly. Rib O.K. but will spring a bit more when fully mature. Short coupling presented a square picture. Moved well. 3 Bruton's Zakstaff Black Baron. OD (12,2) 1 Corcoran's Ir Ch Zakstaff Whats The Story. Very strong, compact black brindle. The shapeliest of heads set off by correctly placed, rose ears. Good strong neck leading to well placed shoulders. Good bone, well padded strong feet. Good spring of rib. Short couplings gave a square picture. Well muscled hindquarters and although a pretty thick set dog he moved very well. Pleased to award him CC. 2 Davidson's Waystaff Dutch Minister JW. Another dog of class. Excels in head and expression. With his depth of foreface, good stop round eye and well placed rose ears. Well boned front although not as much brisket as No1. Enough rib. Not as compact as 1 but feel sure his day will come. Moved well if a bit lethargically. 3 Cooch's Gnobulls Funk Odyssey. VB (4) 1 Hopkins Trufflestaff Toffee Truffle JW. Love to see these oldies strutting their stuff. This one was in excellent condition for her age, shown by the teeth and the muscle tone. She also has kept her figure with a good tuck up at the waist. 2 Beard's Ikkle Miss Magic at Hasweth. Another one who is kept in trim. Well cleaned teeth and good muscles for her age. It is a credit to these owners that even past their bloom they manage to keep their older dogs in first rate condition. 3 Asker's Crossguns Amazing Grace at Dazmarnic. MPB (7,4) 1 John's Welshstaff Princess Ruby. Lovely shaped little bitch this one. Good shaped head, clean front, level top-line, moved well. Her front has yet to fully develop which should come with age. Won this class with a bit in hand. 2 Hammond's Blazinstaff Blaze Away. Clean cut red with a nice shaped head and enough bone and rib for her age. Tended to stand with a dip behind her shoulders but I think that with experience she will stack more relaxed and more true. Moved well. 3 Membury's Eclypstaff All About Eve At Mitzstaff. PB (6) 1 Scotland's Callastaff Madame George. Took my eye immediately. Very nice head, good stop, round eye, neat ears and a strong muzzle which in no way detracts from her femininity. Good bone and true front which shows some width, sadly missing in some bitches to-day. Nice spring of rib for age and short coupled body with nice bend of stifle. She moved well. BPB and BPIB. 2 Moorcroft's Ashbull Omee. Similar head to no 1. Dark eye, neat ears good ratio of muzzle to skull. Again what I call a 'proper' front with enough bone. Not quite as shapely in the body as the winner. 3 Davies' Braunstaff Cannock Charmer. JB (4,2) 1 Matthews & Patrick's Howfenstaff Paddys Girl at Paljaz. Smart brindle with all the attributes to make a good head piece - defined stop, round, dark eye, good ratio of muzzle to skull and good depth throughout. Nice bone and good width of front. Nice spring of rib and well muscled rear end. Moved well. 2 Partlett's Ashstaff Black Opal of Starolestaff. Rather nervous on the day this girl kept her ears pinned back which made it hard to evaluate her. Fair head shape, if foreface could have been stronger. Good enough weight of bone, her body has yet to develop. Hard to assess on the move because she was so lacking in confidence and was quite obviously not enjoying her day! YB (4,1) 1 Pearce's Eclypstaff Take A Bow. Really fancied this young brindle bitch and once mature I feel sure that she will trouble the best. Correct head shape and well proportioned, set off by well placed rose ears which she used to advantage. Nicely boned front legs, and just about enough width. Rib ok for her age she was short coupled, very well muscled. On the move she went well and standing she was on her toes all the time, if sometimes over exuberant for her patient handler. Strong rear quarters. 2 Buchan's Araidh Cherish The Day. Black brindle with a nicely shaped head and round if not particularly dark eyes. Her ears set off her head well. She was in good condition and has a level top-line. Stifles a bit straight but she moved OK. 3 Cawley's Canakey Say You Will. GB (2,1) 1 Kemp & James' Bekanbar Shining Star JW. Great shame that this typey bitch stood alone as she is well up to a challenge. Good shaped head, rose ears. Her bone was good and her ribs well sprung. Behind her ribs there was a good tuck up to her hindquarters which were well bent and she moved very well. PGB (8,4) 1 Bruton's Zakstaff Black Duchess classy black brindle who again I feel is just coming into her own and will challenge the best. Lovely head shape, good stop, dark eye, neat ears. Good strong clean shoulders and front. Short coupled and nicely bent stifles, moved well. 2 Beard's Hasweth Gold Dust Woman. Lovely shaped head on this brindle bitch. Clean lines but lost out to 1 on strength of bone and was also a bit longer cast. But she moved well and well deserved her placing. 3 Jones' Blazinstaff Dynamytee at Rougestaff. LB (9,1) 1 Davies' Sebsonic Shinealight at Stormbull JW. The star of the day for me. A classy black brindle with the cleanest and loveliest shaped head with super ears to set it off and didn't she use them to advantage. Good neck with no loose skin. Well placed shoulders which just sit close to her rib cage. Good spring of rib and nice weight of bone. Short couplings give her a compact ready to move look. Nice tuck up at waist, Good bend of stifle she moved with verve yet with economy of movement and cleanly. CC and BOB. 2 Janssen's Staffjoys Titan Queen. Clear red colouring to this bitch, in fact a good clean cut girl all through. Nice head shape with good ratios and round eye giving good expression. Her front was well boned and feet good. Nice spring of rib, but to be hyper-critical perhaps a bit long cast compared to No1. Moved very well, parallel front and back. 3 Nicholson's Ballindona Bombshell. OB (12,3) 1 Hirst & Bibby's Taraiel Ciara JW ShCM. The sort of bitch I like, strong without losing femininity. Lovely shaped head with the best of expressions. Round eye, ears placed correctly at the side of her head and neatly rose. Strong but clean neck, well laid shoulders giving width to the front, a requisite of the standard but too often overlooked to-day. Good bone and feet. Nice spring of rib and well tucked up at the waist. Good bend of stifle and she moved soundly. Very close decision between her and my ultimate winner, if only she had the temperament of her, the positions might have been reversed. Reserve CC. 2 Mason's Dare To Dream. Real surprise to me this bitch as basically there is not enough substance to her for me. But credit where credit is due we are in the ring to judge according to the standard and not our own preferences and according to the standard she has so much to commend her. Good shaped head, nice stop, round eye. Clean shoulders leading to quite well boned front legs. Good spring of rib and short coupled. She moved well and stood as a compact picture, well up on her toes showing no weakness at the pasterns. She moved well. 3 Frankland's Aldwych Tiger Lily. Clare J H Lee |
