STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE BLACKPOOL 12

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

It is just short of two years since I last awarded CCs & it would appear that in many respects we have gone backwards in that time. While I was happy with my principle winners, it has to be said that quality in depth is sadly lacking. I was looking for standard animals that were well constructed & at least gave the impression that they were capable of being fit for function. My main gripe would be that too many exhibits were overweight & this does nothing to enhance overall balance.

MPD (3)

1 Patrick’s Welshstaff Last Gasp, looking as a puppy should at 6 months, strong head with a short muzzle & dark round eyes, clean bite & front, carrying a little bit of puppy fat but certainly has the makings of a good dog;

2 Roggen’s Aldgillis Scar Tissue, more athletic looking than 1 with a head shape that I find more pleasing. Unfortunately, was very difficult to assess as would not stand still & also lost out to the better front quarters of 1, I do think that with some work he could do better in the future.

PD (5)

1 Lewis’ Charmonics Regal Lad, standard sized br/w that I think will appeal to a good few judges in the future, strong headed, clean front, nice topline & well angulated rear, difficult to assess his movement in the conditions but won the class comfortably;

2 A Scar Tissue;

3 Morgan & Jones’ Maountarw The Prodigal Son.

JD (5)

1 Robbins’ Antroboss In The Red with Jakataffs, this red should have a bright future, lovely head shape with clean lips & keen expression, good bite & solid muzzle, clean front, well angulated front & rear & clean from every angle, standard sized & in decent condition although could have been harder. One of the better movers in really difficult conditions, comfortable class winner & RCC;

2 Butler’s Torostaff Our Billy, b/br, not dissimilar in type to 1, but a little stronger headed, had a lot of good qualities but I preferred the cleaner muzzle & shorter back of 1;

3 O’Farrell & Steele’s Venom Thunder.

YD (8)

1 Tittley & Bosanko’s Garwstaff Brindle Wizard, top size brindle with white chest, well proportioned head, good length of neck & clean front, looks balanced from all angles & moved OK;

2 T Our Billy;

3 Haywood’s Lukes Like Trouble.

PGD (7)

1 Fell & Smith’s Scratchline Zeus, top sized brindle with white blaze, good head shape, clean lipped, clean front, good angulation, well tucked up & put down in decent condition, best mover in class;

2 Dearman’s Blazinstaff Sacrifice, r/w with many virtues, lovely head & expression, neat ears, clean front & level topline, moved OK but I preferred the cleaner muzzle & fitter condition of 1;

3 English’s Engstaff Hey Joe.

LD (14)

1 Stanway’s Waystaff Striles Out, pied that caught my eye from the minute he walked into the ring, strong head without being overdone, good bite, clean front, ample length of neck to a good ribcage, good topline & sufficient angulation front & rear, moved well & comfortably took the class & CC;

2 Knight’s Rubysha Redeeming Jewell at Redrichstaff, r/w, lighter & finer in type to 1 but a class act nevertheless, not over done in any area & the cleanest of outlines from every angle, angulation & movement was good but preferred the greater strength & substance to 1;

3 Wilson & Rodger’s Chucky’s Black Lad.

OD (5)

1 Rhodes’ Willowstaff Black Marauder, top sized b/br who was possibly the best moving dog on show, well balanced & well put together, head not overdone, front is clean & straight, angulation is good front & rear & there is nothing not to like;

2 Membury’s Mitzstaff Fun To Flex, b/br, totally different in style to 1, a stronger, heavier dog all around & carrying a few excess pounds, strong head, good bite, well angulated & ribbed, whilst I am sure that he will appeal to many judges & will do very well, on the day I preferred the cleaner lines & movement of 1.

MPB (5)

1 Young’s Roughnecks Lush Lashes at Willchar, red, only a Minor Puppy but for me the star of the day & a Champion of the future without a doubt, beautiful head & expression, good bite & neat ears, lovely clean front, ample rib for age & a level topline going back to good rearquarters, tucked up & in better condition than many of the more senior exhibits, easily won her class & only lost out on the CC to maturity. RCC;

2 Cramer’s Staffstyle Hearts On Fire, nice red puppy with many good qualities, nice head with good bite & clean front. Did not perform as well as 1 in the conditions & I also preferred the cleaner muzzle & rear angulation of 1;

3 Desmond’s Bowtman’s Hats Off For Elitebull.

PB (1)

1 Rhodes’ Willowstaff Arcadian Rose, b/br that is clean & balanced from every angle, dark eye, good bite, level topline & good construction, would prefer a little more width to her front but has time on her side.

JB (11)

1 Rastall’s Manark Fantasy, b/br with a nice head, clean lipped & good bite, dark eye, neat ears & nice expression, ample rib, level topline & decent enough angulation, tail carriage could be better but far more virtue than faults;

2 Harvey’s Kyraloebis Sweetest Taboo, decent b/br & both are very similar in type, preferred her head to that of 1 & had a little more width to her front but overall 1 won due to being in better condition & better balanced;

3 Partlett’s Ashstaff Black Opal of Starolestaff.

YB (7)

1 Wilson & Rodger’s Ozzies Red Rascal, red with a nice head, dark eye & expression, good front, nice length of neck, good topline & tuck up, well constructed, in good condition & moved well enough;

2 McClelleand’s Tagstane Shining Star, black, slightly stronger in the head than 1 & carrying a little more weight, not a great deal to choose between 1 & 2 but I preferred the movement & rearquarters of 1;

3 Wall & Webb’s Hammystaff Hot To Trot for Manark.

PGB (6)

1 Tidestaff Mystical Magic, standard size dark brindle of good quality, nice feminine head with good proportions, enough neck leading to level topline, front & rearquarters are well put together allowing her to move well enough;

2 Smith’s Willowstaff Keep The Faith, top size b/br that I have seen in better condition than today, good head with nice expression & well put together, clean from all angles but today lost out on overall balance to a bitch in better condition;

3 Van Der Meer’s Leger Promised Girl.

LB (15)

1 Cunningham’s Spinnjack Berry Nice, I really liked this b/br & she pushed very hard for the CC, RCC, beautiful head with dark eyes, neat ears & a good clean bite, nice balance of bull & terrier, good topline, well ribbed & put together, won a strong class & on another day may have taken the top prize;

2 Stanway & McCulloch’s Waystaff Sea The Stars, dark brindle of good quality, very similar in type to 1, lovely head with clean lips & good bite, if anything was in slightly better condition to 1 & very well put together, a very close call between the two but I went for the expression of the 1;

3 Smith’s Rowellstaff Red Ember at Willowstaff.

OB (12)

1 Thomas’ Ruby Rose Duchess at Biggleswick, top sized red, back in 2008 I took RCC behind this bitch at a Breed Club Show & couldn’t see what the fuss was about, by has she matured well over those 31/2, a lovely clean front & good head with feminine expression, balanced from every angle & has matured into her body, well ribbed & with a good tuck up to show off her conditioning, even in the terrible conditions she was on her toes & didn’t stop showing, the final decision was a close one between her, limit & minor puppy but she came through with CC & BOB, this was her 3rd CC & is now the breeds latest ch;

2 Manito’s Dynastaff Miss Complex, dark brindle that I have previously awarded BP & RCC, beautiful bitch that has everything that I look for, the right blend off Bull & Terrier, good construction, movement & conditioning, there is nothing I don’t like about this bitch, unfortunately just didn’t have that spark of 1 on the day;

3 Swift’s Leading Lady Rose.
