STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE BITCHES NATIONAL TERRIER 23

My thanks are extended to the National Terrier Club for their invitation to Judge; a Show which is one on many people’s ambition list to be able to Judge. It certainly did not disappoint, with excellent organisation and a warm welcome from their Officers and Committee plus a terrific entry. I have to say that my ring stewards Gary Hinsley and Kerry Fulford did a first class job of manging the ring with professional expertise and my gratitude is extended to them also. To you the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to examine your charges, also my genuine thanks. I have to say I was hard pressed in some classes to make final choices with there being such quality to choose from. It as pleasing to know there are bitches coming through with such a balanced blend of bull and terrier and breed type, to hopefully produce good future stock. In the main mouths were good, only a couple of questionable bites; some had small teeth, but their scissor bite was there. I made a point of looking at the nostrils and whilst some were narrower than others, I certainly did not hear any rasping snoring type breathing or witness any difficulties in breathing through their nares. There were a few with weak underjaws, some with fleshy heads and some with upright shoulders. Lack of bone was another thing I had noted. In the main there was plethora of breed type with a lot to like, fit and healthy looking, in good condition and a credit to the breed.

SBD/B (Judged in conjunction with my co-judge)

1 Page’s Elitebull Mischief At Belastaff B/Br dog who is standard and has an appealing look. Good skull. Pleasing expression. Clean shoulder. Short neck. Good bone. Enough depth of brisket. Topline ok. Good rear quarters. Moved out ok.

2 Sandford’s Skyestaff Unspoken B/Br bitch just shy of being a year old. Nice tidy overall package. Straight front. Neat feet. Level topline with good body outlines. Her hind quarters showed shaped and muscle. Standard build. Stood foursquare. Shown well by her handler. Moved out ok.

3 Badman, Piggott & Sprague’s Skyestaff The Destroyer.

MPB (5)

1 Marshallay’s Kenstars Minera With Fergustaff. Red/white standard youngster portraying a very pleasing package. She is pretty and had a lovely feminine expression from good ear and eye set with proportioned head, tight lip and correct bite. No exaggeration in any area. Clean, straight front. Shoulders well laid into good body. Classy pup with lovely outline and build. Very balanced. Handler got the best from this baby with considerate handling and expertise.

2 Houwaat’s Jecanibo’s Inner Smile B/Br stronger than 1st with a nice build and frame. Good head shape and skull with definition of stop. Good front with plenty of width and straight front with ample bone. Depth of brisket and spring of rib developing well. Good body. Her rear quarters show ample width with nice bend of stifle. She moved well and was handled expertly.

3 Walker’s Torkavi The Last Dragon At Teshleystaf.

PB (14/1)

1 Plumstead’s Kamaristaffs Royal Gem B/Br and what a gem she is! She sparkled from every point! Classic shaped well proportioned head/ skull and good ratio. Appealing expression, dark round eye set well and neat ears. Lovely forequarters and front which is clean and straight with enough bone. Good feet which are well padded and turned out at pasterns which are strong. Correct development of rib and brisket for her age. Stood foursquare naturally. Well bodied for her age although not overdone. Lovely outline from good topline and underline. Her rear quarters are developing well and have plenty of muscle showing good tone and shape. Shown and handled well. Really loved this young lady who I have no doubt has a very bright future I awarded her Best Puppy Bitch and she went on to take Best Puppy in Breed with my co-Judges agreement. Well done.

2 Cartwright’s Elitebull Skyefall B/Br top size bitch with abundant quality and plenty of substance. Super head and skull which has depth and width to balance, with a pleasing expression as she has good ear and eye placement complementing her appealing look. Broad enough in chest and depth, with ample bone and good feet from straight front. Her brisket depth is correct and she has enough rib. Slightly longer in body than 1st. Strong rear with well formed inner and outer thigh. Eye-catching quality young bitch who is so easy to appreciate. She stands very well and moves with positive action. Her handler knows how to get the best from her. I have no doubt that she has a bright future ahead with the numerous virtues she portrays.

3 Desmond’s Elitebull Conquest.

JB (11/2)

1 Quinn’s Callastaff Five Years At Bowferry B/Br who was the ace in the pack today, and she sure played out her game well. Balanced blend of bull & terrier. Smooth quality coat. She appeared muscular, active and agile just from my first look, and I was not disappointed. Her ring presence was on fire and her expression, alert and keen. A very well constructed head which is balanced in width and depth, clean without excess of flesh or wrinkle on foreface. Pronounced stop. Good cheek muscles and tight lip. Viewed from front she has good shoulder which has clean lines down into a straight well boned front and nice feet. Depth of brisket/rib is correct. She tucks up into well covered tight loins which were firm and showed strength in her core. Her rear quarters exuded muscle tone which were hard and well formed with a good inner and outer thigh. Topline held nice and level both stood and on the move. She needs time to settle her exuberance on the move but when she does it portrays a rear driving movement with economy of effort and parallel swift motion. Up on her toes. She challenges her handler every moment she is in the ring with her effervescent attitude but theres nothing wrong with character! The cleanness of the outlines she portrays is there to see. Theres plenty more to come as she is quite a class act. I watched and I looked closely and every time I looked at her, she did not disappoint at all. Bang on the money today. I’m sure she will go on to gain her crown for this young lady has plenty more aces to play and as she matures. I was very pleased to award her the Bitch Challenge Certificate and later along with my co-judge Best Opposite Sex in Breed.

2 Lloyd-Williams’s Cwmhaf Cariad B/Br who took my eye and was easy to appreciate. She ticked a lot of boxes with many attributes. Lovely shape of head and plenty of skull bone under the skin. Lovely characteristic expression, well set eye and ears, . clean in foreface and distinct stop. Good front which is straight and well boned. Correct drop of brisket and enough rib which will develop more as she matures on. Tucked up into loins which were firm and well covered. Her rear assembly showed shape and firm muscle. Good bend of stifle and let down of hock. Movement was ok but needs to settle to see her at her best. She is one who I will watch with interest as she has an abundance of quality which is going to shine, I have no doubt.

3 Miller’s Skyland Eruption.

YB (12/1)

1 Wall’s Ch Golwyn She’s The One Red of quality. She oozes type and has plenty of substance. A Champion very worthy of her title. Strong in all areas and offering a feminine expression with a glint of mischief. On her toes constantly alert. Lovely head with strength and balance. Good underjaw. Clean, well laid shoulder and well boned straight front. Topline and underline gave a pleasing view on the move. She has well covered hind quarters with plenty of width. Loins were broad and firm, showing good core cover. Good bend of stifle. Driving movement with ample strength. She has breed type from tip to toe to tail. Her handler knows how to get the best from her and they are a team in harmony.

2 Preston’s Tillcarr Fire Inigma B/Br not as strong as 1st but she is a very nice standard package. Enduring expression with well placed round eye and neat ears. Good definition of stop and proportions of muzzle/skull. Clean foreface. Enough width of chest to compliment her frame. Lovely clean and straight front. Correct fall of brisket with enough rib to balance. Level topline. Short in body and coupling although not too short. Her rear quarters have good shape with good muscle and definition. Movement was good when she settled, she was a nosey parker so once handler settled her, she went about her moving task well. She has a lovely ring presence. Presented in top condition.

3 Bowman’s Sikaistaff All Of Me.

NB (11/1)

1 Cartwright’s Elitebull Skyefall B/br as above 2nd in Puppy.

No exaggeration of flesh. Tight in lip. Standard build. Good lay of shoulder flowing into a clean tight body. Straight front which shows enough bone. Up on her pasterns. She has enough width and depth of chest. Level topline. Pleasing underline. Her hind quarters were shapely and firm to touch with obvious muscle definition. She is very appealing but would prefer a little more sparkle in her ring presence. Handler showed her very well and they made a good team. Moved well.

3 Davis & Booth’s Sharmara Patronus Charm.

GB (14/3)

1 Mayers’s Maynestaff The Girl Is Mine B/Br Lovely balanced bitch with a lot to like. Classic headpiece, strong, ample width and depth but not excessive. She has a melting expression which drew you in. Eyes and ears are set well. Straight legs well boned, good feet and width to her front with enough rib. Body was close coupled. Rear quarters were well developed and she has width and definition. She had very pleasing outlines when viewed from all angles. Bend of stifle ok. Her handler gets the best from her. Moved well with purpose. She was put into the ring in great condition. One to watch with interest as she matures on.

2 Shipp’s Delacour Sweetest Taboo For Idyllicstaff Br & white who had the ring presence and character to demand attention and when I did examine her, I was impressed by her overall build. She is strong but still retains her femininity. Packed of muscle and power in a standard package. Good drop of brisket and spring to her rib. Nicely tucked up, swept from brisket to loin. Balanced body proportions. Powerful hind quarters gave drive of parallel movement. Her charming sometimes verbal character was all Stafford and I like to see one so ‘alive’ which added to her ring presence and sparkle which you could not deny. Her handler got the best from her and they worked as a team.

3 Rowe & South’s Illori Constellation JW.

PGB (11/2)

1 Woolley’s Bethaleese’s Bewitched B/Br A standard compact bitch who is very pleasing to the eye with a beautiful head and an expression to draw you in. Breed type with no exaggeration. She has well placed dark round eyes and her ears are set well. Showed strength of underjaw. Straight front and good bone and feet. Correct fall of brisket and nice rib. Compact body. She held her topline level, both standing and on the move and having the cleanest of outlines. Shapely defined hind quarters with adequate inner and outer thigh. Her handler got the best from her and she was presented in great condition. She has abundance of quality and I liked her a lot; she was one who pushed my decision making all the way in the final line up.

2 Martinez’s Bullbrothers Mist Mydnight B/Br with balanced skull proportions and pleasing expression. Well set dark round eye and neat ears. Definition of stop and good underjaw. Straight front bone and neat feet. Nice body line that is close coupled. Good rear build and muscle. She held her level topline on the move and when standing. Good tail set. Movement was good once she had settled. Shown in good condition and handled well.

3 Crawford & Willson’s Northstaff Bay Bomber For Crowstaff JW

LB (12)

1 Johnson’s Tillcarr Kissed By Fire B/Br. This lady has certainly been kissed, not by fire, but by class with the abundance of qualities she has. She won the class by her overall picture of balanced breed type. Very standard without any exaggeration. Beautifully moulded clean head and such a pleasing characteristic expression from lovely round well set eye and neat ears set correctly. She has a straight front with good bone and tidy feet. Her brisket fell to the correct place with enough spring of rib to complement her body size and shape. Loins were defined and had covering leading into her shapely hind quarters. Bend of stifle ok. Good build of muscle and adequate tone. She has a jaunty motion in her movement and went about her activity with positive parallel drive. She eyed me up every time I glanced back at her. Appealing ring presence. A neat package who I would be happy to parcel up and take home. I was happy to award her the Reserve Challenge Certificate.

2 Bissell’s Elitebull Solitaire B/Br. I really gave this bitch serious thought as she certainly gave the 1st place a run for her placing. Very typey bitch with a good blend of bull and terrier. Clean head which showed strength, but not overdone, with balanced proportions. Well laid shoulder, clean straight front and good feet. Correct depth of brisket, enough width of front. Good rib. Her muscular rear showed definition and firm shapely muscle with a powerful movement. She held her level topline and certainly did not drop a beat. Her handler showed her in top form.

Clean shoulders with muscular definition, straight front, good feet. Excellent body tone with clean outline showing short coupling and good spring to her rib. Broad rear quarters packed with muscle and her inner and outer thigh were shapely and firm. She has good width and power in her hind quarters which gave her a drive of movement that was parallel and positive. Handler showed her in top form.

2 Lewis’s Jasamarch Celtic Queen B/Br who exuded fitness and physique. Lovely head with good proportions. Pleasing feminine expression from good eye and ear placement. Clean foreface. Straight front and neat feet. Her brisket and rib fitted her frame without exaggeration. She has a tuck up which was tight and defined into loins covered with hard muscle. Her rear was rock hard with ample width across her hind assembly. She moved out well and showed drive and held her level topline. Handler got the best from her. She was a picture.

3 Arntzen & McDermott’s Catstaffs Say Goodbye.

VB (5)

1 Butler’s Ch Joemikeste Play The Game B/Br who defies her age and exudes physical fitness, packed full of muscle and body tone. So firm to touch with definition that younger ones could be envious of. She is a blend of bull and terrier and her head is strong but not coarse and is of good proportion and without wrinkle or excess of flesh. Having judged this bitch before and awarded her a CC some years ago, I certainly was not disappointed today. She has matured so well. Straight front with enough bone and up on her pasterns. Enough rib that sweeps up into tight loins that are well covered giving strength to her core area. Outstanding hard rear with muscle in abundance which powered her along in positive movement. Tests her handler constantly and does ‘play the game’ with her exuberant character but this just enhances her ring presence. I still love her! Best Veteran Bitch and best opposite sex veteran in breed.

2 Desmond’s Elitebull Destiny B/Br who is easy to appreciate and has many attributes. She has a defined head shape and has no excessive flesh. Well placed dark eye and neat ears. Clean foreface. She has a straight front with ample bone. Brisket and rib are pleasing with a compact body. She does not look a veteran by any means and competes very well. She has clarity and is well formed and firm in her rear quarters and has good movement with power. She is shown in top condition and her handler gets the best from her.
