STAFFORDSHIRE BULL BITCHES JUDGE CRUFTS 10

Staffordshire Bull Terriers
BITCHES – Thank you to the Crufts Committee for inviting me to judge at this most prestigious of shows. To all exhibitors bringing their bitches for my appraisal; you have my most sincere thanks. They made a very memorable day for me. Many thanks also to my ring stewards for all their help & efficient running of the proceedings.

V (7,5a)

1 Norton’s Stormpike Cleopatra of Tikkurilan, 7 years, well constructed b/br that I have admired for some years, her condition belied her age, strong yet feminine head, short neck, very good front, well sprung ribs with deep brisket, level topline, powerful rearquarters & a good bend of stifle allowed her to move easily with drive, a credit to her owners;

2 Funnel’s Knockon Minerva of Powerpack, another very good b/br, 9 year old that has kept her style & condition well, well shaped head with good expression, enough bone & substance, well bent stifle, moved OK, in super condition for age;

3 Stocks’ Ruiha’s English Rose of Mieke.

P (20,2)

This was a strong class of special status, slightly extending the normal age range, close decisions between the first five.

1 Lewis’ Blazinstaff Forever Flame, lovely r/w puppy with well shaped head, super expression, strong deep muzzle, dark round eye, deep stop, good mouth, short enough neck, good shoulders & well boned front, body developing well, level topline, promising well shaped hindquarters, moved smoothly with drive, well handled, very good prospect with a well deserved BP;

2 Jackson’s Roughnecks Northern Storm, nice sized brindle of substance that is well constructed, strong yet feminine head, deep skull, pronounced stop, strong foreface, liked her clean front with plenty of bone, good topline, short coupling, & well set tail, good rearquarters, moved well;

3 Longman’s Machusi Dreamworld,

J (15,1)

1 Badenhorst’s Ramblestaff Fanny F’nakapan, bl/br bitch of top quality, nice head with good skull depth, neat ears, round dark eye, good dentition, strong short neck, good round bone in her front legs, ribs developing nicely, powerful rearquarters, in profile, has good body outline, level topline, & deep brisket, moved well with drive, although with shorter nails would have been even more on her toes;

2 Stanway McCulloch & Russel’s Waystaff Dutch Pearl, white quality bitch of substance with well shaped head, good dentition, straight well boned front legs with strong pasterns, good body, well angulated hindquarters, moved well. Did not look as good in profile as 1;

3 Cooper’s Ronstaff Easy Eyes.

Y (21,1)

This was a large class that consisted of some excellent bitches, but disappointingly lacked strength in depth.

1 Francis & Hillman’s Samtan Forget-Me-Not, attractive bl/br/w which I liked very much, correctly proportioned head, dark round eye, neat well placed ears, deep muzzle, clean lips, short neck, good front, nice rib, well developed rearquarters, looked good in profile, moved very well;

2 McCallum’s Crashkon Come Closer at Ashstaff, bl/br of great shape & make, with classic deep-through skull, well pronounced stop & strong foreface, but not lacking femininity, good front with plenty of bone, well sprung ribs, short coupling, level topline, strong hindquarters, moved & handled well;

3 Jackson’s Roughnecks Dream Looker.

U (14,1)

1 Bell’s Donnellas Posh Pooch, well balanced r/w with strong yet feminine head, excellent expression, round dark eyes, tight lips, short strong neck, good shoulder placement, wide straight front, well developed ribs, short coupling, level topline, correct tail set & carriage, well muscled rearquarters, moved & handled well, won by a clear margin;

2 Yarham’s Fabrehn Cool Yer Jetts at Engladian, bl/br/w with good head shape, good pigmentation, well developed body, pleasing in profile, in gleaming condition. Did not have as good front as 1 & needs to harden up. Moved OK;

3 Crick’s Jessie Rose Of Crickelstaff.

G (11,2)

1 Winrow’s Jayneze Dokie Okie, quality bl/br with no exaggerations, in superb condition, good deep skull, well defined stop, correct length of muzzle, good dentition, super expression, strong neck, true front with well placed shoulders, straight legs with good round bone, strong pasterns & tight feet, body developing well, very good in profile with brisket well below her elbows, level topline, short coupling, well bent stifle & powerful rearquarters, moved very well, in harmony with handler, closely challenged the top winning bitches here;

2 McFadden’s Minnie Haha, quality bl/br, similar in type to 1, head of correct proportions, dark eye, well placed ears, deep muzzle, clean lips, strong neck, good ribs, well developed rearquarters, short glossy coat, moved well. Just a little longer & not quite the bone of 1, but still very nice;

3 Weiss’ Eye Of The Tiger Great ‘N Glory.

PG (28,3)

This was another large class, varying in type construction & quality, an enjoyable class to judge containing many very good quality bitches, some of whom inevitably did not finish within the first five.

1 Jackson’s Roughnecks Red Rose, very well put together & balanced r/w bitch, well proportioned head, excellent muzzle with good bite, dark round eyes, good stop, strong neck, good wide front, well boned legs with tight feet, good ribs & depth of body, well maintained level topline, powerful hindquarters helped her to move well;

2 Chandler & Barrett’s Gwynford Celtic Myst at Chanspire, b/br/w with good head strength showing well in the muzzle, good bite, well placed ears & lovely expression, good muscular neck, well boned forehand, well developed body, short coupling & level topline, muscular rearquarters, moved OK;

3 Speed’s Leger Ladies Day.

ML (14,1)

1 Norton’s Mintmar Look Again for Tikkurilan, lovely quality b/br, pleasing blend of bull & terrier, good head shape, nicely set ears, dark eyes, good mouth, nice profile, having straight front legs with ample bone, good body & brisket, level topline, & being short enough overall, strong muscular hindquarters & good handling allowed her to move well;

2 Funnel’s Kewaunee Pocahontas for Powerpack, good type of b/br with enough head strength, deep stop, dark eye, good dentition with big teeth, strong neck, adequate bone, body with enough rib & good depth, muscular hindquarters. Not as good in profile as 1, rather more upright in shoulder & not as good topline. Moved OK;

3 Dowling & Caswell’s Tarowdorgy Kerensa at Cyberstaff.

L (12,2)

This was not a large class but what it lacked in numbers was more than made up by quality, there was little to choose between the first three bitches in this class, very close decisions.

1 Welsh’s Valglo Matilda for Staffwize, b/br that exudes femininity without any weakness, in tip-top condition, well proportioned head, neat ears, dark round eye, deep enough muzzle, good bite, looked well in profile with strong neck, good forehand with ample bone, adequate rib & satisfactory body depth, level topline, perhaps slightly long in the coupling but this is countered by well bent stifles & muscular hindquarters, moved well & freely;

2 Bouter-Feenstra’s Old Cross Guns Dearbhail Diabhal. lovely b/br/w bitch that appealed to me, deep through head, nicely placed ears, good stop, dark round eyes, good muscular neck leading to well boned straight front legs & neat feet, lovely body shape, powerful rearquarters, moved & handled well. Coat not quite the condition of 1;

3 Cairns’ Dinalghi Touch Of Class.

O (34,4)

What can I say, absolutely wonderful to have so many superb Stafford bitches gathered together for me to judge in one class.

1 Blacker’s Ch Crossguns Memphis Belle, superb b/br, which I must admit is one of my favourites, very well balanced overall, lovely well proportioned head, deep strong foreface with clean lips, dark eye & neat ears giving a lovely expression, excellent profile showing very good front with neat well padded feet, well developed body, short strong coupling, good topline, & strong substantial rearquarters, moved well, harmonious handling, a great pleasure to judge this bitch again, well deserved CC & BOB on referees decision;

2 Bouter-Feenstra’s Dutch/Bel/Lux Ch Old Cross Guns I Salute You, beautiful b/br, without any exaggerations & yet teeming with quality, slightly smaller than 1 with great head shape, well proportioned foreface, well placed dark eyes & neat ears giving wonderful expression, wide front, with well boned front legs & neat feet, good ribs, short coupling, strong hindquarters, moved & handled well, a very close decision with 1. RCC;

3 Day & Needham’s Ch Stormpike Ebony And Ivory at Bullred.

GCB (6,1)

1 Essex’s Javawolf Mogwai, upstanding red with good head, dark eye, neat ears, & nice foreface, strong neck, good front, well developed body, nice topline, well muscled rearquarters, quite nice in profile, moved OK, handled well;

2 Hall’s Rekrahstaff Miss Attitude cum Geordiestaff, b/br/w bitch that is a little smaller & more feminine than 1, nicely shaped head, good stop, round dark eye, good dentition, nice forehand with enough bone, good hindquarters, moved OK & handled to advantage;

3 Essex’s Rowellstaff Top Hatter with Jawawolf.
