STAFFORDSHIRE BULL BATH 16 Judge: Mr J Finney BEST OF BREED : 1834 SCANLAN Messrs J & C Bultry Magic Potion at Pantycelyn STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE BATH 16 My thanks to Bath CS for inviting me to judge their prestigious show. It was run expertly & the weather although a little hot at times was otherwise perfect. The heat only seemed to affect a few dogs & I did try to keep them in the shade of the tents as much as possible, the in-out tents that they have at Bath seems to work perfectly for this time of year. The quality of the exhibits was generally very high as you would expect at a Ch show, only a few inverted canines & not many lacking in bone & type that I look for in this breed. My principle winners were all of the same type. As photographs of the winners will prove, this is what I look for in a SBT & not too much variation in dogs & bitches. I know bitches should be feminine versions of the male but Stafford bitches with no bone & weak snippy heads make the sexes look like two different breeds. MPD (7,3a) 1 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Papinashvash, a 7 months quality puppy dog, short coupled with a wide straight front, typical head with a good mouth, dark eye, good bend of stifle & moved well for a youngster, looks like a good future. BP; 2 Morrison’s Antroboss Kenny Ken, another typy young dog, great head & front, level topline, though slightly longer than 1, nice tight feet & great pigmentation all round; 3 Turner’s Quatros Iron Clad Buddy. PD (3,2) 1 Darby’s Godstaff Bullet Power, 12 months young dog with a good straight front & strong depth of chest & ribcage, spoiled by untidy ears & I would like more of a stop but compensated with good movement & well developed hindquarters. JD (10,1) 1 Smith’s Ramblestaff Racketeer, a well developed young dog all round, good front, level topline, nice dark eyes with a typical expression, good shoulder placement, short coupled leading to well defined hindquarters, moved with drive; 2 Mayren’s Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaff, a well balanced r/w dog with a typical head, well off for rib & depth of brisket, nice bend of stifle, kept his topline when on the move; 3 Winwood’s Nerotoro Dark Element. ND (5,1) 1 T Papinashvash; 2 Rees’ Edgeworth Arturo, a pity this dog did not show to his potential today as he is a very typy dog, straight front, short coupled with a good bend of stifle, adequate rib & tuck-up; 3 Case & Rigg’s Staffstyle Through Glass. PGD (13,3) 1 Coble’s Surestaff Wellington, I could not understand how this dog was still in Post Grad when I saw him. Great headed dog with all the correct proportions, good mouth with a strong muzzle & underjaw, plenty of bone & substance without being overdone, just the type of Stafford I admire, was no hesitation in giving him the CC; 2 Rithchie’s Northsaltire Nice One Sam, another dog with correct head shape & type, sound in neck & shoulder placement, good topline with ample rib & sound quarters; 3 Jackson’s Molru Nothing Else Matters. LD (15,2) 1 Drummond’s Ballindona Benromach, a dog I have liked for some time, typical of what I think a Stafford should be, correct head shape, short muzzle with correct bite, good front, short coupled with level topline, nice to see a correct Stafford temperament which sadly some don’t have these days. RCC; 2 Miller’s Deldenas Black Shadow, another one of my favourites, this dog screams well balanced all round at you, typical Stafford virtues without any obvious faults, nothing at all exaggerated about this dog, can’t understand why he has not won more than he has; 3 Hirst & Bibby’s Tariel Busta Rhymes. OD (7) 1 Thomas’ Ch Cazomic Crime Fighter, a quality red dog something you don’t see enough of these days, well balanced head with correct eye shape, nice tidy ears, tight clean lips. Clean lines throughout, excellent pigmentation, a worthy Ch; 2 Nichoson’s Rowansbac Lovely Jubbly for Ballidona, this is another dog who should have done a lot more winning in the show ring than he has. Powerful head, good straight front, stood foursquare with good lay of shoulders & strong backend. Moved well with a level topline; 3 Butler’s Ch Ramblestaff Cos I Cud. VD (3) 1 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Jsy Ch Granitangel Zircon, 8½ years br/w dog who is very short coupled with plenty rib & chest, neat & compact body & still moved well; 2 Mathew & Patrick’s Absolute Star, a b/br dog with correct head shape, good front & rib, well set ears, just carrying a bit too much weight on the day; 3 Smart & Worth’s Fifa Blue. MPB (9,1) 1 Scotland’s Callastaff Moon River, a nice square cobby puppy, smart clean outline, correct proportions at this stage in her development, good front & level topline on the move; 2 Cartwright’s Zakstaff Winterfell, a very similar bitch to 1, well proportioned, sound in all quarters, nice feminine head with correct dentition, neat ears; 3 Funnel’s Powerpack Cherokee. PB (4) 1 Bailey’s Cwmcalon Armani Code, a very smart looking bitch with good bone & well balanced throughout, good spring of rib, foursquare with excellent pigmentation; 2 Partlett’s Starolestaff Red Dawn, a nice standard sized bitch with a clean head & ample rib & chest, though needs to tighten up a bit, seemed a little nervous on the day; 3 Buchan’s Happystaff Could It Be Magic. JB (17,1) 1 Byrne & Gartland’s Carandstaff Moondance, a classy type of bitch who deserved to win this big class which was full of quality animals, correct shaped head, deep chest, good spring of rib, nice tight feet; 2 Nicholson’s Antrella Just Jane at Ballidona, another quality bitch which pushed hard for 1 place, nice clean front, level topline leading to a powerful backend; 3 H Could It Be Magic. NB (5,3) 1 Thisby’s Samtan Black Pearl at Taurinstaff, a very short coupled bitch who is very typy all round, typical feminine head shape with clean lips & good dentition, strong pasterns with nice tight feet; 2 Heyer’s Clampitt Verily Patch, a nice bitch turned out in good condition & with correct shape & type, moved well with good angulation. PGB (17) 1 Ballidona Juliet Bravo, this was one of the strongest classes of the day, the quality was excellent. This bitch is just my type, plenty of bone & type, this is for me how a Stafford bitch should be, just slightly refined from the dogs, not poor weedy imitations of the male. This bitch excelled in all quarters, was pleased to award her the RCC; 2 O’Conner’s Chapmeek Envougueat Chezatree, a pied bitch who has all the right attributes in head & body, has just a slightly light eye which spoils her overall expression though sound in all departments, a powerful bitch fit for purpose; 3 Thomas’ Pridesdale Special Edition. LB (10,3) 1 Harrison & Roper’s Trawden Ice And Spice, a r/w pied bitch I have admired for some time, plenty of bone, typy head, dark eye, good pigmentation, good dentition, a powerful bitch who nearly spoiled her chances through not being in the mood for showing on the day, but still pushed hard in the line-up for the CC; 2 Jackson’s Jefmor Straight As A Die, a decent sized bitch with a pleasing outline from every angle, nice head, correct front, no exaggerations on this bitch, powerful hindquarters, gave her good drive on the move; 3 Byrne’s Manark Maggie May. OB (8,1) 1 Bultry Magic Potion at Pantycelyn, this bitch caught my eye as soon as she walked in the ring, she simply oozed quality from nose to tail, this is a class bitch with no serious faults & all the correct virtues, faultless in outline & movement. CC, BOB. I later learned this was her first show, I watched her later in the Group were she was awarded G4 in a strong group, no mean feat for Staffords. I am sure it’s only a matter of time before she gets her title; 2 Canavan’s Boldstock Am I Bovered, I have seen this bitch many times from a distance at the ringside & I must admit was not overly impressed but what a difference close up & going over her, a lovely mahogany/br, she excels in type & fitness, nothing overdone about this bitch, ample bone, strong front & chest, level topline, nice tight feet, glad she proved me wrong to judge from a distance; 3 Stanway’s Mosstrouper Making Mischeif at Waystaff. VB (5,3) 1 Hall’s Rekrahstaff Miss Attitude cum Geordiestaff, 11 years bitch who really looked & felt half her age, moved well on her tight feet & strong backend, she is a credit to her owner. BV; 2 Hopkins’ Ch Trufflestaff Monika Kanika, I have admired this Ch bitch for many years though this is the first time I have been close up, a lovely standard sized bitch, short coupled & excelled in type, full credit to owners for keeping her in tip-top condition.
