SKYE WELKS 10 Judge(s) MR H GAY DCC CH SALENA BLACK SHADOW (MRS S BREEZE) Skye Terriers I remember when there were few, if any, drop-eared Skyes being shown & the ones that were seen demonstrated very dodgy toplines among other things. Now the wheel is starting to turn with some exceptional drops in the ring with beautiful toplines; my compliments. Some mouths though did not earn appreciative thoughts, when since have Skye’s had incorrect bites? The biggest surprise was presentation or maybe that should be lack of it. The number put down to the absolute minute could be counted on one hand & superficially they all looked good but going over them told a rather different story. Without exception all had the correct coat, none were softish & that hasn’t always been able to be said, so lack of brushing through, too much undercoat & in some cases far too much coat on neck, shoulders etc was a shame & rather unexplainable, maybe it was just a bad day. Temperaments were excellent throughout, no quibbles with bone & the 3 L’s of Skye homage, long, low & level, is, by this entry, alive & well. PD 1 King’s Little Lone Piper for Celticbridge, up to size dark grey of good proportion & outline, good width of skull, well placed ears, moderate neck, good length of rib, well muscled behind which meant he moved with drive but as one might expect at this age his front is loose & topline unstable. JD 1 Harrison’s Papplewick Knockando for Trenson, long, low & level cream dog in that half coat stage between puppy & adult. Nice run in from good skull through neck & into front, parallel rear action & good drive. LD 1 Samuel’s Skyelander Wee Man of Storr, beautiful silver drop ear with everything. In the challenge did not show himself as well as the OD. Certainly one to watch. RCC; 2 Parker’s Glorfindel Basil Brush, slightly shorter silver grey dog, well presented, good head, neck & rib. Another really nice Skye, just preferred length of 1; 3 Harrison’s Knowlespring Jailhouse Roc for Trenson. OD 1 Breeze’s Ch Salena Black Shadow, black who flows, movement, coat, body from one piece to another, topline, just follow through, top it with A1 presentation & handling & he just had to be the CC winner; 2 Barraclough’s Ch Skyeotts Midnight Majesty at Wemoway, a quality drop-eared black with so much to admire, has everything & an inclination to drop his topline when moving; 3 Curtis’ Gumshoe Bugsy Malone of Brakemill. PB 1 White’s Salena Special Effect at Gumshoe, grey baby, coat thinking about it, when decided to settle moved with excellent reach & drive, good front, certainly the 3 L’s when moving, has promise. BP. JB 1 King’s Celticbridge Northern Star, beautiful cream for such a young age & she has so much going for her from head through to strong drive behind. Topline is prone to wobble a bit on the move but at 14 months old. PGB 1 McLeod’s Esgia’s Sula The Late Edition, silver drop ear, good head, ear, neck, rib, topline, front & rear, sound in movement, all the 3 L’s, quality coat, she is all Skye. Just had to have the CC & BOB over the dog but she totally took my eye; 2 Lynch’s Maridale Bella Figlia, nicely proportioned silver grey, good rib, excellent movement. Insisted on standing rear high. LB 1 Samuel’s Skyelander Midnight Dream, strong headed silver, strong head supported by a good neck, excellent rib & level topline, beautifully handled but as so many Skyes are prone to do, enthusiasm for moving was only just adequate; 2 White’s Knowlespring You’re Wicked by Gumshoe, cream, excellent front & rib. Wouldn’t settle on the move. OB This was the class of the day. 1 Breeze’s Salena She’s The One, excellent black, proportions, topline, head, neck, movement & presentation are all hers & the handling is 110 per cent but (there is always a but) her front couldn’t match the CC winners. RCC; 2 Barraclough’s Ch/Sw Ch Skyeotts Amnesix High Sky Miracle at Wemoway, beautifully headed black drop ear, excellent proportions, really sound mover, so much to recommend. Preferred the more feminine 1; 3 Woodhead’s Knowlespring She Knows. Go To Top Of Page |
