SKYE JUDGE SOUTH WALES 23

Thank you to my two stewards, Paula and Sue. Good stewards are worth their weight in gold. As always, I enjoyed the opportunity to have my hands on Skyes and thank you to the exhibitors for the entry and also travelling in such horrendous weather.

Presentation on the whole was good. However, a couple of dogs had dirty teeth and perhaps a little more attention could be made to check for small knots and tugs in the undercarriage area. Was pleased to see that all exhibits today were set up correctly without over stretching of front or rears to exaggerate length or correct a topline.

Veteran Dog (1)(0)

1 Kendrick’s Ch Frisco Kiaora at Jeraro (Imp Cze) Well presented and handled. Impressive head with good jaw. Felt his ears could be a little tighter but this did not detract from his gentle expression. A lot to like about him. His movement was rather sluggish in his class but in the veteran challenge he certainly upped his game and took Best Veteran.

Post Graduate Dog (2)(1)

1 Mason’s Bhatairnis Fasach Today he behaved impeccably for his handler. I would like him to carry less weight but this did not impede his movement. Strong head with dark eye. Nice reach of neck leading into good front assembly. Nice proportions throughout.

Limit Dog (3)(0)
1ST Turner’s Knowlespring Quincy ShCEx Totally in tune with his handler, he moves out well including a tail carried high but wagging. Good head and lovely dark eye. Correct front and rear assembly. Would prefer a slight longer rib and he certainly would benefit from carrying a little bit more weight. My main criticism is he is a little high in the leg for me.

2ND Burscough & Grimshaw’s Kilfinan Gail's Legacy at Jamalison. Very happy chappy which is certainly reflected in his drive as he moves with vim and determination. Correct head sadly lacking in face furnishings which only enhances his kind and gentle melting expression. Excellent rib to loin proportions. Soundly built throughout.

3RD McLeod’s Esgia Glen Garioch

Open Dog (2)(0)

1ST Heath’s Lavauxs Bahamian Chris. Presentation was spot on and in full accord with his handler. He his not one of your flash dogs but what a delight to go over. Nice size, with good proportions and strength throughout. Topped off with a correct coat. Movement was fluid and a pleasure to watch. Pleased to award him CC and Best of Breed.

2ND Sanderson’s Esgia Highland Laddie. So unlucky to meet the winner in this class. Very masculine dog who has certainly improved with age. Strong head with good ear set and correct dark eye. Good angulation on the front. Good depth of rib which could have been slightly longer. Level topline leading into good rear assembly. Movement was not as strong as winners. Res CC.

Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog (1)(0)

1ST Sanderson’s Esgia Highland Laddie

Veteran Bitch (2)(0)

1ST McLeod’s Noap Charoit Madlen Mardzheri at Esgia (Imp Rus). Presented in good hard condition which certainly enhanced her level topline. Feminine head with gentle expression. Correct front and rear angulation. Moved out well.

2ND Heath’s Perrylands Hello Again. Nice type of correct size. Again so much to like about her. Front not quite as tight as the winner’s. Her movement was very fluid but unfortunately, she wasn’t holding her topline.

Puppy Bitch (3)(1)

1ST Whincup & McCourt’s Coriend The Adjudicator by Partisky. Came into the ring and I thought wow. You can create many things but ring presence you cannot. A delight to go over. Strong but feminine head with dark eye. Arched neck leading into a correct and tight front assembly. Good rib to loin ratio. Correct rear. Definitely no exaggeration or weakness throughout. She moved out well. Pleased to award her the Res CC, Best Puppy and delighted she went on to win Puppy Group 2.

2ND Holt’s Coriend Let's Do Justice. Litter sister to winner and it certainly showed. Much of the above applies to her. Her front was not quite as tight as winner but should come with time. She moved out well but not with the joy and sparkle of the winner. With time she could certainly go on to top honours.

Junior Bitch (2)(1)

1ST Cox’s Silverbriar Imogen of Petitpaws. Nice type but just at that age where full maturity is on the horizon. Feminine head gentle expression with lovely dark melting eyes. Proportions and angulation throughout are good. Her movement was OK but lacked animation.

Post Graduate Bitch (1)(0)

1ST Heath’s Skyeshire Rosie. Well presented and handled. However, she was managing to stand bum high at times but certainly level on the move. Good head, correct eye and ear set. She is one of those who has to be gone over to be fully appreciated as there is no exaggeration throughout. Her movement was fluid with drive.

Limit Bitch (4)(0)

1ST Burscough’s Kilfinan Nightingail. For me she is the picture of a classic Skye. She is balanced with correct length to height. Pleasing head and eye. Ear set spot on. Good neck and shoulders. Elegant neck which certainly enhanced her level topline. Strong rear without exaggeration. Movement was fluid and effortless. All topped by her best Sunday jacket. A well deserved CC.

2ND Grainger’s Black Cuillins Catriona (Imp Deu) JW. A bitch I admired as a puppy. She has grown a little larger than I would have expected however she is still balanced and level. Strong head. Good front and rear assembly. Movement was a little stilted.

3RD Curtis’ Brakemill Midsummer Dream JW

RES McLeod’s Esgia's Lone Wolf

Open Bitch (1)(0)

1ST Whincup’s Gleanntan Look at Me at Partisky (Imp USA). She is certainly a character and enjoys being shown. Standing she fills the eye. Lovely head, dark eye and large white teeth. Nice arch to the neck leading into correct, tight front assembly. Good rib to loin ratio. Strong rear. She was definitely one of the happiest movers on the day.

Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch (3)(1)

1ST McLeod’s Noap Charoit Madlen Mardzheri at Esgia (Imp Rus).

2ND McLeod’s Esgia's Lone Wolf. Shown in good hard condition. Not as feminine as winner but certainly low to ground. Soundly constructed which was reflected in her movement.
