Skye Terriers

PD (1)

1 McLeod’s Esgia’s Murray’s Olympic Gold, 11 months old black, presenting a nice balanced outline when standing. Lovely strong muzzle, good stop & great width of skull. Good medium shaped eyes with a lovely expression. Large ears with plenty of fringing coming, but would prefer them to be better set. Super length of neck, leading into well placed broad shoulders. Excellent depth of chest. For his age he has super body with a lovely oval ribcage laying well back into a short loin. Topline held firm at all times. Well angulated hindquarters, with good muscle. Moved around the ring with power & sound both coming & going, unfortunately his outline is spoilt by a proud tail. Coat really coming on & of a good texture.

LD (3,1a)

1 Parker’s Glorfindel Deacon Brodie, 2½ years old male who presents a typical outline when viewed from across the ring. He has a lovely strong masculine head, with good width to his skull & the correct strong jaw. His ears are well fringed & set correctly, but he could use them to advantage more when on the floor. Good length of neck with a slight crest, laying back well into good front angulation. Front legs short & straight, with elbows close to chest. Good depth of chest. Ribs set well back into a short loin, for me I would like a fraction more body on him. Topline held level at all times. Strong well angulated hindquarters, with straight legs. Tailset a fraction too high off the back, therefore when moving he carries it’s proudly detracting from his outline, but he moves with drive & very sound fore & after. His is needing a little more length of coat, but he has a good coat of the correct texture;

2 Smiths’ Lam-Baias Mad Max at Marrcrieff, very striking cream dog when viewed from across the ring, slightly taller than 1, but with a great length to him. He has a lovely head, of the correct proportions & of good strength. Well set, black fringed ears, used well at all times. Good length of neck leading into good shoulder placement. For me his front legs are too tied & I would like to see his elbows closer to his chest. Enough depth of chest. Ribcage of a good length, but a little flat. Level topline, with tailset correctly off the level of the back. Good strong hindquarters. Moved well & soundly both ways. Presented in lovely condition.

OD (4,1)

1 Breeze’s Ch Salena The Special One, I judged this dog around two years ago when I awarded him RBIS at the Skye Terrier Club open show, I thought he was lovely then but now at 4 years old, he really has matured into something ‘special.’ My attention was drawn straight towards him & from the moment he first entered the ring to the moment he left, he didn’t put a foot wrong. When standing he presents a picture of perfect balance, long, low & keeping a table top topline at all times. To get your hands on him he does not disappoint. He has a lovely masculine head, of good strength, with well placed ears that are fringed beautifully. Lovely length of neck, leading into well placed shoulders. He probably has the best front you could go over on a Skye, with elbows tucked right into his chest & perfectly straight forelegs. Great depth of chest. Lovely oval ribs laying right back into a short loin & well covered with the right amount of body. Strong, well angulated hindquarters with good muscletone, which he used well to power around the ring with great drive. So sound both coming & going. Tailset perfecting & carried well when moving. He is presented in tip-top condition with a lovely silver coat & handled to the best advantage. I was delighted to award him the CC & BOB & thought he represented the breed very well in the group;

2 Curtis’ Brakemill Barnum, another quality dog who is incredibly glamorous to look at with a full cream coat & lovely black points. When viewing him from across the ring he hasn’t the elegance as 1, but holds a lovely firm topline & is long & low. He has a gorgeous head, masculine & of a good strength. Correct strong jaw, with a good bite. He has well placed ears beautifully furnished with long black fringing. Adequate length of neck, laying back into well placed shoulders. For me I would prefer straighter forelegs & tighter elbows. Great depth of chest. Ribs deep & oval but not as long as long as I would like, therefore giving him a longer loin. Well bodied, well angulated, strong hindquarters & with good muscletone. He moved around the ring very soundly & with style keeping a firm topline at all times. Tail set well & never carried above the level of his back, presented immaculately. RCC.

VD (1)

1 Macqueen’s Lynaire Mr Darcey of Azrakhan, at 10 years of age this boy really is still full of life & loving it. He has a strong masculine head, with lovely black furnishings & barely any grey to show his age. Well placed, large ears. He is lovely to go over, with a good length of neck leading into the correct front angulation. Lovely oval ribs set well back, bodied well. Strong rearquarters, well muscled, & straight legs. Tail set correctly off a good topline, which occasionally he can dip but you would expect that from a 10 year old. In excellent coat & condition. Moved out very well & soundly & so full of himself.

PB (1)

1 McLeod’s Esgia’s Andi’s Wimbledon Dream, silver 11 months old bitch, who is the sister to the PD winner & has many of the same attributes. Lovely balanced outside when standing, presenting the three ‘L’s’ very pretty bitch, lovely feminine head & cheeky expressive eyes which are of a good shape & colour. Ears set well & with lovely fringing coming. Good length of neck laying right back onto well placed shoulders. Front legs short, but could be straighter. Well bodied, with the correct oval ribcage setting right back into a short loin. Nice strong hindquarters with enough muscle for her age. Moved very positively & soundly but like her brother carries a proud tail which spoils her outline when moving. In good coat & condition. BP.

PGB (2)

1 Neilson’s Celticbridge Dawn Spangles at Auchenbathie, 3 years old silver bitch of a good honest type. Pretty head of the correct proportions, with a lovely expression. Well placed ears, with enough furnishing. Good neck & shoulders, would prefer straighter forelegs & elbows tighter to her chest. Ribs oval & set well back. Well bodied & holding a firm topline at all times. Well developed hindquarters, short straight legs. Moved soundly, both coming & going just would like to see a little more drive & enthusiasm;

2 Smiths’s Marrcrieff Glenn Glamis 2 year old silver bitch of a lovely shape & outline. Feminine head, with enough strength to foreface, good stop & width to skull, well pleased ears, which she used well throughout. Long neck, with slight crest, laying well back into good shoulder placement. Short, straight front legs. Deep chest, correct oval ribcage, set right back giving her the correct short loin. Level topline with her tailset right off the level of her back. Good muscular well angled hindquarters, which she used well when moving. In lovely coat & condition. Unfortunately she was extremely nervous after a bad experience before, but please keep pursuing with her as she really is a lovely bitch & could maybe have gone further today had the situation been different.

LB (2) A.

1 Barrass’ Lavaux Spirit Of The Isle of Gallondean, glamorous 3 years old, black, in lovely coat & condition. When standing she presents & good outline, maybe a fraction taller than I would like, but long & level. Gorgeous head, with a lovely expression. Beautifully set ears, dripping in fringing that frames her head well. She has a good length of neck, slightly crested leading well back into well placed shoulders. Elbows tight enough to her chest & forelegs short & straight. Excellent depth of chest & body throughout. Good oval ribs sets well back into a nice short loin. Well angulated hindquarters, with good muscletone. Tail set well & never carried above the level of her back. Moved out well & soundly, to be slightly critical I would like to see a little more front reach. Presented & handling exceptionally. I considered her for the RCC;

2 Neilson’s Celticbridge Dawn Spangles at Auchenbathie.

OB (4,1)

1 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Cruisader, very honest 5 years old bitch who doesn’t have the ‘look at me’ way about her, but it is when you get your hands on her you realise her qualities. She is so feminine & has a lovely head of good strength, & a very pretty expression. Her ears are well placed with good fringing, framing her head nicely. She has a good length of neck, leading well back in the correctly placed shoulders. She had the best front in the class, with her elbows tight to her chest & forelegs short & straight. She has a good deep chest & has a superb body on her. Her ribs are of the correct oval shape & lay well back into a short loin. Good, well angulated, well muscled hindquarters, with straight legs. Tail set well off a level topline. In good coat of the correct texture. She moves out soundly & with enough drive but the handler needs to make sure she gets her going more otherwise she tends to ‘plod’ around the ring & she doesn’t show off what she actually has got. I was close to awarding her the CC today, however she had to give way to the stunning veteran bitch who really pulled out all the stops today, RCC;

2 Breeze’s Salena Certain Something, a quality bitch, who does scream ‘look at me’. She is very stylish when viewed from the side & does present a lovely typical outline. She is extremely feminine but doesn’t lack strength. She has a good head, with a lovely expression. She is lacking hair from her foreface, which makes it look fine but when you get your hands on her she isn’t fine. She has a super length of neck which lays back into broad well placed shoulders. Her ribs are oval & are set well back, but unfortunately she was lacking quite a bit of weight today, which lost her out on top honours. Well angulated, strong hindquarters, with enough muscletone. Firm topline held level at all times. Moved out exceptionally well, flowing around the ring with drive. Sound both ways. Presented & handled superbly like always by this handler.

VB (2,1)

Two very lovely veterans.

1 Macqueen’s Ch Azrakhan Capercaillie, my surprise of the day! As soon as this bitch walked in I thought ‘wow’ she is just everything I look for in a Skye. Her outline is so typical & she is full of breed type. I loved her head, so feminine, but not lacking the strength needed in a Skye head. Strong foreface with a good stop & good width of skull. Ears well set, dripping in furnishings framing her head beautifully. She is so lovely to go over, great length of neck, laying well back into broad shoulders, that are set well. Her elbows are close to her chest & her forelegs short & straight. Super depth of chest. She is bodied so well & has lovely deep oval ribs that go right back into the correct short loin. Super strong, well angulated hindquarters that are muscled well, legs straight. Tail set correctly but to be a tiny bit critical I would like to see her use it a little more on the move. When moving, she flows around the ring effortlessly & with drive, seeing her pads as she walks away. Sound both coming & going. Presented in A1 condition in a super black coat, with not one single grey hair, you would never think she was 7. She really pulled out all the stops today & I was delighted to award the CC;

2 Shuttleworth’s Perrylands Stroller, 9 years old silver but looking great for her age. A very pretty bitch, with a lovely head of the correct proportions & feminine expression. Long neck, leading well back into correctly placed shoulders. Good straight front legs. Deep chest, lovely deep oval ribs set back into a short loin. Carrying maybe a bit too much weight but we all forgive that in a veteran. Excellent hindquarters, with good angulation & great muscletone. Good tailset that was never carried about her back. Moved out exceptionally well & very sound. In excellent coat & condition & presented very well.
