SKYE SKC MAY 12 Judge(s) MRS C L GARLAND-COLLINS DCC GLORFINDEL BLACK MAGE (G MARSHALL) SKYE TERRIER I would like to thank the SKC for their invitation to judge our breed and to award CC's for the first time. We were last in the ring and I thank the exhibitors for their patience and the stewards for doing an excellent job after such a tiring day. I was pleased that teeth were clean on all exhibits and there were no obese dogs. Hindquarters on the dogs were on the whole good with no real 'tummy ticklers'. Fronts however, gave me cause for concern in some exhibits. Some were very narrow indeed and a couple were 'tied in' at the elbow. Both conditions affect the movement of the dog, with very little reach in front , which the dog seems to compensate for by stretching forward from the head when moving. Mouths were all good. and I was more than happy with my winners Temperaments were exemplary across the board. PD (3,2) 1 Parker's Glorfindel Deacon Brodie. Lively 10 month old, dark silver puppy. Good masculine head, dark eye and lovely expression. Would prefer a tighter ear set. Correct front assembly, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Good length of body and well developed hindquarters for his age. Coat coming in well. He's still at the 'loose' stage in movement, which will tighten with age and he needs to concentrate a little more , something which will also come as he matures. Wonderful temperament, very happy puppy. PGD (4,1) 1 Robson's Daredevil Dan with Mitsui. Confident 3 year old cream. Very masculine dog, mature head, dark eye and good expression. Well set, nicely fringed ears with reasonable pigment. Correct front, lovely elbow placement, enough length of neck and well laid shoulders. Level topline, the 2 to 1 ratio of rib to loin spot on. Good hindquarters with well developed thigh muscles. Moved with drive, full mature coat of hard texture. Well presented. 2 Stewarts Glorfindel Secret Service. Black 2 year old. Well constructed head and dark eye. Good expression and well fringed ears. Would have preferred a little more width in front and more reach of neck. He has a lovely level top line with correct length of rib to loin. Good hindquarters with good muscle tone. Moved out well. Full coat of correct texture. 3 Smiths Lam Baias Mad Max At Marrcrieff. LD (3) 1 Glorfindel Black Mage. Quite lovely 2 year old black. Gorgeous head and ear placement. Dark eye and good expression. Super length of neck, correct front. Elbow placement and shoulders spot on. Enough length of rib and good firm loin giving him a lovely level top line. Well developed hindquarters enabling good drive from behind. Moved with purpose and correct tail carriage. Immaculate coat of hard texture. Excellent presentation. Had the better overall finish over the bitch in the challenge for BOB. No hesitation in awarding him Dog CC and BOB. 2 Shuttleworths Whicheeta Celtic Keepsake. Silver 3 year old. Beautiful masculine head, dark eye with lovely expression. Well placed, nicely fringed ears. Good length of neck, front ok, Good length of topline, just dipping slightly behind shoulders when relaxed. Well developed hindquarters and he moved out well. Coat of correct texture but lacking in undercoat today. Well presented but he needs to body up a little. 3 Binnies Celticbridge Snowstorm. OD (2) 1 Samuels Ch Skyelander Wee Man of Storr. Lovely 5 year old drop ear. Beautiful masculine head , dark eye and lovely expression. Ears absolutely correct and a pleasure to see. Good front assembly , excellent length of body, topline ok. Very well muscled, correct hindquarters. Moved well. Mature coat of correct texture and plenty of it. Superb temperament, typical of a drop ear - any more laid back and he'd fall over. A real joy. Res DCC. 2 Harrisons Ch Papplewick Knockando of Trenson ShCM. Cream 3 year old, who I loved as a puppy and still does not disappoint. Good, masculine head, dark eye and great expression. Well placed ears nicely fringed of reasonable pigment. Excellent front, elbows and shoulder placement. Correct 2 to 1 ration of rib to loin length, but just dipping a little behind the shoulders when stood. I do think that some of the dogs were rather tired after their long wait and that can affect the top line a little. Super muscled hindquarters, which he used to good effect on the move. Tail carried a little high but a happy Skye is no bad thing. In lovely coat, well presented. There was little to choose between these 2 champions but just preferred the head and tail carriage of 1. PB (2,1) 1 Marshalls Glorfindel Sugar Puf. Silver 10 month old very pretty girl, wonderful feminine head but with adequate length and depth of muzzle. Dark eye and sweet expression, excellent ear placement, carriage and feathering. Super length of neck and so correct front. Good length of rib, short loin and lovely hindquarters, moved with confidence and drive for one so young. Coat of hard texture coming in well, very well presented. Very composed but alert young bitch, which again belies her age. Must have a very exciting future, one which I'll watch with interest. BP. JB (1) 1 Barrass's Lavaux Spirit of The Isle of Gallondean. Black 15 month old. Another very feminine young lady. Good head, dark eye and sweet expression. Correct ear placement and carriage with feathering just coming in nicely. Correct front assembly, good length of rib and short loin, but is just tucking up a bit when stood. Good hindquarters, well muscled for age. Moved out well. Coat coming in, just at that inbetween stage at the moment. Overall well balanced bitch. If I was nit-picking I would prefer a longer tail. LB (2) 1 Shuttleworth's Whitcheeta Celtic Crusader. Silver 3 year old with a lot to like. Lovely head, but with good length and depth of muzzle which lends strength even to the most feminine of heads, as here. The jaw of a Skye bitch should be fit for function ie able to hold on to prey in difficult conditions. Well laid shoulders and correct angle to point of shoulder. Elegant neck of good length. Lovely balance of rib to loin ratio and level topline. Super hindquarters which she uses to good effect on the move with plenty of drive from behind. Yes, she was in her summer dress having left some of her undercoat behind , but it is of good texture and more than adequate length. Well presented and sympathetically handled. Could not deny her, her first CC. Well done. 2 Smith's Glorfindel Messalina at Marrcrieff Grey 3 year old, imposing bitch. Excellent head dark eye and good expression. Ears well placed , carried and feathered. Good length of neck. Found her a little close in front. Has good length of body and a firm loin. Good hindquarters which gave her some drive from behind. In glorious mature coat of correct texture and good length. Well balanced bitch overall but she is a little too big for me. OB (5,1) 1 Marshall's Ch Glorfindel Lucretia. Dark silver 3 year old. Another very pretty girl, feminine head, dark eye and very sweet expression. Would like a little more length of muzzle, which cost her in the challenge. Super ear placement, carriage and feathering. Very elegant neck and sound front. Spot on 2 to 1 ratio of length of ribcage and loin, her top line never wavered. Lovely, strong hindquarters and moved with drive and confidence. Coat quite lovely and of good texture and length, beautifully presented. Very classy bitch. Res CC. 2 Mcleod's Ch Esgia's Sula The Late Edition ShCM. Dark silver 4 year old. Lovely , elegant bitch , dark eye and the sweetest expression. Would just prefer more depth of muzzle. Well placed ears, correct carriage and lovely feathering. She is a well balanced bitch with good length of neck and rib and short loin, she held her top line well. Good hindquarters with plenty of muscle. She moved well , but seemed a little tired after a very long day. Beautiful full, mature coat of good length and texture. Very well presented and sympathetically handled. 3 Robson's Lynaire Shes No Lady With Mitsui. Corinne Garland-Collins |
