SKYE JUDGE RICHMOND 10

SKYE TERRIER

Many sincere thanks to all the exhibitors who entered at this Championship Show, considering I have been away from Judging the breed for around twenty years. I came with an open mind having not attended a show over the past three years where the breed was scheduled. I must say, 1 truly enjoyed my time judging and being with you on the day. I recommend to other judges generally to take a year or so out, then come back fully refreshed. I feel the breed, from what I saw at this show is overall in good heart, despite the entries I understand being down numerically at the shows over the past year or so. It has happened over the past fifty years I have been within the breed, when the country has had a little “dip” in the economic world, and during the industrial strike periods. Exhibitors have to take care of what is in their pockets. I am certain things will return to normality soon. The entry for today was considered to be good for this year with 25 exhibits giving 25 entries. My principal winners were. Best of Breed. Dog C.C. Barraclough’s Ch. Skyeotts Midnight Majesty At Wemoway (Imp) Reserve Dog C.C. Richardson’s Talyot Learchus. Bitch C.C. Bailey & Hansel’s Ch Silisia Firenze. Res Bitch C.C. McLeod’s Esgia’s Sula the Late Edition (Sh.CM).

1. Res C.C. Richardson’s Talyot Learchus. 15mth. Black. Looked the part on entering the ring today. I liked the overall length of this dog. He is certainly my type overall. Lovely balanced head dark alert eyes, correct placed ears on top well furnished. Sound clean mouth, Strong crested neck good shoulders and deep front on sound feet. I liked his body and rib area his loin and hind quarters have strength ensuring he is sound on moving front and rear, he could go all day. Well presented throughout

2. Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Keepsake. This dog is similar to the winner, however today I felt he was not giving of his best, he needs to settle in the ring. Overall he has quality.

PGD (2.)

1. Harrisons’s Papplewick Knockando for Trenson. Lovely Cream. I liked the shape of this exhibit overall. Nice balanced head, and those expressive eyes, ears well placed and a sound mouth. Well made neck to shoulders and good front body and rib, sound loin and hind section, I would have liked better movement. Maybe he needs getting out steady walking.

2. Hansel’s Mighty Mouse by Marjayn. Now over two. A nice proportioned dog, good length of body. Has a lovely balanced head, alert eyes, and sound mouth, wears are well placed. Neck was nicely crested and shoulders developed to deep front body and hind section has strength. I would again have liked better movement today. At present lacking coat so was somewhat undressed for the party.

LD (1.)

1. Parker’s Glorfindel Basil Brush (ShCM). (Nothing Basil Brush about this dog) Light Silver, Overall well balanced, lovely quality head well proportioned. Dark knowing eyes, sound clean mouth, nicely placed black ears. I liked his crested neck and shoulders, front and good feet. Well sprung body ribs to Loin and hind quarter which were well constructed. On moving I would have liked to have seen more strength-depth in the hind movement. He’s still a quality dog and seriously considered in the final line-up.

OD (7,2)

1. Dog C.C. & Best of Breed Barraclough’s Ch. Skyeotts Majesty At Wemoway. (Imp). (Drop Ear) The first time I have had the pleasure of putting my hands on this exhibit, now coming Seven years of age, and still in super show condition. He is overall a lovely dog, so I went over him twice. What a great head, and the smiling eyes that twinkle. Sound clean mouth. His ears are in the correct line of his head. This dog has one of the finest crested neck sections with strength to his shoulders and chest area, excellent bone to his good front feet. Lovely constructed body of length to the best of loin areas that gave drive to the well constructed hind legs and correct feet. Tail was well set and carried well to assist my final decision. His coat in the best of condition and presentation.

2. Breeze’s Ch. Salena Black Shadow. Four years old. Another quality exhibit that I have not seen previously. I feel he is a little finer in construction than above. I did like him a great amount overall. He has a lovely head of balance and quality. Correct ear placement on top. Dark alert eyes, sound clean mouth, good mucked neck to shoulders and front chest, I like his spring of rib and body length to loin and hind quarter which was well made, I would have liked more drive in the overall movement.

3. Samuel’s Skyelander Wee Man of Storr. Unfortunate to meet the two above today. I am certain he has a good future before him.

VB (1)

JB (4,1)

1. Woodhead’s Knowlespring Dream Cream. 18mth as her names suggests a lovely cream. Overall a lovely type. Refined balanced head dark eye that is alert. Sound clean mouth, well placed furnished ears on top of skull. I liked her neck and shoulders to her front which will develop more, and her body length will develop more to her loin and hind quarters. This bitch moved sound front and rear, Lovely presentation.

2. White’s Salena Special Effect at Gumshoe. Lovely youngster 14mths. Has all the attributes required for the breed. Lovely head, dark eyes with understanding expression, sound mouth, correct ear placement, nice neck and shoulders still to develop. Good length of body that again will develop more, well constructed hind quarters and sound tail. The coat is one of quality and was overall well presented.

3. Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Cruisader.

LB (2)

 1. McLeod’s Esgia’s Sula the Late Edition (ShCM). A youngster with a very bright future only two and a half year old. Super balanced head, black kindly eyes with a sparkle, correctly placed drop ear full furnished. Nice strength of crested neck into her shoulders and deep chest. Nice length of developed body with good spring of rib, Sound loin area and developed hind quarters. Sound in all aspects of movement. Quality presentation overall.

2. Gajowiak’s Another lovely bitch with overall quality. Again her head is balanced and of super quality, dark kindly and assuring eyes. sound mouth, ears correctly placed on head and well furnished. Sound developed neck into shoulders and chest. Good ribbed body, and hind area. Moved well front and rear.

OB (4)

A super class.

1. Bitch C.C. Bailey & Hansel’s Ch. Silisia Firenze. A bitch I have not seen previously and now over seven years of age. Super dark silver in lovely full coat of quality. This bitch just has everything including “Style” in the right hands for the show ring. The finest quality head, Great developed crested neck, shoulders and chest area, Lovely length of body with nice spring of rib to well developed hind quarters. Sound in movement front and rear. A credit to the breed.

2. Barraclough’s Ch & Su Ch. Skyeotts Amnesix High Sky Miracle of Wemoway (Imp). Again never seen previously by me. Her title tells you everything. She again is one of the great skye terriers I have had the pleasure of going over. I know the continental stock. If you have a top (F.C.I.) winner it is full of quality. This lady is one of them and a pleasure to go over. Again she has all the qualities referred to previously that I do not need to repeat.

3. Breeze’s Solena Secret Passion. Four years old, lovely quality bitch however unfortunate to come up against the previous winners. When you see the winners of this class at a future show, ask permission to go over them, they are classic quality in their own right, and the breed are fortunate in having such breeding lines still available in this Country. They must be preserved. May I thank all the exhibitors for their welcome back into the Skye Terrier show ring and I wish you all success and a very happy time in the breed. To our stewards we appreciate your assistance and thank you for working for this breed.
