Skye Terriers

Great show to be judging at such a lovely venue & hospitality. I cannot say I was not disappointed with the Skye Terrier entry but all were present & the quality was high, we are such a vulnerable breed but to have quality dogs shown from just a few was heartening.

1 Bailey’s Talyot Nimrod by Marjayn, the last time I saw this dog at a show felt he needed a lot more, today I can see a great improvement, my thoughts are that he could do with another year. He has the strength & length of head, nice gradual stop, good expressive eye with shape & colour, well set & carried pricked ears unfortunately not well furnished, has a long clean crested neck of strength, the shoulders are set well back with good forequarter angulation, depth of chest, oval ribs well back in this long body to well muscled hindquarters. Short straight powerful forelegs & padded big feet, hindquarters well muscled. Held his topline firmly on the move, nice tailset & carriage. Cream with black points, the coat has potential of good growth, nice texture with undercoat, head has good veiling. Moved out well with clean rear pads showing drive, fore moving well forward.

1 Breeze’s Salena The Magnificent One, a young dog from this talented kennel owner who has brought out another quality one of good breed type. Loved this boy’s outline, is long, low & level, has a good strong long head, plenty of veil & furnishings to face, slight stop, dark expressive eyes, better of the two on ear shape & set but not yet carrying full fringes. Good length to slightly crested neck into well laid shoulders, strong broad backline to nice tailset & carried correctly. Correct angles & depth to chest with width, straight enough, well boned short forelegs with big round feet. Very well ribbed back body, short loin, strong angled hindquarters with short hocks. Carrying a well presented quality grey double coat. Stylish mover sound both ends with drive & forward action. CC & BOB;

2 Curtis’ Ch Brakewll Barnum, one of the breed’s top winners & has certainly improved & developed since I had the opportunity to judge him 2 years ago. Certainly eyecatching in his stunning well presented double cream coat. Correct masculine head with strength & length, fab veiling covering kind dark eyes. Ears little low set, used well with lovely black fringes. Well handled to show off his neck, for me needing more length, shoulders requiring more layback, firm level topline could do with a little more length, strong muscular hindquarters with a good set & carried tail. Correct width & depth of chest, short well boned forelegs might be straighter, well padded big feet. A body of substance with good ribs needing to be further back giving him less length of loin. Muscular strength giving powerful drive clean pads, good forward trust. RCC.

1 Whincup’s Bunnybois Inspiration, certainly well named as she gave me inspiration today to award her top honours. This bitch has come on over the last year, I saw her last at Crufts & felt she was stunning. Today she did not disappoint. Lovely to go over with feminine head of strength with good detail & length, kind dark eyes well veiled. Correct ear shape with nice black furnishings. She has the three L’s, being level backed with length, nice tail. Excellent angles front & rear, front legs short & well boned, & straight, thick padded forward feet. Muscular hindquarter, short hocks. Super body with substance & depth with oval ribs well back into short loin covered in an excellent well presented double cream coat. Today I thought she had thrown away any chance as she completed her first movement which was a bit unsettled, but pulled it together & in the challenge, moved well. CC, BOS.

1 Curtis’ Ch Brakewell Briar Rose, another who has in my opinion come on in leaps & bounds & fits the breed Standard well. Very feminine head, has strength & length, well veiled over dark expressive eyes, correct ear shape & set, well fringed. Enough neck length, well set into well laid back shoulders, into a back with enough length, nice set & carried tail. Nice angulated front & rear, straightish short well boned forelegs & biggish well padded forward feet. Deep chest body, well ribbed back into short loin, nice substance, covered with a lovely presented & textured grey coat. Very good mover, not quite the side stride of my winner but has drive but had an occasional little hop action, forward thrust. RCC;

2 Breeze’s Salena Silver Sapphire, very pretty to look at on the stance with a nice outline, but in my opinion there is not quite enough of her. Well shaped head, enough stop but would like more strength & length, dark expressive eyes under good veil, neat well held ears. Strong neck needing more length, well held firm topline needing more length of back, nice set & carriage of tail. Good body strength, correct oval deep ribs well back. Well conditioned & presented silver grey coat with good undercoat. Strong quarters, well boned, straight short well boned forelegs, elbows need to tighten, biggish forefeet. Very stylish sound mover, covers ground well.
