SKYE JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 19

My thanks to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge the most prestigious terrier show anywhere, which I thoroughly enjoyed, especially as it is my 41st year in Skyes My entry was good with one absentee from an entry of 22 dogs. With a few exceptions, all dogs were clean and well groomed; it is after all a beauty show. Temperaments in general were good; I only found 1 with suspect temperament. I felt that fronts were very mixed there is no room for complacency. The size seems to becoming a problem, too big. Some bitches were bigger than the dogs. Length of loin on some dogs needs to be watched as does coat texture, some bordering on linty coats. My BOB and bitch CC winner Grainger's Whucheeta Celtic Connection was a stunning black bitch that fitted the standard so well. When I saw her she took my breath away, so trypical and correct. She is the litter sister to the dog I gave RBIS at the brred club show four years ago, Shuttleworth's silver dog Whicheeta Celtic Keepsake Sh CM. My dog CC winner was Curtis' Ch Brakemill Barnum and my Best Puppy was a very pleasing cream young boy McClean and Weir's Knowlespring Jackpot at Rhoderns who, when he is mature, will trouble the best.

PD (1)

1 and Best Puppy McClean and Weir's Kowlespring Jackpot at Rhodern, a lovely cream puppy with a correct ear set. Lovely expression with correct shaped eye. Scissor bite and lovely head shape on a crested neck. Correct front and topline with well let down hocks. Good coat for age. He moved well but is still in need of time to mature. I would be delighted to see him in 18 months. A lovely youngster who I'm sure will trouble the best.

JD (2)

1 and RDCC Pringle's Esgia the Exciseman, young cream dog of just over 17 months. Pleasing head and expression with correct earset and scissor bite, strong underjaw and lovely big teeth. Good length of neck and forehand. Good body shape kept his topline on the move. Promising youngster.

2 Mason's Bhatairnis Fasach. Not the quality of the winner. Poor condition

LD (3)

1 Herbert's Tweedsmuir Stargazer. Dark silver dog of 4 years Good head shape and expression. Correct earset and strong neck. Level topline and good tail set. Moved OK.

OD (3)

1 Woodhead's Knowlespring Drummer Boy. A 3 year old cream dog who was enjoying his day out and presented a lovely picture. Typical of the excellent stock his breeder produces. Typical head, good ear placement and expression. Correct scissor bite. Crested neck going into good forehand. Short loin and good tail set. Rear angulation good and moved soundly

2 Large's Juger Edelweiss Mickey Mouse is Madaza. I judged this boy and gave him RBPIS at the breed open show 4 years ago. A good well balanced dog with no exaggerations. Masculine head with correct earset. Correct scissor bite with large teeth. Powerful neck going into good forehand. Correct topline and tailset. Moved well.Wish his coat had cleared better.

3 Breeze's Linum Cranberry Crush at Salena

VD (2)

1 and DCC Curtis' Ch. Brakemill Barnum Sh CM. This cream dog was presented in beautiful condition and full coat with correct outline and he moved with drive. Lovely head, ear placement, dark eye and expression. Strong underjaw with good sized teeth, correct scissor bite. Crested neck, good shape of rib with heartroom. Would prefer a shorter loin, good tail set. Rear angulation good with short hocks.

2 Parker's Glorfindel Deacon Brodie Sh CM. Dark silver dog, strong head with good bite and underjaw. Good ear placement, powerful neck into correct forehand. Well ribbed, good rear angulation and tail set. Held topline on move.

MPB (1)

1 Herbert's Finnsky Yves 11 month old bitch of quality who moved very well. Feminine head with lovely expression and ear set. Good bite and strong underjaw. Very good front and length of rib. Kept topline on the stance and on the move.

JB (4,1)

1 Duncan's Verumamicus Ambrosia of Kyloran. 17 month old cream of quality. Long, low and level. Feminine head and expression. Good bite and strong teeth. Clean neck flowing into good shoulders. Correct length of rib cage with plenty of heart room

2 Bailey's Celticbridge Ocean Belle at Marjayn. 17 month old cream bitch Feminine head and expression. Good ear placement and correct bite. Nice length of rib with plenty of heartroom. Good rear angulation.

3 Pringle's Esgia First and Fairest

PGB (1)

1 and RCC, Large's Parrima-Arih Universe of My Fantasy at Madaza JW. Cream bitch of quality who I am sure will go on to higher things. Lovely head, ear placement and expression. Strong underjaw with good sized teeth, correct scissor bite. Crested neck going into excellent forehand, good length of rib with heartroom. Short loin and good tail set. Rear angulation good with short hocks. Moved soundly and with drive.

LB (1,1)

1 Parker's Tweedsmuir Feebee Mine. Cream bitch with pleasing head and expression. Correct earset with plenty of feathering. Good forehand and length of rib. Good bend of stifle.

OB (3)

1 BCC and BOB Grainger's Whicheeta Celtic Connection, nearly 10 year old bitch that proves that like good wine Skye Terriers get better with age. Black bitch of excellent type. Has the 3 L's, long, low, level. Excellent construction all through. Feminine head with lovely expression. Correct bite with large teeth and punishing jaw. Good ear placement and feathering. Elegant crested neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. Shoulder placement is very good with correct length of scapula to upper arm allowing her to move effortlessly around the ring. Good spring of rib with plenty of heartroom, short loin. Good rear angulation and short hocks which complements the forehand. In full coat and beautifully presented. An absolute joy to go over

2 Woodhouse's Knowlespring Candy Cane. This 3 tear old cream young lady was unfortunate to meet the winner of this class. Full coat of correct texture. Feminine head and expression. Good bite and strong teeth. Clean neck flowing into good shoulders. Correct length of rib cage with plenty of heart room. Level topline.

3 Curtis' Ch Brakemill Briar Rose
