SKYE JUDGE WELKS 15

Skye Terriers

My thanks to the committee for their warm welcome & excellent hospitality & to the exhibitors for a good entry of 28 dogs. I was very pleased with my main winners & thought our representative in the Group ring gave a very polished performance of a classical Skye at his best.

MPD (1)

1 Large’s Juger Edelweiss Mickey Mouse is Madaza, what an impressive 6 months drop-ear this young man is. Well-balanced skull & foreface, nice dark eye & that “get a piece at any door” expression that drops very often have & a good scissor bite. Good neck & a nice front assembly, though a shade loose at the minute, should tighten up with maturity & exercise. Lovely length of rib & neat loin covered in a cream shaded coat for his age. Well-set & carried tail & he moved very well both coming & going & in profile & I was pleased to declare him BPD. I shall watch his career with great interest.

PD (2)

1 Harrison’s Glorfindel Shadow Dancer for Trenson, 11 months dark grey top-size puppy with a good balance of length to height ratio. Nicely balance skull & foreface with a well fringed ear & good bite. Nice length of neck & good run-in to a fairly well-laid shoulder, though just a shade loose at the moment. Good rib to loin balance & covered in a rather wavy, unruly coat but of good texture. Rather high tailset which spoiled the outline in profile & was a shade close going away;

2 Large’s Bunnybois Indulgence is Madaza, this birthday boy presented a nicely balanced outline covered in an attractive black jacket. Good head proportions & correct bite, ears a little wide set. Just a bit slack in front at the moment giving a rather wide front gait coming towards. Put down in very good muscled condition for his age & well handled.

JD (1)

1 Grainger’s Perrylands Munro, very promising cream youngster, coming up 16 months, with a very good quality true cream coat & beautifully balanced outline. Quality head proportions with lovely earset & a correct scissor bite. Lovely flowing neck runs into a really good set of shoulders with well-boned legs & feet. Excellent length of rib & neat short loin ensures a level topline all the time. Good muscling in his well-turned stifle ensuring steady flowing movement in profile & both coming & going away. An extremely beautiful young Skye with I am sure a very bright future. In consideration for the RCC but maturity won out on the day.

PGD (2)

1 King’s Fun And Games at Celticbridge, just coming up 2 years, this cream male possesses a nicely balanced outline covered in a good quality jacket & consistent topline. Good head proportions with nice dark eye & good scissor bite. Good length & strength of neck, good length of rib & strong loin & with very good muscling in a well-turned set of quarters. He moved extremely well, in difficult circumstances, in profile & up & down. To get the very best out of him he needs to be moved at a slightly faster pace;

2 McLeod’s Esgia Murray’s Olympic Gold, same age as winner but one who did not benefit from a change of handler which seemed to unsettle him. A balanced skull & strong foreface with rather wide-set ears & a broad scissor bite. Not the reach of neck, nor run in of shoulder of 1 but with good balance of length to height covered in a good quality dark grey coat. Rather fond of his tail on the move that may be due to his jolly temperament but lacked the overall elegance of the winner.

LD (2)

1 Bailey’s Talyot Nimrod by Marjayn, another cream who presents an overall balanced picture of good length to height ratio. Good head proportions with nice dark eye & a good scissor bite. Nice neckline running into a good set of shoulders with a long rib & short loin following all covered in a quality coat. Moved soundly both in profile & coming & going & reminded me so much of her champion of yesteryear, Mickey Mouse;

2 White’s Gumshoe Moses Jones, dark grey male coming up 3 years with good balance of length to height. He has a good strong head with well-furnished ears & good scissor bite. Nice neck & run-in to a slightly upright shoulder, but with good bone in the front legs. He has a profuse coat of quality. Firm muscletone in well-turned quarters, just a little too fond of his tail on the move & was not cooperating at all well with his handler which was a shame.

OD (5,1a)

1 Garland-Collins’ Bhuidh Here Be Dragons, sweeping all before him, this 5 year old has such a classical outline that took me back to the ‘70s & ‘80s when Skyes were shown in greater numbers than now & undoubtedly would have had his title then. He has the most beautiful of heads with correct proportions, beautifully set well-fringed ears, a lovely dark eye & a perfect scissor bite. A sweeping neck & run-in to a first-class front assembly is followed by a long, well-shaped ribcage & a neat, short loin covered in a beautiful, dark grey flowing coat. Lovely angulation in his very well-muscled set of hindquarters, allowing him to cover the ground with great purpose & precision, such a delight to watch. I felt he just had that extra bit of body length in overall balance over 2. I was delighted to award him his first CC, which was a surprise, considering his many qualities, & in another close decision later, awarded him BOB;

2 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Barnum, another top-quality Skye, this 3 years cream oozes quality & style & should always be in contention. Beautiful head proportions with superbly fringed black ears & such a balanced skull & foreface. A lovely dark eye & another perfect scissor bite completes his attractive headpiece. He has a lovely run-in to a very well-laid set of shoulders, followed with lovely long ribcage & the neat short loin that the Standard requires. His dead-level topline is covered with a cream coat of such beautiful texture which accentuated his positive flowing movement. Great muscletone & correct set tail completed the eyecatching picture of a top-quality exhibit. RCC;

3 Breeze’s Ch Selena The Special One.

MPB (1)

1 Lynch’s Lavaux Dancing Dreams, sweet headed baby standing a bit square & looking high in the leg at the moment, hopefully this be remedied when she does the stretch. She has very well fringed ears for her age & a nice eye & a good bite. Good reachy neck running into a developing front that is just a shade loose at the moment. Sound enough on the move & very sympathetically handled.

PB (5)

1 Burscough’s Glorfindel Shadow Wings at Kilfinnan, this 11 months puppy stood out in this class & has surely a very successful show career ahead of her. Sweetest of heads with a lovely dark eye, correct scissor bite & with very attentive well-fringed ears to finish the picture. Lovely neck & run in to an excellent front assembly, she has a very well-proportioned rib to loin balance giving that classical outline of a young Skye bitch. Good muscling for her age in a nicely angulated set of quarters allowing such precise & consistent movement, flowing in profile & so true fore & aft. Beautifully put down & so sympathetically handled I was delighted to see her placed PG4 at the end of the day. Definitely one for the future;

2 King’s Celticbridge Sea Shanty, attractive cream with the consistently best topline of the other exhibits in this class. Nicely balanced skull & foreface with nice dark eye & good scissor bite. Good body proportions & very good muscletone in a nicely turned set of quarters. Moved steadily in profile & both coming & going;

3 Whincup-Grindey’s Bunnybois Inspiration.

JB (2)

1 Garland-Collins’ Bhuidh Ae Fond Kiss, what a lovely outline & lowness to ground this 15 months silver grey young bitch has, with her well-balanced skull & foreface with correctly set & beautifully fringed ears & a lovely dark eye & correct bite. She has a beautiful neckline that runs nicely into a very good front assembly. Her topline is excellent all the time, created by the required long ribcage & short loin, with a well-muscled set of quarters allowing her to cover the ground with such ease & precision. Considered her seriously in the challenge for the RCC & I am sure her day will come;

2 Shuttleworth’s Perrylands Cassidy at Wicheeta, another well balanced young bitch with many of the same attributes as the winner. She has a very nice head & expression with good dark eye, earset & correct bite. Not quite so positive in topline at times standing but did level out on the move. In profile she was free-flowing & positive but was just a shade close going away. Well put down & very well handled.

PGB (1)

1 Marshall’s Skyewalker’s Ozone Baby, very feminine sweet-headed cream bitch of 16 months with well-balanced head, correct bite, lovely expression but unfortunately does not always use her fully fringed ears to advantage also ear set could be tighter. Nice neck & shoulders with excellent ribcage giving a good level topline, all covered with a quality coat. Beautifully presented & was well handled both standing & on the move. In profile & coming & going she covered the ground with ease.

LB (2)

1 White’s Gumshow Silent Witness, 2½ years dark grey bitch with a very nice head, nice dark eye & a good bite. Flowing neck into a good set of shoulders, good length of rib & a neat loin leads to a well-muscled set of quarters. She has a very good topline but sometimes can pull herself in & this shortens her outline. Moves very freely in profile but was a shade reluctant coming back. Like her littermate did not co-operate with her handler but did just enough to win this class over;

2 Shuttleworth’s Perrylands Stroller cum Wicheeta, at 9 years this veteran does not look her age. A really nice head with dark eye, good dentition & kindly expression. She has a well laid front assembly & a good rib & nicely muscled quarters for her age. She is not so firm in topline standing but did level on the move which she did but with not such a lot of enthusiasm. Pity there is not a veteran class at this top Terrier show.

OB (3)

1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Briar Rose, such a typical old “Merrymount” Skye is this young lady. My heart missed a beat when she flowed into the ring. Memories! Her outline is classic & her free-flowing movement comes from everything being in the right place. She has the sweetest of heads, elegant & with well-set, beautifully fringed ears & a correct scissor bite. A spot-on front assembly with good bone & neat feet. Excellent length of ribcage & a short loin ensure a correct, level topline & with her so very well-muscled quarters, moving is so smooth & effortless. A beautiful bitch & a privilege to go over. I was delighted to award her the CC & so pleased to see her & the dog in the challenge, so typical & so elegant, a lovely matching pair. Memories again!

2 Woodhead’s Ch/Ir Ch Knowlespring Mistletoe, top quality 4 years cream with a very good harsh coat. Elegant head with well-set & nicely fringed ears & a good scissor bite. Flowing neck into a good set of shoulders with good boned front legs & good feet. Well extended ribcage & a very well-muscled set of hindquarters. Covered the ground well in profile & both coming & going. Just a shade slack in topline on the stand at times but levelled out on the move & could not be denied the RCC;

3 Proud’s Dolphaz Debutante.
