SKYE JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 12

Skye Terriers
I admit to having some feelings of apprehension about this judging appointment. Over the last couple of years I have watched this wonderful breed with mounting despair as hind action on so many exhibits leaves much to be desired. There is a lack of drive in many & a definite pelvic twitch in some. A Skye’s movement should be free flowing & seemingly effortless. While interpretation of some aspects of the Standard may be considered to be subjective sound conformation & thus good movement cannot; they are essential. However I was pleased to find that although my entry was numerically small the overall quality of the majority of the Skye’s present was good.

JD & ND (0).

PGD (1)

1 White’s Talyot Menelaus at Gumshoe, good head & strong foreface, dark eye, good bite, pleasing ear carriage. Good reach of neck with well laid back shoulders & good front. Kept his topline both when stacked & on the move. Good presentation. RCC.

LD (3)

1 Richardson’s Talyot Learchus, dark silver dog, strong head & good bite, good neck & shoulders, held his topline well. Would perhaps like him a shade longer. Well presented;

2 Ankcorn’s Feorlig True Destiny of Pensford, well made cream dog with good pigmentation, strong level topline. Slightly taller than 1 & not the reach of neck. Moved with drive, well presented;

3 Hawkes & Mason’s Maridale Blueys Beach.

OD (4)

1 Miller’s Feorlig Arfur Sixpence, longest & lowest in this class & the best topline. Nice head, dark eye & good bite, excellent reach of neck going into well laid shoulders. Good movement powering around the ring, very well presented. CC & BOB;

2 Curtis’ Ch Gumshoe Bugsy Malone of Brakemill, I have previously awarded this dog a RCC. Masculine head with good bite, beautifully feathered ears, good neck & shoulders. Taller than 1 & his topline was rising up towards the rearend. On the move his rear action was stiff, not as free as 1;

3 Ch Papplewick Knockando for Trenson.

JB (1)

1 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Mistletoe, I really liked this 16 months young bitch, she shows a great deal of promise. Feminine with a good head, neck, shoulders & front, kept her topline well, moved around the ring freely, her good rearend providing excellent rear action. One to watch for the future.

NB (1)

1 Green’s Celticbridge Magical Charm, cream bitch, nice head, excellent topline. Would like a better front lacking in coat.

PGB (1)

1 Miller’s Feorlig Angel Dust, feminine bitch of good length, good reach of neck, good shoulders. Didn’t settle as well resulting in erratic movement.

LB (3)

1 Proud’s Knowlespring Dream Walk to Dolphaz, nice silver bitch, good head & dark eye, good bite, strong straight forelegs, good rear angulation. Good length with strong topline, excellent movement with powerful driving rear action. Just needs more coat;

2 Bailey & Hansell’s Cellticbridge My Lady by Marjayn, silver bitch, not looking happy in the ring, carrying too much weight & slack in topline;

3 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Dream Cream.

OB (3)

1 Miller’s Ch Feorlig Something Wicked, feminine bitch who demanded my attention. Lovely profile lower than the others in this class. Nice head & expression, good neck & shoulders, well assembled rear. Long & level both stacked & on the move. Moved out well, well presented in gleaming coat. Unfortunately she tired in the challenge for BOB & so lost out to the dog. CC;

2 Barraclough’s Ch/Sw Skyeotts Amnesix High Sky Miracle at Wemoway, another beautiful bitch who I have often admired from the side of the ring. A little taller than 1 & not as animated. Full of quality, in excellent coat & condition. RCC;

3 McLeod’s Ch Esgia’s Sula The Late Edition.
