SKYE JUDGE LEEDS 19

Thank you to the Society, my steward and the exhibitors for a quality entry. As always before the show some had been busy predicting the winners, I don’t know whether they were right or not, but I came home with a clear conscience. At the end of the day you can only judge what is in front of you and on occasions you are disappointed as ones you like just don’t perform on the day.

The ring conditions were not ideal – smelly, the grass was too long and again we had a ring with an upward incline going away from the judge. On the upside the weather was dry so at least the grass was not slippery. Ring condition certainly affected movement for a number of the exhibits and this did have a bearing on some of my decisions. Dogs were shown in a good clean condition and the majority of teeth were clean. We do need to keep an eye on size but also important to look at the overall balance.

JD ((1)(0)

1 McLean & Weir’s Knowlespring Jackpot at Rhoderns. 14 month cream with coat clearing nicely. Masculine head with strong muzzle and correct bite. Nice length of neck, good front, would like a little more length. Held his topline standing and on the move.

PGD (2)(0)

1 What a predicament these two presented. If I had gone totally on construction the placings would have been reversed. However, as my second would not co-operate with his handler with regard to moving I had to look at the overall picture and hence my placings.

1 Evans’ Celticbridge Man of War. Strong head, correct bite, adequate neck and shoulder. Would like more rib. Good rear. Well presented but very eager to leave the table. Moved out well.

2 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Total Eclipse. Dark young man, lower to ground than first. Masculine head, dark eye and pleasing foreface and muzzle. Good ear set. Correct front and rib to loin proportions were excellent. Well made and muscled rear quarters. As I said at this stage I thought I had my winner. Sadly and frustratingly for his owner it all went pear shaped when he totally refused to co-operate and move,.

LD (1)(0)

1 Herbert’s Tweedsmuir Stargazer. A long, level and elegant dog. Well presented, Pleasing head, good length of neck leading into correct shoulders. Good rib to loin proportions. Very powerful rear which he used well and wasn’t affected by the conditions.

OD (4)(0)

1 Thomson’s Glorfindel Shadow Boxer SHCM. I’ve admired him since a youngster watching him develop. He is a frustrating dog who is correctly made, balanced and so typical of the breed. Unfortunately he is not a natural showman and this is where he has tended to lose out. However, today perseverance paid off as dog and handler were in total accord and I was pleased to award him the CC.

2 Large’s Juger Edelweiss Mickey Mouse Is Madaza (Imp). Drop Ear who is still waiting to decide what colour he will eventually end up. Excellent head and ear placement, good dark eye. Correct and proportioned construction. Strong well angulated muscled rear. Moved out well and pleased to award him Res CC.

3 Breeze’s Ch Linum Cranberry Crush At Salena (Imp Fin). Well presented with an abundance of coat. Pleasing to go over. Good head and dark eye. Nice length of neck leading into correct shoulders. He should fill out more with age. Not as long as some but he is balanced. Sadly movement was not his forte today much to the frustration of his handler.

Special Beginners Dog or Bitch (1)(0)

1 Evans’ Celticbridge Man of War. Shown by a different handler for this class, presumably to be eligible for the class.

PB (2)(0)

These two baby girls were both a credit to their handlers. They both behaved and moved with such confidence. Two slightly different types but both with much to offer. Hopefully they will fulfil their potential and I will watch their futures with interest.

1 Large’s Parrima-arih Invaluable Fascination (Imp Rus) NAF. 6 months and 6 days. Cream with good dark pigment. A balanced picture to look at. Feminine head, good expression and correct ear set. Tight well angulated front, Good rib to loin. Well made rear. Moved like a pro and her topline was spot on at all times. Best Puppy.

2 Baker’s Annabell From Waringham Castle To Silverbriar (Imp). 8 months. Standing she tended to be a little bum high, but she is still growing. She has good length and proportions. Not quite as tight in front as winner but well made rear. She moved out well.

JB (1)(0)

1 Herbert’s Finnsky Yves. 14 months. Black bitch who certainly fills the eye. She is low to ground and so well balanced. Feminine head, cheeky expression and excellent ear set. Nice lay of shoulder and good rib to loin leading to sound quarters. Moved out well and shows much promised.

PGB (3)(0)

1 Duncan’s Verumamicus Ambrosia Of Kyloran. A true cream with good pigmentation. Feminine head and expression. Pleasing shoulders and body length. Well presented, moved and handled well.

2 Dunlop’s Kometa Rossi Cinderella (Imp Deu). She has a good head, eye and bite. Would prefer a better ear set . Carrying more weight than I like but she held her topline. Tended to roll a little on the move.

3 Barraclough’s Pocahontas To Wemoway (Imp). Sadly she let her owner down and was not happy at all on the table making her difficult to assess. However, she was more than happy to move. Floor standing she presented a balanced level outline.

LB (2)(1)

1 Campbell’s Buckwheater’s Pictured Perfect. Well named as she certainly fills the eye on the stand. Dark silver, very feminine. Good head and expression. Nice length of neck leading into a well made front. Long level back with good proportions leading into well angulated rear. Well presented and moved out soundly. Res CC.

OB (5)(2)

1 Curtis’ Verumamicus Aurora Of Brakemill JW. Elegant cream bitch who certainly catches the eye. Strong but feminine head, good pigmentation, coat is clearing well. Good depth of chest, tight front. Correct rib to loin ratio and well made powerful rear. Shown in excellent jacket and very mature for age. Certainly moves with effortless drive. CC and BOB. Pleased to see her shortlisted in the group.

2 Heath’s Perryland Hello Again. What can I say just unfortunate to be up against the winner. She is a very nice bitch presented in excellent order. Feminine head and gentle dark eyes. Correctly made with good proportions. Held her topline both standing and moving. Handled in total accord with her handler.

3 Woodhead’s Ir Ch Knowlespring Candy Cane. Last time I judged this bitch I felt she had the potential to go all the way. 2 years later yes she still has the
3 Ls, however her coat was not in the best of condition but she moved out well.
