Skye Terriers

What a wonderful entry of Skyes, I was very honoured & delighted with the quality & type. We have managed over the years to improve the type & size with all the three L’s evident in most now.

Forelegs have become much straighter, with strength of bone & good tight feet. Well muscled & angled hindquarters, showed true movement but many lacked muscletone & are inclined to shuffle, keeping the rear pads well under them & not driving & some are moved so slowly. Being a good handler of a Skye is a must to show off the dog’s assets, a few have this mastered & it shows. Coat presentation & condition has much improved.

I was slightly perturbed that some felt I had judged dishonestly in giving just two kennels the tops awards but I had to make the decision on the day & it was on the day that these owners had for me the best four dogs. All the puppies had different qualities & could change places any time.

1 Robson’s Knowlespring Daredeveil Dan with Mitsui, a youngster not known to me from a very talented breeder, masculine boy with a lovely overall outline, in super cream coat of good texture with lovely dark fringes & mask, lovely strength of head, well developed firm ears & nice fringes coming, good dark eye colour, cheeky expression under his baby veil, super neck & lay of shoulder, firm topline, coat colour in centre of his back gave a slightly incorrect illusion, excellent depth of chest & brisket, well ribbed & ribs well back, good length of body with depth, well boned short straight legs & good sized feet, firm hindquarters with excellent drive. At times moved a little erratic, but at this age I forgave, but I had to penalise against his sister who was much steadier in the challenge. Puppy with a promising career;

2 Harrison’s Paplewick Knockando for Trenson, super masculine boy with a good outline who I thought would be my winner. Good strength of head, veiling coming, lovely kind dark expressive eyes, strong jaw, ears of good shape, could be held better & fringes could be darker but coming nicely. Strong neck, would like a little more length. Firm level topline, well bodied & ribs back with depth, lacking in depth of chest to 1. Enough length of body covered in a lovely textured cream & well conditioned coat of good length for his age, strong legs & feet, correct rear angles with muscletone coming, short hocks, moved out well with good driving action, well handled & shown;

3 Kings’ Little Lone Piper for Celticbridge.

1 Heep’s Azrakhan Mr Buttons, a dog who I have long admired & although on the bigger side of the Standard he has all the essentials of type & qualities of the breed, strong & powerful head, well veiled, strong erect ears, well fringed, crested neck of good length, well laid shoulders, correct upper arm, well developed front, depth of chest & brisket, great body with length & holding a firm topline, both on the stance & move, well ribbed back with short loin, strong hindquarters, well boned legs & feet, hocks fraction long, strong well padded feet, glamorous coat, very well presented & in lovely condition, best class mover & very sound with drive, nice tail carriage, well handled;

2 Lynch’s Kenmilltri Fraxinus, correct shape with a super outline to this black male, correct moderate head shape & well positioned ears, enough veiling & fringes, good topline & length of back. Lacking a little in depth of chest & body. Well presented & textured coat, short well boned legs. Just lacked any drive & was laboured in his movement;

3 Neilson’s Kenocto Black Magic at Auchenbathie.

1 Harrison’s Knowelspring Jail House Rock for Trenson, this was my disappointment of the day. Lovely to go over & certainly looks good from inside the ring, judged him as a pup & pleased to see he never grew on, lovely head, correct eye colour. Ears would not settle & carriage appeared low, spoiling his expression & was certainly playing his handler up. Fraction short of veiling, but with just enough ear fringes. Crested long neck which he would not use. Well laid back shoulders, good length of back with firm topline over a deep well ribbed back, body with good depth of chest & brisket, firm well muscled body. Tail carriage could have been better. Well angulated front & well developed quarters, nice short well boned legs, well presented cream jacket of good length & texture. I have seen this dog move better, but he is a very true mover & sound;

2 Mason & Hawkes’ Maridale Blueys Beach, I have judged this dog several times & he is very honest with good type & nice to go over, but each time I hope his coat will have developed. Super head & eye shape with dark alert expression, well coated head & ears, excellent length of neck & firm level back with good length, not as much as 1, but more than3. Lovely depth of chest, well angulated front & hindquarters, super muscletone, well boned, short strong legs, close into body & good feet, well textured coat. Would love to see this dog moved at a faster pace, because he is sound with true movement & a nice tail carriage;

3 Parker’s Glorfindel Basil Brush.

Lovely class.

1 Breeze’s Ch Salena Black Shadow, headed a lovely class of quality males, all changing places from time to time. He stands out for quality & type & is shown & handled to full advantage, breed head well veiled, super alert dark eyes & erect ears, super fringes, very long, low & level with strong, long crested neck into a straight level topline & nice set on of tail, well carried, deep developed body with depth of chest & ribs well back with short loin, dark grey coat with correct texture & presentation is excellent, well angulated front quarters, well muscled hind legs with good turn of stifle, short hocks & short strong well boned legs & correct feet, won the class on his effortless striding movement, which is both sound & with drive. Although very well handled & controlled, no one can predict & make a dog show if they do not want & after winning the CC he decided enough was enough & the Skye determination took hold & he almost refused to show himself off & this continued into the challenge. CC;

2 Barraclough’s Ch Skyeotts Midnight Majesty at Wemaway, 5 years, lovely length & all covered in a wonderful black jacket of super length, texture & so well presented, stunning head & for me to say this about a drop it has to be good, lovely strength, ears so well placed & carried with good furnishings to make that correct drop look, very dark expressive eyes, head carried well on strong neck, well laid back shoulders, firm topline. Both on the stance & move he slightly dripped & rooted his tail at the set on which was his downfall. Great body substance & well ribbed back, short loin, super deep front, well angulated, muscled & turned stifles, short well boned legs & padded feet, on top form & moved well with drive. RCC;

3 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Sunday Best.

What a super class.

1 Proud’s Knowlespring Dream Walk to Dolphaz, & what a dream this baby is, headed a class of delightful puppies, the best & most stunning head of good type, sweet dark appealing eyes, correct set & carriage of ears with super fringes, crested long neck into well laid back shoulders, lovely angulations, straight well boned legs & nice feet, depth of chest & brisket, good substance to body & short loin, firm hindquarters & short hocks, super grey coat of correct texture for this age, lovely ring presence & stance, best mover with great stride & powerful hind action. BP;

2 Marshall’s Glorfindel Lucretia, a lovely outline on the stance, feminine head, not the strength of 1. Super eye colour, ears carried a little too erect. Well fringed, lovely length of neck into firm & level topline, to well set & carried tail, good body with substance. Lacking in depth of chest & a little straight in upper arm. Ribs well back, short in loin, beautifully presented gleaming black coat, nice height, good length, well boned legs, forelegs could be straighter. Short hocks. On the move uses her front well, but lacks drive & appears to shuffle her hocks under herself. Well handled;

3 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Dream Cream.

JB (2,1)

1 Olding & Munroe’s Paplewick Glenlossie, 11 months youngster, well presented in a nicely conditioned grey jacket, good length for her age, nice head shape, just needing to strengthen. Correct eye colour, nice earset & use, long neck, good shoulders, topline inclined to roach on stance & move. Good depth of chest, well angulated, forelegs lacking bone & a fraction close. Enough body of good length, strong hindquarters, short hocks. Just a little erratic at first, but once settled moved out well.

PGB (5,1)

1 McLeod’s Esgia’s Sula The Late Edition, what a find, such a lovely bitch to go over, has the three L’s, super strength of skull, balanced head with strong jaw, correct earset, best ear fringes, neck with good length & crest into a firm level topline, well muscled body with depth & correct ribs well back, strong angles with nice short legs, hock & well padded feet, beautifully presented black textured jacket of correct length, moved out well. Just spoilt the outline by high carriage of tail, felt her handler was trying too hard & she over compensated on the move, making Sula skip within, in her driving movement. Must be one for the top honours;

2 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Hot Property, stylish bitch from this talented kennel, looks very impressive on the stance, feminine bitch with nice head shape. Lacking a little veiling & ear fringes, would prefer a stronger foreface. Lovely neck, good topline, not quite the length of 1. Correct angles, well bodied & ribs far back, super presentation of her grey jacket with good texture, moved out well from short, well boned legs & feet;

3 Green’s Salena Secret Charm at Verony

.LB (6,1)

1 Samuels’ Skyelander Midnight Dream, very feminine, although a biggish bitch she is full of quality & type. Well presented & textured grey coat, strong head, well developed, good eye colour & earset, good reach of neck, excellent topline to tail well carried, lovely depth of chest & body, nice short loin, behind ribs set back, super angles, nice legs & feet, really moved out with drive, best class mover & sound;

2 White’s Knowlespring You’re Nicked by Gumshoe, very stylish cream bitch with lovely coat in nice condition with a stunning outline, complimenting the long low & level, nice head shape of strength. I forgave the lack of veiling, but when this comes she will be complete. Super strength of neck, well laid shoulders, excellent topline to tail, nice shoulder angles & front legs, strong hindquarters, well muscled & nice hocks. Has very good movement & is sound with drive but would like to see her handler put more attention to how she walks & the pace;

3 Robson’s Lynaire Shes No Lady with Mitsui.

OB(5,2)

1 Barraclough’s Su Ch Skyeotts Amnesix High Sky Miracle at Wemoway, this was for me an outstanding example of the breed, she has such a well developed head with strength & the most delightful expression under her veiling, correct drop setting with good fringes, fantastic outline, being long, low with super firm topline & level, wonderful crested neck, holding her head well, correct shoulders & front angles with good depth of chest, well boned front legs & strong padded feet, great body & rib, super well presented coat of good texture & length, powerful rearquarters with good croup, tailset & hocks, lovely to see this bitch handled so well, both on stance & on the move, her movement was undoubtedly the best of the day & she never stopped showing, having great drive from the rear & good use of shoulders at the front, super sound, I followed her into the group where she continued to show, not letting me down or putting a foot wrong. CC, her third, & BOB;

2 Breeze’s Salena She’s The One, she certainly is a most stunning example of the breed with a lovely outline & super character, great head, well coated & developed, correct eye colour & earset, well fringed, strong neck & shoulders, great depth of forechest with nice short front legs & strong feet, great body depth with both substance & firmness, well muscled & angled hindquarters, short neat hocks, this development giving free, sound driving movement, lovely to look at both on the stance & the move, well handled & in beautiful coat presentation. RCC;

3 Bryden’s Ch Acheo Bidey In.
