Skye Terriers without Tickets

I was pleased to be awarded the honour of judging Skye Terriers at this show, especially as this will be the last time it will be held at Weatherby `Racecourse for the foreseeable future. I do hope there is a change of mind, and it returns as its such a fabulous venue. I must congratulate the Committee of Driffield Show for running an excellent double show with very few hiccups. Thier hospitality was 2nd to none.
I was slightly disappointed with the low entry but given the number of other fixtures happening on the same day it did make sense. There are only so many Skye Terriers to go around. The Vulnerable Breeds Show and the Cheshire Game Fair where there has always been a large Skye Terrier presence were on the same weekend.
That saying the Skyes that entered were of a pleasing standard and presented in excellent condition. So glad to see the long low and level of the breed standard returning.
My Best of Breed was Karen Boothmans Caranath Peacock who exuded character and charm, so much to like from her profuse coat to her long low level driving movement around the ring.

1st TAYLOR, Mrs Susan Verumamicus Drusus
A 20-month-old cream dog with a clearing coat. A nice masculine head with a strong jaw excellent bite deep dark eye and well-set ears which are well fringed and he used them well. Nice length of neck into good shoulder. Strong fore limbs with good heart room. Would have liked a little more depth of rib. Rib to loin ratio good. Strong rear legs with good turn of stifle and plenty of drive on the move. Presented in excellent condition with correct coat type. Un lucky to come up against the Puppy Bitch today, Best Dog

1st BOOTHMAN, Mrs Karen Caranath Peacock
An 11-month-old Cream Puppy presented in lovely condition with profuse coat of the correct type. Clearing nicely showing strong cream growth coming in. Feminine head with nice deep dark eye, strong jaw but retaining her femininity. Excellent bite. Ears well fringed for a youngster and correctly set. Used her ears to full advantage. Good length of neck into a strong front. Lots of heart room. Strong front legs. Lovely angulation in the shoulder, well laid back and continuing into a long level back. Rib of good depth and Rib to loin ratio correct. Hind legs well angulated with good strength and lots of drive. Good tail set which was carried correctly. The overall picture was of balance and elegance. So true to breed standard. This is a bitch with a lot of potential and showed a superb temperament. Certainly one to watch. 1st TAYLOR, Mrs Susan Rhoderns Boreray
An 18-month-old cream drop eared bitch. Super feminine head with nice dome to her forehead, ears set on well and leathers laying nicely against her cheeks. Nice strong jaw with a correct bite. Deep dark eye. Her neck is long leading into well angulated shoulders and strong fore limbs. Good heart room. Long enough depth of rib. Good rib to loin ratio. Nice and level in the back with strong quarters which she uses well. Tail set is correct and held nicely on the move. The downside for her today was her coat which still needs to lengthen and strengthen. Shown in excellent condition.
