SKYE DRIFFIELD 16 Judge: Mr Tony Burscough BEST OF BREED : 4261 CURTIS Mrs J Ch Brakemill Briar Rose SKYE JUDGE DRIFFILED 16 Skye Terriers I would like to thank the officers & committee of Driffield for the invitation to judge at this well organised & run show. I am grateful to my two stewards for their assistance & to the exhibitors for their entries & sporting acceptance of my decisions. Although a numerically small entry I felt it was a good quality entry presenting some difficult decisions. Pleased to see my BOB being placed G3 & look forward to seeing the two puppies as they develop. PD (1) 1 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Drummer Boy, 9 month old cream boy who should have a good future when he settles & becomes more co-operative with his handler. Liked his well balanced head with good width of skull, strong muzzle, correct bite. Ears are a bit 10 to 2 at the moment but correct shape & nicely feathered for age. Good reach of neck, shoulders well placed, good length of rib & depth of chest. He has a good body length & it is covered in a good quality cream coat with a harsh texture. Just needs to develop more confidence & experience in the show ring. Moved soundly. BP. OD (3,1a) 1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Barnum, 4 year old cream who has quite an eyecatching profile & outline. Liked his head for width of skull & strength of muzzle, correctly balanced, correct bite, large teeth, good pigmentation. Ears are a good size, well fringed but to be critical could be set higher. Good length of neck, well placed & angulated shoulders, strong bone, no looseness at elbow. Good depth of chest, ribs OK, strong loin, well bodied & muscled & holding a firm topline. Strong well angulated hindquarters. Topped of with a coat of excellent quality. Moved with a free & effortless gait with correct tail carriage. A worthy champion. Well handled & presented. BD; 2 Large’s Juger Edelweiss Micky Mouse is Madaza, 2 year old dark cream drop ear. Liked his make & shape on the stand. Nicely proportioned head, well placed ears of good size & lying flat to the head. Strongly made he has enough neck, good shoulder placement, good depth of chest, would prefer slightly longer rib but strong loin & holding a firm topline. Nicely angulated hindquarters. Presented well with his coat in lovely condition. Moved well. Preferred the length of neck & front of the 1 but should have a promising future. RBD. PB (2,1) 1 Barrass’ Gallondean Foreign Spirit, delightful 6 month old cream who was enjoying her day out. Has a super head & ear set giving a mischievous look. Strong head which is well balanced, correct bite & strong teeth, good pigmentation, ears well fringed for age. Good length of neck & well placed shoulders. Front to tighten but shows promise. Depth of chest correct for age, good length of rib & strong hindquarters. Well bodied & muscled for age. Not very co-operative with her handler on the move but her movement was sound. In challenge for BP giving away a lot in maturity & just preferred the body length & proportions of the dog at this stage. OB (3) 1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Briar Rose, litter sister to the BD & the owner must be immensely proud of these two. A very feminine dark slate who has the size, shape & proportions – the 3 L’s – that I am looking for. Super head, strong yet feminine, good balance skull to muzzle & ears that are well set on & with lovely fringing. Good length of neck, good shoulder placement & depth of chest, shoulders well moulded & straight forelegs. Good length of rib, short, strong loin & well angulated hindquarters. She is at her best on the move where she makes use of her correct conformation to show a free, active & effortless movement with correct tail carriage. Pleased to award her BB, BOB & see her placed G3; 2 Barrass’ Ch Lavaux Spirit Of The Isle of Gallondean, close decision between 2 & 3. Just preferred the shape & proportions of this 5 year old black bitch of nice type. Good head properties, ears well placed with good fringing, very feminine. Good length of neck, nice shoulder placement & angulation. Liked her depth of chest & length of rib. Holding a straight topline but could do with losing a few pounds to improve her overall condition. Moved well but not the freedom & effortlessness of 1. RBB; 3 Woodhead’s Ch/Ir Ch Knowlespring Mistletoe. TONY BURSCOUGH
