Skye CRUFTS 15 Judge(s): MS K SAINIO [FINLAND] SKY JUDGE CRUFTS 15 Skye Terriers First & foremost I want to thank the show committee for inviting me to judge at Crufts. As for any judge, especially from aboard, this is one of the opportunities of the lifetime. Secondly, I want to thank all my fellow Skye enthusiast who evaluated me so highly that they entered their dogs under me, & the good sports everyone showed. Nevertheless, there are some concerns ahead of us. Construction wise, there were several points that need improvement, but unfortunately also type wise. The presentation was mostly very good & the temperaments of all the exhibits were excellent. In this point we have gone far as I can still remember times, when Skyes were not easy to handle. This has totally changed & credit to us all for that! Also coat quality was excellent. All had correct bites. But especially fronts need to be watched. Pretty presentation & abundant coat can hide secrets. My ultimate BOB winner, a well known winner, is a son of my best junior at the breed club specialty back in 2006. My BOS, a newcomer, is an off spring of the bitch who was one of my all time favourites. Thus, in the end of the day, it is the type that matters. VD (6,1a) 1 Drochon’s Fr/Int/Lux/Sp/Por/Bel Ch Cock A Doodle Doo Des Vallees Engissoises, magnificent veteran in tip top condition. Grand male head, beautiful breed type all over. Good body, excellent coat quality. Simply my kind of a Skye Terrier. Was showing & moving like a dream. Unfortunately his front was a disappointment, but it did not disturb his movement too much, therefore I still offered him the RCC; 2 Harrison’s Ir Ch Knowlespring Jail House Roc for Trenson, long cream dog in great condition. Good male head. Well constructed & moved well. He only lacked the sparkle of the winner, but he is still a good dog; 3 Samuel’s Ch Skyelander Wee Man of Storr, a drop with correct ears & a beautiful head. Long & low. Moved well. Was just unlucky to meet the other two. PD (2) 1 Harrison’s Glorfindel Shadow Dancer for Trenson, good grey male puppy with promise, the type I like. Good proportions, well constructed. Still needs to settle in topline, but I am sure this will improve with maturity. Grand male head, good texture of coat. Moved well; 2 Large’s Bunnybois Indulgence is Madaza, typy black puppy with style, promising. Well constructed. Head could have stronger muzzle & more length. Moved well. Another one who should have a bright future. JD (2) 1 Toft Bergström’s Skyewalker’s One Foot Wrong, stylish cream male with a good male head & correct drop ears nicely set. Good proportions & size. His elbows need to tighten. Absolutely straight topline both when standing & moving. Despite of his name, didn’t put a foot wrong. Nice coat on its way; 2 Grainger’s Perrylands Monro, good head & bite, nice coat on its way. His elbows need to be tighter & thus his front could be straighter. I hope this will improve with maturity. Nevertheless moved well. A shade shorter than the winner. PGD (4) 1 McLeod’s Esgia Murray’s Olympic Gold, beautiful black dog, was the best mover in the class. Good male head but a bit floppy ears which were nevertheless well set. Well constructed all over; 2 Landolt’s Buckweather’s Bold And Brass, cream with beautiful black points. Higher in leg, but long enough. Good male head, good bite. Nice outline, moved with good balance, but is a bit narrow behind. Good coat & texture; 3 Conway’s Talyot Niall at Suzitzu, 2 year old grey dog with good proportions. Good male head, good bite. Good side gait, again a bit narrow behind. Coat of good texture, but bold in hind legs which made him look unbalanced. Pity. LD (5,1) 1 Marshall’s Emoticon Kiaora Glorfindel, cream with good proportions & overall balance. For me could have a longer male head. The best mover in the class. Coat of good texture & in immaculate condition; 2 Toft Bergstrom’s Gold Monarch Sigurd, long & low, dark, well balanced male in great condition. He has a good head, but his ears are floppy & soft. Excellent coat & texture. Moved steadily & with good drive; 3 Garland-Collins’ Bhuidh Here Be Dragons, not the smallest of dogs but handsome, no doubt. Good male head, excellent coat. His topline was not level at all times, especially on move, but still a nice dog. OD (9,1) 1 Breeze’s Ch Salena The Special One, after winning so much in so many shows, there is not really very much more I could add to this dog’s record. Nevertheless I am taking this opportunity to write something about him. He has the essentials of the breed: long, low, level. He has a good male head which is important to me, good earset. He is absolutely sound & well constructed. He moved fluently & carried himself well. I just could not deny him. He was my CC winner & BOB. Congratulations to his breeder & owner; 2 Ryzhikova’s Blr/Rus/Ukr/Pol Ch Feorlig Frankly My Dear, beautiful jet black male with good head. He lacked ear fringes which for me will make the final touch to the true expression of the breed. Nevertheless a well constructed dog who moved well; 3 Smith’s Lam-Baias Mad Max at Marrcrieff, another beautiful & well balanced male. Good male head, good body, level & long. Moved well. He fell in front construction. GCD (1) 1 Ch S Wee Man of S. VB (4,1) 1 Macqueen’s Ch Azrakhan Capercaillie, beautiful breed type, long & low. She has a beautiful outline & good body. Moved with dignity matching her years. Beautiful coat & condition. Could have a better front construction but type wise she is excellent; 2 Barraclough’s Ch/Sw Ch Skyeotts Amnesix High Skye Miracle at Wemoway, a bit higher in leg, but well constructed black bitch. Good female head, well placed true drop ears. She moved steadily coming & going. Plenty of coat that was a bit wavy & could have been better presented; 3 Shuttleworth’s Perrylands Stroller, 10 years old & she already starts to show her age. Nevertheless has a beautiful outline with good body. Moved steadily & was in good condition. PB (3) 1 Marshall’s Glorfindel Shadow Witch, lovely black bitch puppy of good size & proportions. Lovely outline when standing. Moving well both coming & going. Coat growing nicely. She could do with tighter front, but this may improve with age. BPB; 2 Miller’s Feorlig Up Up And Away, excellent size & outline when standing. Unfortunately her front construction was not good, she should be tighter & straighter. She could do with more head & strength. Good hind movement & side gait, her front construction was obvious also on move. Good coat coming; 3 Whincup-Grindey’s Bunnybois Inspiration, bitch with a beautiful head & outline. Unfortunately short ribcage & thus long in loin. Moved OK coming & going. JB (5) 1 Kanasova’s Gold Monarh Tramontana Jew, bitch with a first class head & beautiful outline. Could have a better front, a bit out of elbow. Nevertheless moved with style & purpose, carried herself beautifully. Nice coat coming. First class presentation. She should have a bright future & with maturity will win a lot; 2 Marshall’s Skyewalker’s Ozone Baby at Glorfindel, another pretty bitch, low to ground. Good head & construction. Just did not move today as well as the winner. Good coat & presentation; 3 Shuttleworth’s Perrylands Cassidy at Whicheeta, a nice bitch, really small ears disturbed the expression for me. Moved well coming & going. PGB (5) 1 Toft Bergstrom’s Skyewalker’s No More Tears, beautiful breed type with most gorgeous head, jet black ears & beautiful expression. Beautiful coat & presentation. Excellent front assembly. She did not move that well in her class at times, but she put her act together in the challenge. I just fell for her overall breed type & balance. CC; 2 Neilson’s Auchenbathie Cream Delight, a taller bitch but well constructed. The best front & she moved well. Nice coat of good texture. She could do with less weight to make her more elegant; 3 Smith’s Marrcrieff Glen Glamis, another rather tall bitch & rather narrow all through. Moved with style. Nice coat & presentation. LB (6,1) 1 White’s Gumshoe Silent Witness, lovely jet black bitch with beautiful breed type. Well constructed, good body. Beautiful coat in good form. Unfortunately she was rather unwilling to move but when she did, I could see that she moved well. Was just not happy today. Pity; 2 Miller & Ryan’s Feorlig Romantica, another well constructed bitch with a lovely outline. Beautiful coat & texture. She did not cooperate with her handler on move, especially her front movement was difficult to assess. Another day & with more confidence this bitch could go far. I loved her breed type; 3 Toft Bergstrom’s Skyewalker’s No Excuse, another pretty bitch when standing. Cream with good coat & texture. Well constructed, but today failed in hind movement. OB (7) 1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Briar Rose, well bodied, solid bitch who maybe is not so glamorous but she has all the essentials. Good head, long & low enough. Good coat of good texture, well presented. The best mover in the class. RCC; 2 Drochon’s Fr/Int/Swi/Sp/Bel/Lux Ch Glam’n Glitz Des Vallees Engissoises, beautiful breed type, long & low, very feminine. Lovely outline, good coat texture, but not in the best outfit today. Moved well coming & going; 3 Toft Bergstrom’s Skyewalker’s My Italian Dream, a cream bitch who is a shade shorter than the two ahead of her. For me, she could do with more substance all over. Nevertheless beautiful outline & feminine, well presented. Could have a stronger hind movement. KIRSI SAINIO |
