SKYE JUDGE CRUFTS 13

Skye Terriers

It was an honour to judge this specialist breed at Crufts, especially to see the breed represented in Sunday evening’s BIS. Thanks to all exhibitors for allowing me the privilege to judge your Skye’s.

VD (4)

1 Woodhead’s Ch Knowlespring Sunday Best, dark grey, good strong head, dark eye, well placed feathered ears, broad shoulders held close to the body. Good depth of chest with short loin. Well balanced throughout. Correct coat texture, excelled on the move;

2 Barraclough’s Ch Skeotts Midnight Majesty, black drop eared, super head with good neck, ears large & straight held close to the head. Long body to well developed hindquarters, moved soundly;

3 Hawkes &Mason’s Maridales Blueys Beach, nicely made black dog, correct head, well placed shoulders, well presented but struggled on the move.

PD (1)

1 Curtis’ Brakehill Barnum, what a cracker, 12 months cream dog with all the credentials, outstanding head, good bite, black ears well placed, good length of neck to correct shoulder placement. Deep chest, long level body to short loin. Well balanced picture, was not disappointed when on the move propelled by powerful hindquarters & with correct tail carriage. Will watch his progress with interest. RCC.

JD (1)

1 Rygges’ Latroonis Claudius, quality 14 month youngster with a bright future. Well balanced from head to tail. Outstanding head, with correct placed black points, correct regular scissor bite. Long low in body, covered the ground with ease using hindquarters.

PGD (3)

1 Smith’s Lam-Bais Mad Max at Marrcrieff, good balanced cream with black points, super head with slight stop to strong muzzle, dark eyes, black nose. Good length of neck, broad shoulders, deep chest, strong rearquarters & well developed & muscular. Correct coat pattern. Moved easily;

2 Parkers’ Glofindel Deacon Blue, black dog, smaller type but still a balanced picture. Good head with strong jaws, nice length of neck to good forequarters. Good oval ribcage, short loin. Well developed hindquarters, not quite so level on the move together with raised tail;

3 King’s Celticbridge Man Of Steel, drop eared grey with correct placed ears, dark eyes. Another smaller type but in proportion. Good crest of neck to shoulders close to body. Correct coat pattern. Movement & tail carriage let him down.

LD (4)

1 Ankchorn’s Feorlig True Destiny of Pensford, slighter taller than some but still provides a balanced appearance. Quality head with feathered black points, strong muzzle, dark eye with black nose. Good length of neck to correct front assembly. Level topline, deep chest, short loin, strong rearquarters which enabled sound movement with level topline. Well presented;

2 White’s Talyot Menelaus at Gumshoe, lovely black in good coat, still a youngster at 2 years. Good head with well placed ears, correct mouth, well developed front forequarters, long body not as level as some. Short loin. Raised tail carriage on the move disappoints;

3 Garland-Collins’ Bhuidh Here Be Dragons, g/s in good coat & well presented. Another correct head, most impressed today with quality of heads. Well pricked black ears, correct shaped neck to good front. Good ribcage, good length of body. Again movement let this exhibit down.

OD (8)

1 Breeze’s Ch Salena The Special One, what a performance not only in the breed class but in the Group & BIS ring. This dog is precisely what the Standard states. His general appearance is long, low with coat of good length & moves with an effortless gait. This is all because he is of first class construction both fore & aft. Standing immediately catches the eye & when examined does not disappoint. A most elegant & dignified exhibit & most effortless on the move. CC & BOB, went on to win the Terrier Group;

2 Miller’s Feorlig Arfur Sixpence, quality exhibit, black of finer type but still meets the Standard. Good in head with dark eyes & black nose. Slightly crested neck to good front assembly, level topline, short loin to well developed hindquarters. In good coat & superbly presented;

3 Rygge’s No Ch Blond Dreamdell’antica Caledonia, very light grey dog, again in proportion throughout, good head with strong jaws & correct bite. Correct neck to shoulder placement, good length of body, short loin, well developed hindquarters, moved with ease.

GCD (1)

1 T Menelaus at G.

VB (3)

1 Samuel’s Glorinfindel Risk Of Reprisal, lovely cream veteran with black points, again a good head with ear placement. Long crested neck to broad shoulders close to body, good ribcage, strong hindquarters & muscular, therefore movement was good. Well presented;

2 King’s Celticbridge Stormy Waters, nice balanced picture standing but was not happy on the move. Well defined head with ear placement & feathering. Well developed in body, in good well presented coat.
