SKYE CRUFTS 11 Skye Terrier Judge(s): MR G CORISH Skye Terriers Thank you to everyone who had entered & hope you enjoyed your day, I certainly did. It has been some years since I last judged the breed & so every dog was new to me. Temperament has recently been mentioned & I can honestly say every Skye behaved impeccably. Some decisions could have been different had the handling been better. PD (1) 1 Marshall’s Glorfindel Black Mage, black of nice size, super neck & shoulder, excellent topline, well ribbed, super front & elbows tight in, super head & expression, good length. Perhaps could have been more settled but it was quite noisy in the hall. Full of quality. BP. JD (1) A. PGD (6) 1 Miller’s Feorlig Arfur Sixpence, black, super outline, long neck, long & low in balance, super front, excellent straight coat, sound both ways, well handled to get the very best out of him; 2 Richardson’s Talyot Learchus, close up to 1 & a lot of the same could be had. Loved his head & ears, long & masculine, sound. Seemed to lack a bit of exuberance but I did like him; 3 King’s Little Lone Piper for Celticbridge, black, nice dog to go over, long neck, excellent front, sound, good length of head, good expression. Just lacked the fringing of 1 & 2 but well worthy of his place. LD (6) Very difficult class. 1 Heeps’ Azrakhan Mr Buttons, very well balanced, sound & holds topline well on the move, long masculine head. Could have used his ears more. Super head coat, long & straight; 2 Ankcorn’s Feorlig True Destiny of Pensford, cream, lovely headed dog & black fringes, OK for size. Not the shoulder of 1 & this showed up on the move. Good length & excellent hindquarters; 3 Harrison’s Papplewick Knockando for Trenson, cream, the most lovely head & ears, good reach of neck & good length. Fails in topline both standing & moving. In full coat & superbly presented. OD (10,1) What a glorious class & really a judge’s nightmare with so many quality Skyes. 1 Breeze’s Ch Salena Black Shadow, such a nice dog & so well balanced, strong yet has elegance, moves out with correct reach & drive, well balanced head, strong & masculine. To be picky would like more fringing but you can’t have everything. CC & BOB; 2 Granlund & Dahlbom’s Cib Olivia Spirit Of American Idol, so close up for balance & type, loved his head & expression, good front, long & low. To be critical would like a bit more strength in body. Took a while to settle to move but he got his act together. RCC; 3 Woodhead’s Ch Knowlespring Sunday Best, slightly different in type to 1 & 2 but that’s not a criticism. Lovley to go over, good neck & shoulder, excellent top, long straight hard coat. Took a while to get going but second time round he went well. GCD (1) 1 Curtis’ Gumshoe Bugsy Malone of Brakemill, his previous class was the tough Open one & some nice dogs went out cardless. Nice for size, good length & low yet moves out well, in super straight coat. VB (4) 1 Bailey & Hansel’s Ch Silisia Firenze; 2 Barrass’ Ch Gallondean Charlies Angel; 3 Macqueen’s Ch Acheo Achiltibuie. Three grey bitches & each a credit to their owners. They were all in full coat, all of a good type & proved that Skyes really are long lasters. Thank you for bringing them for me. PB (1) 1 King’s Glorfindel Spring Surprise for Celticbridge, very much a baby but took the day in her own way & really enjoyed herself. Very feminine, long & strong head, well placed ears, good reach of neck, excellent topline. JB (1) 1 G Spring Surprise for C. PGB (6,1) Rather a disappointing class overall. 1 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Cruisader, silver & still young, needs a bit more coat but that will come. Moves out well which is where she won the class, nice head & ears, good fringing; 2 Proud’s Knowlespring Dream Walk to Dolphaz, close up to 1, similar in type, good reach of neck, excellent topline, good hindquarters, coat of good texture, well handled & presented; 3 Woodhead’s Knowlespring Dream Cream, my biggest disappointment in this class. Lovely cream bitch who just refused to cooperate on the move. Lovely to go over but at that teenage when she wants to be difficult. LB (4) 1 Marshall’s Glorfindel Lucretia, black who I felt stood out in this class, lovely outline, long, low & level at all times, sound, very good front, lovely head & eye giving that true Skye look, well placed ears, presentation was superb. RCC; 2 Samuel’s Skyelander Midnight Dream, out of a heavier mould to 1. Very long & very level, sound both ways, good reach of neck, very good front, in sparkling coat & condition; 3 White’s Salena Special Effect at Gumshoe, at that in between stage of 20 plus months so needs to body up & needs a bit more finish to her coat. Head well balanced, good front, enough strength but yet feminine. OB (7,1) 1 Macqueen’s Ch Azrakhan Capercaillie, lovely bitch who I have seen ringside but never judged her, I love her shape & outline. To start with was difficult moving but then got into her stride. A neck flowing into super shoulder & excellent topline, coat gleaming & in super body condition. CC, her third Crufts one I believe; 2 Utter’s Int Ch Finnsky Jewel, slightly taller than 1 & not in as good coat. Long neck, good topline. Not quite as good in shoulder as 1. Head long & with strength, moves OK; 3 Barraclough’s Ch/Su Ch Skyeotts Amnesix High Sky Miracle, it is always nice to see a drop ear & also a good one which this bitch is. Long low & level & a credit to her owner. Has the most lovely head & expression. GCB (2) 1 S Midnight Dream; 2 S Special Effect at G. |
