SKYE JUDGE BORDER UNION 21

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for the invitation to judge Skye Terriers for the first time with CC’s. Postponed from 2020 and moved from June to October, Border Union did a great job to get the show on. Thanks to the Society for their hospitality and to the “weather Gods” for a dry day. I would wish to thank my two efficient stewards for their help and the exhibitors for their entries and gracious acceptance of my placings. I was happy with the overall quality of the exhibits and temperaments were fine, a couple were a bit too exuberant and made their handlers work hard for their placings. Unfortunately the Junior dog wouldn’t co-operate with his handler on the table and was withdrawn, the veteran dog after being examined went lame having caught a front leg in a hole when setting off to move and was also withdrawn.

GD (1)

1 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Total Eclipse. 3 yr old dark silver shown in good coat and condition. Nice outline on the stand, not overly co-operative on the move. Strong head, good width of skull and muzzle, well pigmented, ears well set and fringed. Ok for neck, liked his depth and length of rib, front and rear angulation balanced, would prefer a lower tailset. Once his handler got control of him showed a free movement with good drive from the rear.

OD (4, 1)

1 McDonald-Cross, Stephenson & Marshall’s Flanagan Show Stopper Glorfindel (Imp SVN). Handsome, masculine 4 yr old light silver of correct size who I did judge as a Junior and liked him then. Giving his handler a hard time to get the best out of him and not overly co-operative on the move but showing enough of what he is capable of – a free and effortless gait. Liked the strength, length and balance, skull to muzzle, of his head. Correct bite, large teeth and good width of underjaw. Ear placement correct and they were well feathered. Has a good length of neck, shoulders correctly angulated and good depth of chest and length of rib. Liked his rear angulation, nicely moulded croup and well set tail which was carried well. In good coat and condition and held his topline well on the stand and on the move. CC & BOB.

2 Whincup’s Partisky Precious Moment. 2 yr old cream dog shown in excellent coat and condition. His handler had a number of challenges to get the best out of him and unfortunately his lack of co-operation affected the fluidity of his movement. Has a head that is balanced, has strength with a good ear set and fringing and correct bite and good pigmentation. Good length of neck, shoulders are well laid back and elbows closely fitting to body, Strong topline but felt 1 had the edge in relation to his ribbing and strength of loin. Hindquarters strong and well angulated and in good body condition. Unfortunate to meet fir today when performing at his best. Res CC.

3 Pringle’s Ch Esgia The Exciseman.

PB (2)

Two nice puppies who I’m sure could swop places as they progress.

1 O’Rourke’s Borcho Skoosh. 8 mth old cream. Confident puppy with a slight glint of mischief in her eye. Well handled and presented in good coat and condition. Feminine head which has good balance skull to muzzle, strong underjaw and correct bite. Ears well set and fringing coming on well. Neck of enough length, well placed shoulders, nice length and depth of rib, level topline and strong hindquarters. Moved out with confidence and showing a free action. Best Puppy.

2 Barrass’ Tarskavaig Speed Bonny Boat To Gallondean. 9 mth old dark silver bitch of good type, liked her size and length. She has all the right properties in head, neck, shoulders and rib. Could carry more body condition to advantage. Her topline was rising over the loin and she seemed restricted/tight on her left side at the rear – hopefully this is a temporary issue as she has a lot of promise.

JB (1)

1 Roberts’ Sunabil Tywysoges O Libanus (AI). Just turned 12 mths old, this dark silver bitch has excellent breed type – long, low and level. Her head is well proportioned, feminine, with good strength of underjaw and correct bite, well pigmented, good ear set and fringing. Liked her length of neck, her shoulders are well laid back, elbows fitting well against her rib which is long and deep, short loin. Rear angulation matches front, tail well set on. A bit unsettled at times on the move but she has a very correct smooth, straight front action and drive from the rear. Was pleased to award her Res CC and will follow her career with interest.

PGB (1)

1 Large’s Parrima-Arih Invaluable Fascination Is Madaza (Imp Rus). 2 yr old cream. She has good overall body proportions, enough length of back and a firm topline. Her head has a correct balance skull to muzzle which is strong yet feminine. Large well fringed ears, good length of neck, shoulder placement ok, would prefer a slightly longer rib. Not in her best coat at present but in good body condition. Moved smoothly, well handled.

LB (4)

1 Duncan’s Verumamicus Ambrosia Of Kyloran. Delightful 3 yr old cream bitch who takes the eye for her length and lovely clear coat colour. She has a head with strength and femininity, strong muzzle, correct bite and well set and fringed ears. Good length of neck with slight crest leading into well laid back shoulders. Liked her depth and length of rib, short loin and rear angulation which matches her front. Won this class on her conformation which translated into a fluid free movement with good forward reach and rear drive. Unfortunately in the challenge for BOB she last her topline on occasions and was pulling out to the side on the move. CC.

2 Pringle’s Esgia First And Fairest. Another attractive 3 yr old cream bitch. Shown in good coat and condition and handled to get the best out of her. Typical head with good ear set. Well put together and holds a strong topline both on the stand and on the move. Unlucky to meet first, whose length, front and rear angulation I preferred.

3 Roberts’ Glorfindel Effort At Sunabil.

OB

1 Parker’s Tweedsmuir Feebee Mine ShCM. 5 yr old cream bitch who was determined to test her handlers patience to the limit. Once settled she is a well made bitch, has good head properties, nice ear set but lacking in fringing. Nice length of neck, well placed shoulders which are well laid back, good length and depth of rib. Good body length and proportions. Once settled and moving she covered the ground with a smooth, easy stride. If she could co-operate with her handler then she could compete for top honours.

2 Barrass’ Gallondean Foreign Spirit ShCEX. Another 5 yr old cream but in contrast to first, she was perfectly behaved both on the stand and on the move. Lots to like about her. Good head, ear set and expression. Strong jaw and correct bite. Length of neck ok, shoulders well placed and laid back. Preferred the length of first which came from a longer rib and strength of loin. Didn’t move with quite the freedom of first.
