BORDER UNION 2015
SKYE TERRIERS

Sadly Corinne Garland-Collins had been taken ill only a couple of days before the show. Best wishes to her for a speedy recovery and a big thank you to the exhibitors for the sporting way they accepted myself as the replacement with such short notice. I’d particularly like to thank Jane Curtis who withdrew Ch Brakemill Briar Rose as I had previously awarded her a CC.

Judging another person’s entry is always interesting and on such occasions you may get your hands on dogs you wouldn’t have otherwise have had the opportunity.

On the whole the dogs were shown in good clean condition. A couple had dirty teeth and there was the odd softer ear or ear placement that could have been better. One thing I noticed today and at earlier shows, is exhibitors over-stretching their charges to make them look longer – usually what is achieved is an uncomfortable dog, unable to hold their top line as they are out of balance.

1 Large’s Juger Edelweiss Mickey Mouse Is Madaza. Drop Ear who is still waiting to decide what colour he will eventually end up. Excellent head and ear placement, good dark eye. Good construction and proportions. Moved out well. Best Puppy

These three are all ones I have enjoyed watching in the ring. Unfortunately two of them were not on their best behaviour today, making life difficult for their handlers. This was reflected in the placings and on another day they could change places.

1 Harrison’s Glorfindel Shadow Dancer For Trenson. Well handled youngster, very pleasing to go over and his coat is starting to ‘settle’. Sound mover who shows promise.
2 Large’s Buynnybois Indulgence is Madaza. His movement let him down today (as explained above). Would like a stronger head but good proportions on his body.
3 Thomson’s Glorfindel Shadow Boxer

JD (1)(0)

1 Thomson’s Glorfindel Shadow Boxer. A youngster I’ve admired since he made his debut unfortunately today he was not in the most co-operative of moods. He has much to offer, good balanced proportions, enhanced by his maturing jacket. Movement was certainly not his forte today.

LD (3)(0)

1 White’s Gumshoe Mr Moses. Shown in good condition and worked well with his handler. He was a pleasant surprise and had to be handled to be fully appreciated. Strong front and his rib to loin ratio were good.

2 Marshalls Emoticon Kiaora Glorfindel. Good head and expression. Lot of substance to him, to be picky would like a better front, but certainly not the worst today. His jacket finally seems to be settling. He is probably one of those dogs who comes into his own as he ages.

3 McLeod’s Esgia Murray’s Olympic Gold

OD (5)(2)

1 Curtis’ Ch Brakemill Barnum SHCM. As I have written before – he is a good cream who certainly stands out. Love his strong head and dark eyes. Solidly made body but would prefer more length of rib. Pleasing, well muscled rear and movement is very free and easy. He was unlucky today to be up against the winner of Veteran and so could only award him Res CC.
2 Smith’s Lam-Baias Mad Max At Marrcrieff SHCM. Cream dog in excellent coat. Overall well balanced but unfortunately today was not holding his top line.

3 Shuttleworth’s Whicheeta Celtic Keepsake SHCM

VD (2)(0)

1 Harrison’s IR Ch Knowlespring Jail House Roc for Trenson SHCM. A dog I have always liked and have previously awarded a Res CC to. Like many Skyes he has only improved with age. Shown in tip top condition and in total accord with his handler. Well proportioned, balanced dog with no exaggeration. I was pleased to award him CC & BOB.

2 Ankcorn’s Feorlig True Destiny of Pensford. I would like a stronger head but from there onwards he is a lovely made dog. A pleasure to go over and such a sound mover.

JB (1)(0)

1 Marshall’s Glorfindel Shadow Witch.. Delightful youngster who certainly catches the eye. Good type and size with nothing over done. Correct jacket. Movement was OK but she seemed very aware of her surroundings.

NB (2)(0)

1 Shuttleworth’s Perryland Cassidy. For me she was the more settle of the two in this class. Pleasing to go over, Very feminine head and expression. She moved out well and just needs to mature.

2 Marshall’s But Beautiful of Morningsky. Very pleasing to the eye. A little unsettled on the table and this was also reflected in her movement. Very feminine, nicely proportioned young lady who shows promise once she reaches full maturity.

LB (3)(0)

1 Marshall’s Skyewalker’s Ozone Baby at Glorfindel NAF TAF. This was my surprise of the day. On occasions I have seen her in the ring and thought her a little ‘lack lustre’ going through the motions but nothing special. Today she was in fine form. Solid on the table, feminine well proportioned and held her top line well. She moved out soundly and I had no hesitation in awarding her the CC.

2 Smith’s Marcrieff Glen Glamis. Pleasing to go over. Feminine with that hint of strength, Good proportions enhanced by her correct jacket. Moved out well. Res CC

3 McLeod’s Esgia Andi’s Wimbledon Dream

OB (3)(1)

1 Woodhead’s Ch/IR Ch Knowlespring Mistletoe. Feminine bitch. Balanced head with dark eye. Well proportioned body and moved with ease. Unfortunately not holding her top line today.

2 White’s Gumshoe Silent Witness. Not as feminine as winner but pleasing type who was in accord with her handler. Feminine head, good reach of neck and correct front. Level well proportioned body. Unlucky to meet winner today.

VB (1)(0)

1 Shuttleworth’s Perrylands Stroller Cum Whicheeta. Lovely girl who was certainly enjoying her day out. For me, carrying a little much too weight which fortunately did not affect her movement.
